Blindsighted Wanderer blog tour. Guest reviewer, Keelie Howard.

The Wall has long kept Elitland Valley safe from the demons on the other side. For centuries the villagers have avoided speaking of the Wall or the creatures it protects them from.

Upon their return from the annual Country Fayre, the older Atego brothers learn of their father’s passing. When fifteen year old Silas Atego learns the mysterious illness that took his father might have been a curse from a demon, his need for answers draws him to the one place he must not go. The far side of the Wall.

When Silas is still missing days later, his older brother Raphael sets out on his own to bring him home. On his journey, Raphael learns how it was his ancestor who was cursed by a demon creature from the Lake and had the Wall built to keep them out. More desperate than ever to find his brother, his search draws Raphael to the same terrifying barrier.

Along the brothers’ individual travels they face their greatest fears, make lifelong friends, and more importantly, learn the truth of what happened centuries ago.

Blindsighted Wanderer is a tale about how truth and forgiveness will set you free. Where myths are transformed to legends that last a lifetime. The brothers leave their home as desperate boys but return to their family as honorable men.

Blindsighted Wanderer is a young adult fantasy, coming of age story appropriate for readers 12 +.

The Pager Turners

I really enjoyed this book.  The writing was very good, the ideas and over all flow of the story was amazing.  It was a different take on mermaids, which I found interesting.  The main premise of the story is about the Atego family, mainly the two eldest brothers Silas and Raphael.

The book opens with the back story about the boy’s ancestor who did a terrible thing to a mermaid,  and therefore the whole familial line was cursed to die a terrible death, because of what this one man did.  Silas and Raphael’s father dies of this sickness and Silas decided that he has to go and make it right because he doesn’t want to die this way; nor does he want his other brothers to die in such a manner.  So he leaves in the dead of the night to go over the Wall to the forbidden lake.

Raphael wakes to realize this and chases after his brother to bring him back to the family because they depend on him.  Before Raphael can get to Silas to bring him back Silas finds the mermaid and snatches her from the lake by force.  In doing so it bars the mermaid, who is the next queen, from going back into the lake.  She cursed Silas and put a brand on his hand and took his sight from him during the daylight hours.  He wanders the countryside until he is found by some gypsies and they nurse him back to health until he is able to make his way back to his family.  In the end the family is reunited, Silas falls in love, and the mermaid realizes that you can’t hold hate in your heart and still be happy.  Raphael helped her to realize that she was not all that she could.

This is a very good book you young readers and adult alike.  It will hold your attention and make you read on to find out what comes next.
