Shotgun Arcana Spotlight & Giveaway {Book Nerd Tours}

Publisher: Tor Books

Published: 07 October 2014
Format: Hardback 400 pages

R. S. Belcher’s debut novel, The Six-Gun Tarot, was enthusiastically greeted by critics and readers, who praised its wildly inventive mixture of dark fantasy, steampunk, and the Wild West. Now Belcher returns to Golgotha, Nevada, a bustling frontier town that hides more than its fair share of unnatural secrets.

1870. A haven for the blessed and the damned, including a fallen angel, a mad scientist, a pirate queen, and a deputy who is kin to coyotes, Golgotha has come through many nightmarish trials, but now an army of thirty-two outlaws, lunatics, serial killers, and cannibals are converging on the town, drawn by a grisly relic that dates back to the Donner Party…and the dawn of humanity.

Sheriff Jon Highfather and his deputies already have their hands full dealing with train robbers, a mysterious series of brutal murders, and the usual outbreaks of weirdness. But with thirty-two of the most vicious killers on Earth riding into Golgotha in just a few day’s time, the town and its people will be tested as never before—and some of them will never be the same.

The Shotgun Arcana is even more spectacularly ambitious and imaginative than The Six-Gun Tarot, and confirms R. S. Belcher’s status as a rising star.

He was managing editor of The Vinton Messenger newspaper and editor for numerous trade publications. He has done technical writing and has ghost-written political editorials and advertising copy. He has been a writing guest at numerous conventions and writing conferences for many years. He is available for Bar Mitzvahs…

Rod began writing stories when he was 9 years old, selling stories and self- drawn comics to his mother’s beauty shop customers for a quarter a piece. That first quarter was the start of his road to Hell…

In a creative writing course he was selected for in 6th grade, Rod was told his SF/Fantasy writing was “silly trash” ( kinda true, but hey, I was in sixth grade…) but the lack of support from an adult “expert” made him feel like he couldn’t “really write” and he stopped writing for a few years. Thanks to the love, encouragement and support of his mom, Mabel, Rod started writing again when he got a typewriter for his 12th birthday. Thanks Mom.

You can write. Yes, you. You have a story, maybe a bunch of stories inside you screaming to be let out. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t write, or that your writing is no good. It’s good for you, good for the thing inside you that demands you get that story out somehow. Don’t write for praise, or for money, write for you, only you, and to hell with the rest of them.

He was once told by Elizabeth Taylor, he was “hot” and once told by George Takei he “looked terrible” ( he did). He watched a man die in the electric chair, investigated homicides, pissed off politicians and located missing children. The CIA told him to “clean up his act”- this was one of his proudest moments.

In his spare time ( which he has damn little of these days), Rod enjoys reading, hiking, shooting, gaming ( mostly tabletop RPG or board games, but some console), comics, researching the weird, spending time with his amazing kids, and long, thoughtful, walks in the rain…OK, the last one is crap, but the rest is true.

He lives in Roanoke Virginia with his children: Jonathan, Emily and Stephanie, Three cats and two dogs.

Guest Post with Author Howard Shapiro

The differences between writing a novel and a graphic novel.

It’s a great question, when I write a graphic novel I am doing it in an almost completely visual way. Meaning that I visualize the scene and then write it to the visual.  What I do is I send the illustrator a quasi-script and lay the page out as best I can and let them go at it.  What happened a lot with both books is that the illustrators were able to take the words I wrote and visually fill in the blanks. So, what ended up happening on a few different pages is that I simply removed the words and let the visuals do the talking. Whereas with a novel, you are the eyes and ears for the reader and place them in the scene and describe everything, the smells, the look and so on.  When writing a GN you can let  the artist carry a lot of the heavy lifting and concentrate on making the conversation between the characters really pop.  This works out good for me because I love to write dialogue between characters and it’s my strength as a writer.

Bad Boy by Jamie Lake Review & COMMENT Giveaway {GGR Promo Group}

Bad Boy: Naughty at Night
Book Title:  Bad Boy
Author:  Jamie Lake
Publisher: Jamie Lake (June 25, 2014)
Book Length:  65 pages
Genre:  Novella, MM, Erotica

Kindergarten teacher by day, sensual masseuse by night, Peter Davidson never thought things would get so tough that he’d need to give out sensual massages in secret in order to make ends meet. But when the school slashes his hours in half and with no other jobs available in town, he stumbles across the opportunity when fiddling around on an online dating site and a rather handsome older gentleman offers him money.

What he thinks will be a onetime thing turns into a booming business at night, and Peter promises himself he’ll only do it long enough just until he gets caught up. He has nothing else going on in his life, after all.

Handsome, classy and educated as he is, Peter still hasn’t met The One. Until, that is, he meets Chip - the parent of a new student, who turns out to be more man than he’s ever dreamed of.

What will Chip say if he finds out what Peter is doing on the side? And, what’s worse, what will the school say when they find out this teacher has been a very bad boy?

Available now through Amazon | Amazon UK

Peter Davidson is a low paid kindergarten Art teacher that needs to find a way to make ends meet. His department at school keeps getting passed over for funds, so Peter takes a pay cut to ensure the Art program continues to grow. The problem is his grumpy roommate is looking for the rent, and Peter doesn't have it. On a whim, he sets up an online ad to give massages, not quite expecting the response he receives.

Tony is a thug, a big sexy man, used to getting what he wants. Right now that is Peter. And while Peter enjoyed his brief time with Tony, he actually has his sights set on Chip. The cop and father of one of his students. Thinking that his encounter with Tony was a one time thing, Peter doesn't expect the man to just show up on his doorstep, laying down the law and basically laying claim to Peter. What will his cop do if he finds out about Tony, about what it is that Peter does to supplement his income?

There was something about this story that kept me engrossed, I think perhaps it was the danger of Peter being found out at any moment. I really enjoyed the story itself about a man who will do just about anything to guarantee his students have an Art program, but makes some very bad decisions along the way. There are consequences for anyone's actions, and it looks like Peter will find that out the hard way.

Sadly, this story was riddled with mistakes. Typo's galore, missplaced words, run on sentences, and even a name swap along the way. There was nothing wrong with the story or characters themselves, just the formatting and spelling. I'm rounding my rating up from 2.5 to 3 stars because the author did enough to draw me into this world and leave me hanging, wanting to read the next installment to see who will get the guy. The good looking cop? Or the sexy, dangers thug? OR, will both men walk away from Peter. On to the next book to see!

My name is Jamie Lake and I'm the author of more than 12 gay romance novels. I've been a big fan of gay romance books ever since I started reading them and I really try to do something a little  different. Some of my favorite gay romance mm authors are Kindle Alexander, Sara York, Riley Hart and  River Jaymes.

With my own novels, I like to give my readers all the hot steamy scenes they like, but I also write characters with a lot of drama.

Every single character I write has a piece of me in them and in many ways, their situations have mirrored things I've been through in my own life or other people I know have been through. Whether it's Casey in "Boyfriend for Rent" who was kicked out his boyfriend's house suddenly or Chris in "The Trainer" who was cheated on or even Peter in the "Bad Boy" series who was desperate to find love and stability, I've been there and done that.

Fortunately for me, I have a wonderful partner now, so I know the heights of true love but I also know the lows of a messy breakup. I hope you enjoy reading my gay romance mm stories as much I enjoy writing And although my books have found amazing success, I'm so grateful for every single one of my readers who have helped me make my dream of becoming a full-time gay romance author come true. You rock!

Jerking Iron by Nya Rawlyns Spotlight, Excerpt & Giveaway {GGR Promo Group}

Bad Boyfriends book #3

With his business empire under fire and ready to collapse, Kane and his partners turn to unlikely sources for help.

Nick Lopez is a wounded warrior, an undercover major crimes cop caught in the crossfire when he brokers a deal between competing rival Miami crime families. When his best friend, David Black, calls him for advice, Nick sees it as an omen. Sometimes it’s better to get out of Dodge and live, so he quits the force and heads north.

Jace McClune has seen and done too much as a vice cop. His last undercover assignment was his undoing, leaving him with an intervention but no resolution. Thomas Kane has friends in high places and when he hints the mob’s fingerprints are all over the attempts to take over his business, the precinct brass see this as a good way for Jace to get his head on straight with a babysitting job.

Jace and Nick pair up for a simple sting operation, but they soon discover that under the layers of betrayal and lies runs the threat of a new operation—one that takes the skin trade to new levels of perversion. Neither man is prepared for the mutual attraction that simmers to a rolling boil as it becomes clear that the only way they can cut to the truth is to allow Jace to sink once more into the dangerous underbelly of the city.

They’re about to find out why a man you can’t break is a man worth breaking…

Excerpt #4: Heat level, steaming hot {if you are NOT over 18 or generally offended by hot, sexy men who can't keep their hands off each other, STOP reading now and exit this page immediately!}

Jace and Nick dance around their attraction, testing each other, pushing buttons. When Jace

retreats to his own room to research intel obtained from a friend in the department, Nick

barges in...

I was so busy staring at the lighted screen in the dark bedroom, I never heard him come

in, never sensed him towering over me, reaching for the phone and clicking it off, throwing

us into darkness, and my lust into full alert.

He growled, “You said it could wait until morning.”

“I lied.”

“Did you lie about wanting to fuck?”

“What is this ... truth or dare? Twenty questions ... what?”

“Answer the question.”

I swallowed at the tone of voice. It’d gone hard, commanding, turning my innards to goo.

I murmured, “No. I mean ... yes.”

“Which is it, Jace? Yes you lied, or yes you want to fuck.”

Wriggling got me nowhere. He had me pinned with his massive thighs, his mouth

millimeters from mine, his breath hot enough to melt the skin off my bones. The lashes and

welts on my back tingled as he shifted my body under his weight, my skin slipping against

the quilt, setting up a sweet ache that flared along my spine.

Ache morphed to pain and I tensed, the memory of that night exploding behind my

eyelids. I sucked air and fumbled for a safeword, any word. I didn’t have to ask, he offered.

“I won’t ever hurt you, Jace. Just tell me to stop and I will.”

He rolled, pulling me on top of him, freeing my arms, letting me make the final decision.

His erection was hard and thick and pressing at the crack, as my ass burned with anticipation.

I reached to grab the bag, dumping the contents on the nightstand. I tossed him a package

of condoms. “Here, open this. I got the jumbo size. Hope it fits.”

“You put a lot of pressure on a fellow, McClune.”

“It’s for me, asshole. I’m driving tonight.”

He laughed, the sound rumbling from deep in his chest. God, how I loved to listen to him.

His voice was a basso profundo—the deepest of deep—and the accent lilted his words, like

he was making music every time he spoke.

By the time he’d seen to the preliminaries I was in a sweat, rubbing against his cock from

pucker to balls and back, the sensation driving me nuts. When he rolled the condom on my

cock, I nearly lost it.

He said, “Go slow. It’s been a long time.”

Lubing my fingers, I eased back to reach the tight ring of muscle, inserting a finger then

two. He pulled his legs up to his chest, his flesh quivering, either from my stroking and

stretching, or from the fact he was relinquishing control to a sub, a sub with injuries he didn’t

inflict.

When I hit just the right spot, he jerked and hissed, “Oh, fuck, right there.” I kept teasing

him, inserting three fingers and rubbing him until he howled, “Oh sweet Jesus, I’m not going

to last,” and pumped his own cock hard.

I eased in, giving him time to adjust, but he wasn’t having any of it. With an upward

thrust he impaled my cock to the hilt, rocking me into the valley between his legs. He pulled

me into a brutal kiss, lips and teeth and tongue ravaging my mouth, sucking all the air from

my body until I went lightheaded and giddy with the feel of my cock buried so deep inside

him, the heat igniting me into a frenzy.

Pulling away from his demanding mouth, I rocked back and braced my hands on his

thighs, giving myself leverage as I pummeled him hard, balls to ass, the sound of skin

slapping skin, his moans, the sweat pouring off me in a waterfall of lust...

Together we pumped his cock in rhythm with my thrusts. When the orgasm hit, it was so

sudden it took me by surprise, blowing through me like a bullet train, spine to ass to balls. As

the spasms eased, I pumped his cock once, twice, and he came on a bellow as thick ropes of

cum coated his belly and chest.

I collapsed on him as he wrapped his legs around me, holding me fast, cum and sweat

gluing us together. He had his chin on the top of my head, our chests in a frantic rise and fall

as we sucked air and waited for our heartbeats to slow.

His fingers found the pattern on my back, tracing the ridges and valleys. He had

questions. I didn’t blame him for that. If the tables had been turned, I would be the same.

He took a deep breath, and I prepared myself to say no, I can’t talk about it, not this,

never this.

Instead Nick said, “I will never hurt what’s mine.”

Welcome to TTC Sara, why don’t you start by telling us about yourself.

Where are you from?
I grew up in Texas, living a bit in a small town and some of my time on a ranch. We lived in a rural town that was very backwards. There was a huge divide between races, the wealthy and the poor, people who were white collar and blue collar, and anyone else who was different. It wasn’t the most hospitable place to grow up.

Where do you call home?
Currently, I live in South Carolina on an island. We love it here. The trees are huge and we have a great beach with lots of space. The people are wonderful too. There is more acceptance here than where we lived before.

What brought you to the M/M genre?
I love stories with loads of conflict and great characters. Writing gay characters allows me the freedom to delve into the conflict that is present in society surrounding gay issues.
I love men and have always found it easier to write them. When I found the MM genre and realized that I could write books with two men, it was a no brainer. The genre is maturing and has much more variance in stories than it did a few years ago. I love how the MM readers have grown up with the genre so the authors can push the limit and create great books instead of doing the same thing over and over again.

What inspires you to write?
The thing that drives me the most is the story itself. There is a lot of healing that goes on when people read. Books that deal with gay issues have the power to help people gain understanding. Reading for pleasure is one of the best things you can do for your soul and mind. It’s that pleasure that people get from reading that inspires me, too. I want people to think when they read my books. Sometimes the stories may challenge the reader, like After The End, but in that challenge the reader grows.

Whom in your life would you say has influenced you the most? There are quite a few people, but mainly my husband and kids. I have a never give up attitude, and because I have my husband and kids behind me, supporting me, I push myself harder.

What is something you can tell us about yourself that might surprise your fans? I’m fairly open about almost everything so I’m not sure they would be surprised. Maybe they’d be surprised that I can pick up 200 pounds. Of course it has to be on a barbell, and I have to be warmed up, but I do like to lift heavy.

What are you working on currently?
I’m working on an anthology called Limelight with a couple of awesome authors. I’m also working on a winter story for MLR Press, and the next in the Colorado Heart series.

Love your honesty Sara, thank you so much for stopping by TTC today and sharing your new release with us! Until next time...

Here is an excerpt from After The End...

After he finished, both of them satisfied, William pulled him up and brushed his lips over Dean’s. The kiss was charged with sensuality and caring. At first Dean stilled, wondering what the hell had gotten into William. They’d kissed before, but not like this. Not with William’s hands caressing his neck and face, and certainly not with the passion he felt flowing from the guy. He was a booty call to William, nothing more. The kiss spoke of love and caring, not hooking up and getting off.
Surprised, Dean tried to process the sensations and stop his feelings from running over his good senses. This wasn’t real. They’d changed a little since those first few times, but he wouldn’t acknowledge the difference. Speaking about the changes would mean they’d have to confront the truth, and no matter how many times they got off together, William would never really be his.
“I’ve left you some money under my pillow,” William whispered.
Pain lanced Dean’s heart. No matter how gentle William was with his kisses, he’d never really respect him. Dean shook his head, and tried like hell to hang onto his anger. “I can’t accept your money.”
“Take it. It’s not for sex. Okay, I...hell, I know about your parents and your house. I can’t....”
Heat filled Dean, his whole body burning like never before. “What the hell have you done?”
“Get real, I’m not going to ask you to be my...mistress isn’t the right word, but I want you around, you know, living close to where I do. I can’t offer more than that right now, but dammit, we’re good together.”
Dean stepped away from William and scowled. “I’m not some whore you can buy.”
“I didn’t say that. I know you’re smart. Hell, everyone at Blackwell knows you’re the smartest guy in school. But I want you.”
He shook his head violently, the food sitting in his stomach threatened to come up. “I can’t take your money.”
“Dean, please. I want you to be able to eat this week.”
Anger flashed. “My God, you don’t get it, do you?”
“No, I sure as hell don’t. Just take the fucking money. My parents give me a thousand dollars a week and I don’t have to pay for anything. I have cash and it’s disgusting. I don’t want it all, but I want you in my life.”
Dean started pulling on his pants. As he tugged them over his thighs he realized  he’d forgotten his underwear. He almost left them in his haste to get away, but William was right. He was fucking poor. If he left the underwear here, he’d only have three pair that didn’t have holes in them.
William grabbed his shoulders as he stood from retrieving his underwear. He was pressed up against the wall and held there. Dean wouldn’t meet William’s gaze.
“Please, don’t be this way. Don’t end it like this,” William begged.
Dean stilled, his heart thudding. “You know it’s going to end soon.”

“We can work something out,” William pled. His brows bunched together and his eyes were full of desperation. The man looked adorable and heartbreakingly bad for him all at the same time. Dean would lose himself, his self-worth, and his future if he stayed.
