Series: Bounty Hunters #1
Author: A.E. Via
Genre: M/M Romance

Duke Morgan owns and operates one of the largest bail bond companies in Atlanta. Not only does he bond criminals out of jail, he and his notorious group of bounty hunters will also track them down and ensure they show up for court. Roman ‘Quick’ Webb is Duke’s business partner and best friend. Both men are in their forties and have given up on the happily ever after with the ranch-style home, and white picket fence. They’d both tried it and failed miserably. But they have their friendship and they have the business. When Quick’s son, Vaughan Webb returns – after seven years - from studying abroad with his law degree in hand, he’s back to claim what he’s always wanted…his fathers’ best friend… Duke Morgan. Vaughan has always claimed to be a classic gentleman with an old soul. He didn’t party and screw up in school like his buddies. He was focused and dedicated to becoming the man worthy of Duke’s love. It’s a complex and messy situation as Duke and Quick figure out how to still be best friends when one of them is sleeping with his friend’s one and only son. But when Duke is hurt on the job, all the unimportant trivialities fall to the wayside and Vaughan and Quick put their heads together to save Duke. Part I of the Promises story is about Duke and Vaughan. Part II will be about Quick and his realization that it’s not too late for any of them to find love.
Duke Morgan is a bounty hunter that runs a very successful bail bond company that has recently expanded to include PI work. Duke along with his best friend Roman 'Quick' Webb and his former friend with benefits Judge, work hard to keep the mean streets of Atlanta at least somewhat clean. The one thing that continues to elude Duke is love. That is until Quick's son Vaughan returns home from law school to claim what he believes has been his since he was fifteen years old, Duke.
I was very excited to read this story after having read all the books in the 'Nothing Special' series by this author where Duke has a small role. My heart broke a little for Duke after he and Judge parted ways, but I also realized that what Duke and Judge shared was far from love, so I hoped that Via would give Duke his own happy ever after. When Vaughan returns home, he immediately sets events in motion to allow him and Duke to finally be together. You see, Vaughan has wanted Duke since he was old enough to realize what attraction was. He was honest with his father about it, and though Quick worried about his son and/or his best friend getting hurt, he provided unwavering support for his son and I loved that about him.
I've seen several reviews that took marks off citing insta-love. Vaughan is in his late twenties when he returns to Atlanta, it's clearly stated early on how long he has been gone and how long he has been pining for Duke. There was no insta-love here, Vaughan's feelings for Duke have been festering for about a dozen years. Right from the start Duke feels completely comfortable and at ease with Vaughan and the prospect of being lovers. His main issue is how his best friend, Quick, will react to Duke loving his son. I really liked that Via showed Quick questioning his son several times. "Are you sure?" "I love you and I'll support you, I just don't want you to get hurt." But not once did Quick look down on either of them or try to keep them apart, I loved that about him.
When Duke gets hurt going after a bounty, everyone in his life rallies around him, supports him. It's Vaughan that makes the biggest sacrifice though. He has waited entirely too long to get his hands on Duke Morgan and there is no price too high as far as Vaughan is concerned to make sure Duke is his. Now it's time for his father to do the same, right after he pulls his head out of his ass!
I am always entranced in Via's books, her ability to pair strong, alpha males and make the relationship believable. This particular story is a May/December romance with a twist, definitely a must read for anyone that loves a passionate romance. There is also a lot of action and some suspense in this book as well, a little bit of something for everyone I'm sure. A five star read for me!

A.E. Via is still a fairly new author in the beautiful gay erotic genre. Her writing embodies everything from spicy to scandalous. Her stories often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.
When she’s not clicking away at her laptop, she devotes herself to her family—a husband and four children, her two pets, a Maltese dog and her white Siamese cat, ELynn, named after the late, great gay romance author E. Lynn Harris.
While this is only her eighth novel, she has plenty more to come. So stalk her – she loves that - because the male on male action is just heating up!
