More Things in Heaven and Earth by Paul Comeau | Cat's Release day Review & #giveaway @Dreamspinners

When young Danny Crawford’s father and a priest conspire to subject him to conversion therapy, Danny only sees one way out. But little does Danny know he’ll soon have a sentinel watching from the darkness, a guardian angel in the most unlikely form imaginable.

Damien, a vampire, is inexplicably moved by Danny’s plight. He takes it upon himself to make sure Danny’s father and the priest can never hurt him again, giving Danny a chance at a normal life. As Danny grows up, Damien struggles to keep the boy—and later the young man—from harm. He does not dare go any further, no matter how much he wants to. To do so would ruin everything he’s tried to do for Danny. He doesn’t realize that as Danny embarks on a successful modeling career and begins dating, Danny feels empty, longing for something—or someone—just beyond his reach: a shadow, a presence he despairingly believes forever lost to him.

When brutality and violence threaten Danny again, Damien must make a decision—risk revealing himself to Danny, or leave Danny to his fate.

Cat gives this one 4 Meows with a 3 Purr heat index...

Damien has been a Vampire for 20 years, and he was in his early twenties when he was turned. He has been alone all that time and had to learn how to feed, what he could and couldn't do and, most importantly, how to fend for himself. He never met the vampire that turned him or any other vampires, he was alone. He fed on the rich and got his money that way. He also fed on poor or other victims. He liked to change up his feeding habits as not to set a pattern to lead anyone to try and figure out who or what he is. One night in the hospital posing as a priest he came looking for a dying victim. The only one that night had family with him, but there was a young boy in the room that no one had come to visit. When he saw Danny something in him wouldn't take his life. Instead, he became friends with Danny and protected him.

More Things In Heaven and Earth is an excellent vampire story. I loved the romanticism and how Damien quoted Shakespeare a lot. I loved Danny's take on Dracula when he starred in a play trying to allure Damien to him. I loved the romance between Danny and Damien and how it grows as Danny ages. I also applaud the author for having Damien wait to move on his feelings for Danny until he was a grown man.

I will say that the story jumps around a lot. Particularly in the beginning. When a character is introduced we meet them; then it goes back into their past then back to the present. It was a bit jarring, and that happens with several characters. Having said that, I absolutely loved the story.

There is violence as Damien is a vampire and he doesn't sparkle. He takes his love for Danny very seriously and protects him fiercely, sometimes violently. If you like vampires, Shakespeare, sweet romance and off-page sex, this is for you.

Paul is a proud Canadian, who has recently retired from teaching high school English and is relieved to have finally traded the drudgery of lesson prep and essay marking for the pure joy of writing fiction.  He is addicted to paranormal investigator shows, horror movies, all things vampire, mystery novels, long morning walks, and jigsaw puzzles.  He is blessed with a loving and supportive wife, who keeps him grounded in reality while helping him navigate the intimidating world of technology, and a daughter who understands the highs and lows of the enigmatic writing process, being herself an accomplished writer and poet.  When he is not compulsively tapping the keys of his laptop, he can be found at the dining room table matching the shapes and patterns of his latest jigsaw puzzle or in the kitchen roasting, stewing, grilling, and baking.  He views cooking as a creative activity, like writing fiction, with the outcome often as interesting and unexpected.  He imagines his characters, plots, and dialogues in the process of doing any or all of these things.

Love's Opening Night by Jeff Adams | Tams Review, Guest Post, Playlist & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @hockeyguynyc

Many thanks to Tammy for hosting me to talk about my latest release, Love’s Opening Night

This novella is set during rehearsal of a new Broadway musical. Jeremy Steele is a long-time Broadway and theater performer and as he learns more about his crush, and now co-star, Ty Beaumont. As part of their courtship he learns some of Ty’s musical preferences and Jeremy shares his as well.

With so many real musicals noted in the story, I put together a Spotify playlist that includes a few songs from each of the musicals mentioned in the book. Of course, the show Jeremy and Ty are rehearsing, Love Crossings, isn’t real. However, in the list below I tell you what it might sound like if it were.

Here’s a quick look at the musicals that have songs featured in the playlist. The Bridges of Madison County: This was short-lived on Broadway despite it’s lushly romantic score by Jason Robert Brown became a favorite of mine. It is, of course, based on the book by Robert James Waller. In Love’s Opening Night, Jeremy mentions Bridges as a show he’d like to do because he wants to sing the score. The playlist has three of the songs that he’d sing if he were cast as Robert. If Love Crossings was a real show, I’d want Brown to do the music and lyrics because of the work he does here.

Ragtime: Another musical based on a book, this one from E.L. Doctorow. It tells the intersecting stories of a Caucasian family, an immigrant family and an African-American family in the early 1900s. Jeremy silently chastises himself at one point for “channeling Mother.” The playlist has two songs that feature Mother and “Our Children” specifically showcases what Jeremy is talking about.

Sweeney Todd: This is another show that Jeremy wants to sing the leading role. The playlist has two songs that feature Sweeney that he would sing.

Wicked: Jeremy left Wicked to take the role in Love Crossings so the playlist had to have a couple songs from this show. I highlighted songs Fiyero performs since Jeremy was an understudy for that character.

Kinky Boots: This is a musical Ty wants to be in, specifically he’d like to take on the role of Lola, even though he can’t since it’s written for an African-American man. I put in three songs here that show the range Lola’s character. It’s easy to hear why Ty would want to do this show.

Falsettos: Another of Ty’s dream roles is Whizzer in Falsettos. The three songs that round out the playlist highlight Whizzer at a few different points in the show that takes place in the 80s just as the AIDS epidemic is beginning.

I hope you enjoyed that peek into the musical world of Jeremy and Ty from Love’s Opening Night. Check out the Rafflecopter below for a chance to win your own copy of the novella!

Tams gives this one 5 Stars...

Author Jeff Adams has taken his love for the theater and translated it into a short, fun love story. When Jeremy, a theater veteran, has to teach newcomer, Ty, choreography for an upcoming show, sparks fly. Unsure if Ty is feeling the pull to him as well, Jeremy doesn't act on his attraction, until a kiss is shared. Even then Jeremy is left to wonder if what they are feeling is something that could take them the distance. And if so, can they be open and honest about their relationship?

A fast, fun read with zero angst, which I loved by the way. Two grown men dancing with and around each other. Sparks fly, attraction grows and then an intense kiss changes everything. I loved the way the romance blossomed between the two men and I actually liked the fact that there was no on page sex. Jeremy and Ty deliver passion and sensuality with feelings, romance, communication and a few fierce make out scenes. Sometimes the 'fade to black' holds so much more than a ten page description, if you get my meaning.

Loved it, highly recommend it and I really hope to see more stories along this same path from Adams.

Snow in Montana (Montana Series Book 4) by RJ Scott | Cat's Review & #giveaway @Rjscott_author

An actor in the closet, a sheriff in love, and memories that won’t stay hidden.

Jordan Darby is known as the King of Christmas. The star of eight made-for-TV Christmas movies, the leading man who always gets his girl. Filming at Crooked Tree Ranch in Montana, in the ice and snow, Jordan is fighting to make a go of his new company and dealing with fears of exposure over one huge secret. After all, who the hell would buy into him being a romantic straight lead if rumors about him being gay were proven to be true?
Sheriff Ryan Carter is advising on the new movie being made at Crooked Tree. He hoped this would be one day of work and nothing more. Until, that is, he meets the hero. But while Jordan is sexy, he’s also very much stuck in the closet—everything that Ryan doesn’t need in his life. And then lust becomes part of the equation, and Ryan’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil.
Their story unfolds against the chaos that overtakes the ranch, with Adam regaining memories that terrify him and make him look at Justin differently, and Justin leaving the ranch to make things right. Only through trusting in love and friendship can Justin and Adam learn to look to the future instead of letting the past destroy everything. But will they ever see clearly enough to do that?

Cat gives this one 5 Meows with a 3 Purr heat index...
Snow in Montana is in multiple views but well-written with scene changes labeled, so you know who's view you are getting. It is n mostly Jordan, an actor, Ryan the sheriff, Justin, and Adam from the previous books and residents of Crooked Tree Ranch.

I liked that we had the freshness of Ryan and Jordan, a sweet building romance between the hot Sherriff and Ironically, a romance actor and the contrast of the drama between Adam and Justin.

Adam is having nightmares, slowly remembering his ordeal but in them Justin is there front and center, causing fear and friction. Justin can't believe his best friend and first love would ever think he would hurt him or leave him like that. This drama also causes friction between Ethan and Adam and Adam's dad, Justin and Ethan as well. (Justin and Ethan are brothers and have a share of the ranch.)

So as you see, you have the drama. Ryan and Jordan's story is more sexy and sweet. Jordan is presumably the straight actor in lots of made for TV Christmas romances. He and his brother have started their own company, so eventually, in a few years, Jordan can come out and begin his life.

All in all, I was happy with the story. I will say the cover threw me off a bit. I like looking at a cover and visualizing the characters, and I had trouble seeing Ryan in either of them at six foot five and a bit broader with a soft middle( which I loved that he wasn't the perfect exercise-all- the-time bulky six-pack abs guy. I loved the realism. I was excited he had so many brothers to see they were mostly straight and that this was a wrap to the series. Is was a nice satisfying one, though.

If you like hot sheriffs, sexy actor's cowboys, snow, sweet romance a little drama and a satisfying ending you will love this one!

Hell Takes A Holiday by @KiernanKelly | Tams Review, Excerpt & #giveaway @Dreamspinners

Hell takes a Holiday
Kiernan Kelly
2nd Edition

Despite a major setback, Lucifer has no time to feel sorry for himself. Running Hell is a monumental task, even though he’s taken steps to modernize it with technology like closed-circuit cameras and security systems.

As he struggles with his infernal issues, an unannounced visitor threatens to break his black heart. Lucifer hasn’t seen Uriel since his Fall, but he remembers how much he loved Uriel and how betrayed he felt when Uriel didn't stand with him during the War.

Uriel has been sent to inspect the changes Lucifer has made and report back to Heaven. Lucifer has no choice but to give Uriel a guided tour of the Nine Circles, and all the feelings come rushing back.

Uriel hasn't forgotten Lucifer either, and they pick up where they left off—with enough sizzle to rival the hottest of hell's fires. But their reunion will be short-lived, unless Uriel relinquishes his halo—which Lucifer is unwilling to let him do.

First Edition published by Torquere Press, 2008.

Tams gives this one 5 Stars...

Lucifer and Uriel were lovers, before the fall. In fact, it was Lucifer's love for Uriel that started it all. Fed up with playing second fiddle to man kind, God's precious creation, and having to play down his affections for Uriel, Lucifer incited the war that led to his fall. Centuries later he's still raw about it all when he receives a surprise guest just in time for Christmas.

Short, sexy and steamy... my three favorite colors! I really enjoyed this book, the way the author put her own spin on the circles of hell, the reason for the fall/war and the way things have spiraled out of control within modern day religions and such. It's hard to put too much down in a review without giving too much away, it is a novella after all. Let's just say it's very well written and conveyed, I laughed so hard a couple of times, but there was a hefty amount of sensuality and prowess in the story as well.

Excerpt...

“I trust you’re not here to make idle chitchat.” Lucifer set his jaw and ignored his traitorous body. “What do you want?”
Uriel glanced around the room, refusing to be hurried or harried, which irritated Lucifer even more. “Is there somewhere we can talk privately? It’s a little… stuffy in here.” Uriel slipped one of his long, slender fingers into the neckline of his robe and tugged it away from his throat.
Lucifer snorted ungraciously. “We’re not built for comfort down here, Uriel. Tell me why you’ve come, and then you can go right the fuck back Upstairs, where the air is clean and the shit don’t stink.”
Uriel had the audacity to laugh. “You’re still as sarcastic as ever. I’ve missed your sense of humor, Luce.”
“Do you see me laughing? I mean it, Uriel. Spit it out. I know you’re not here because the holidays made you nostalgic. I’m busy and have better things to do than chew the fat with you.”
“I can’t, Luce, not here. I need to talk to you alone.”
“You can tell me now, or not tell me at all. It’s your choice.” Lucifer glared at him, refusing to let their history together influence him. Heaven was hitting below the belt by sending Uriel to him. It was a dirty trick, and he didn’t appreciate it at all, particularly since he didn’t understand why Heaven would go to the trouble. He refused to admit how good it was to see Uriel, even if the memory of their parting still stung.
Uriel’s expression grew sober, his wings sagging a bit. “Please, Luce? It’s really important—you know I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t.”
Lucifer stifled a startled gasp. There was a pleading note in Uriel’s voice, which was odd enough, but worse, he swore he saw something in Uriel’s beautiful eyes that he’d never seen before. It was elusive, there one second and gone the next, but he recognized it for what it was: fear.
What in the Universe did an archangel have to fear?
He nodded slowly, not even understanding himself why he was giving in. He’d get to the bottom of it soon enough. For now, regardless of how badly Uriel had hurt him before, or how many eons had passed since Lucifer last saw him, all he wanted was to erase the fear from Uriel’s eyes and see him smile one more time.
Afterward, he promised himself he would kick Uriel’s sweet ass all the way back Upstairs and leave him there with Lucifer’s indelible footprint stamped for all time on Uriel’s perfectly shaped rump.
“Follow me.” He turned and led Uriel back toward the hallway. “And don’t touch the sinners. I don’t want them contaminated by your goodness and light,” he couldn’t resist adding with a sneer.

I write m/m fiction because, while one hot guy is enough to curl my toes and melt my underwear, two together leaves me drowning in a puddle of my own drool which is probably the same reason you read it! Kiernan Kelly lives in Florida among the alligators and palmetto bugs with her husband and a Shar Pei-Labrador puppy who thinks she's a person (the dog, not Kiernan. Kiernan knows she's a person. At least, she is after she's had her daily dose of caffeine).
Kiernan spends most of her time writing gay erotic romance while chained to a computer in the dark recesses of her office, which her children have dubbed, "The Gay Cave."

Excerpt...

She’d dated before, she reminded herself. But it didn’t help. This was different. It felt different. It felt important, and because of that she was infinitely more worried that she was about to screw it up.

She watched the road. Right turn. Left turn. She looked back over her shoulder, but couldn’t see the house anymore.

This was crazy. She wasn’t going to make it through the whole night like this. She’d have a heart attack. Or a stroke. Or a nervous breakdown.

“I got you something,” he said.

She watched as he pulled a small, square box from his pocket. Her heart tripped in her chest as her mind raced through the different jewelry pieces that could be inside. Surely he hadn’t bought a ring. That would have been insane. They hadn’t even gone on a real date. Plus, if he knew her at all he’d know she was impossible to shop for.

She nearly rolled down the window because there wasn’t nearly enough oxygen in the cab for them both to stay conscious.

“Take it,” he said, extending his arm her direction.

“You didn’t have to get me anything.” She should have gotten him something. Was that what people did on dates?

            “I know.”

She took the small box, biting the inside of her cheek as she opened the lid. Inside wasn’t jewelry. No gold or silver. No diamonds or other precious stones.

            It was buttons.

Twenty or so of them. All different colors and shapes. Some looked almost antique, others like they’d fallen off the girls’ clothes. There was one in the shape of a copper penny, and another made of thick burlap. All of them were unique, like the pieces she could make with them.

“I’ve been saving them for you,” he said, sounding a little uncertain. “I thought you might be able to use them for one or two of your projects.”

She could already picture a collection of them sewn onto one of her simple black dresses in the closet. Or some of the bigger ones on a hairpiece or a brooch.

“Thank you,” she said, her chest tight. It was the nicest thing anyone had ever gotten her.

@TTCBooksandmore 12 Days of #giveaway Event | Day 11 Author LE Franks @Dreamspinner @boxtersushi

Happy Holidays everyone and welcome to TTC Books and more 12 Days of Giveaways event!

I've teamed up with 12 amazing Authors to put together 12 days of fun that will include promos, spotlights, reviews, special Christmas guest posts and... giveaways! Each day starting today and going through December 23rd will spotlight a different Author, and each Author is offering up a giveaway on their day. You could win e-books, giftcards, swag and more. It's Day 11 of the event and while I'm sad were on the home stretch, I'm excited to bring this next one to you as it's a story that both encompasses what the season is about and it's heartwarming and simply fantastic read as well.
May I present Mrs. LE Franks and Snow Globe...

Kris Hamilton escaped the rat race in LA to live his dream of owning an art studio and making snow globes in a Christmas-themed town in northern Minnesota. But life in a tiny town isn't as peaceful as advertised, and being treated like an outsider is making Kris’s Tourette's flare up. When he inadvertently offends Tyr Tollefson—a beautiful blond giant of a man—Kris is ready to chuck it all. But he strikes up an unlikely friendship with Tyr's cousin Bun, who shows them the magic of Christmas and gives them both a lesson in love and acceptance.

"Short Holiday themed story."
Overall
Performance
Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. It's short and romantic and quite descriptive for so few pages.

What did you like best about this story?
The way Kris kind of communicated through his Tourettes. Saying things he otherwise wouldn't have said out loud.

Have you listened to any of Dave Gillies’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, but I want more!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me smile!

Any additional comments?
Kris Hamilton turned his online snow globe making business into something full time, buying into a store in Minnesota and moving his life across country. Only to be ceremoniously ostracized by his neighbors because he is different. Kris is tall, thin and has the appearance of an Anime character come to life, he’s gay and he has Tourettes. Any one of these characteristics would be frowned upon in this straight laced Midwestern town, but Kris seems to have nailed the trifecta.

When Tyr Tollefson and his niece stumble into Kris’s store and are witness to a full on episode, Tyr gets the wrong impression. But Kris’s personality shines when he starts to get to know Try and Bun, and Tyr learns the real reason behind Kris’s outbursts. While Kris is unable to control what comes out of his mouth most of the time, his outbursts serve to bring him and Tyr closer together as an odd form of communication. But inexperience and a town full of judgemental people threatens to drive a wedge between them.

This was a super short Christmas themed story. I was surprised at just how much content was given for a book just shy of an hour in length. I loved the detailed descriptive of the town, Kris’s work and Kris and Tyr’s appearance overall. I seriously had a visual of these two men and where they lived just by the words used for them. This was my first LE Franks book as well as my first Dave Gillies audible, it will not be the last for either of the afore mentioned! What a great collaboration of written word and the translation of them.

Definitely a must read for any fans of the genre that are looking for a heartfelt, romantic read for the Holiday. Again, it is very reasonably priced in both Audio and E-book, cheap enough in fact, this would be a great option for gifting as well.

Guest Post with Author LE Franks
Dreaming of a White Christmas

California is an oasis – the stuff of songs and movies and books. Artists have painted her glory, Ansel Adams photographed her majesty, but her golden shine begins to lose its luster for me when the last brown leaves fall, and the arctic breezes sweep down from Canada bringing the first winter storms of the season everywhere, but here.

That’s when I find myself pressing my nose against the screen of my laptop as friends populate their social media feeds with pictures of puppies in snowdrifts and crackling fires, snow memes, and still forest landscapes blanketed under white. As the snowless days pass by, my envy and longing turn to annual disgruntlement and ennui:

Don’t whine about blizzards and shoveling snow, scraping your windshields clear, or frozen nostril hair—I’d take them all and counter with only getting three seasons a year, of the lack of snowflakes in my hair and their incipient magic, and all the winter wear worn only once before being outgrown.

Sure we can find it if we try, but it means driving somewhere—like visiting a snow zoo on the top of a mountain. There’s big business in faux snow for the kids, but it’s not the same as tumbling out of bed and rushing to the window to find the backyard transformed from dull and drear to wintery magic. Or, sneaking out bare foot, snagging that first icy fistful of snow, or first lick of icicle, before retreating inside to thaw frozen fingers on hot mugs of chocolate.

So if you’re one of the lucky ones, remember – all that glitters is not gold… sometimes it’s just the dance of sunlight across a field of snow.

Wishing you all a warm and wonderful holiday season, however you celebrate. I’ll be here dreaming of snow. - LE
LE writes M/M Romance in a unique mix of humor and drama with enough suspense to produce fast-paced stories filled with emotion and passion and featuring characters that are quirky and complicated. Don’t expect the typical, rugged hero or sophisticated businessman with the world at their feet; LE’s men are living in the margins— they’re in the middle of their journey, doing the best they can while searching for a connection to something bigger than themselves. With a little effort, and a lot of luck, they may actually find their happily-ever-afters.

When not writing, LE wrangles an odd assortment of jobs (six— both paid and volunteer), houseguests (including pro baseball players), family, and friends. Manifesting an odd combination of contradictory talents and traits, LE is tragically honest and personally deceptive and makes the best piecrust— ever.
