Between a Rock and a Hard Place (A London Lads Story) by Clare London | Cat's Release day Review, Excerpt & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @clare_london

A London Lads Story

Garry’s at the end of his tether. He’s waiting at Glasgow Airport to meet his friend Will, on their way to a holiday in a Scottish Highlands hotel. Now there’s a ten-hour delay to incoming flights, the seat in the lounge is more like an instrument of torture, and he’s beyond tired of airport food.

He’s also dreading having to apologise for the pass he recently made at Will, his colleague at a London bank, under the influence of too many beers and a long-held crush. Now Will’s been offered a new job offer on a continent thousands of miles away, Garry realises it may be the end of their close friendship—let alone anything more.

To add to Garry’s stress, he’s treated to the company of Emily and Max, two young people who think he needs educating in the ways of the world. Struggling with their well-meaning help and the startling mess from spilled ketchup and noxious-smelling sweets, he’s encouraged to re-examine how he feels about Will and to decide what kind of journey he’d really like them to take together.

Stuck at an airport waiting for his best friend Will to arrive from New York, Garry has a lot of time to think when there is a major delay. With the help of two strange children ( and I mean strangers and odd), He comes to terms with his feelings.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place is a short sweet story. There are a few fun characters. (Who doesn't like adorable kids?) The story is funny too. I adored little Emily and laughed out-loud at her mixed up words. My only caveat was that once Will arrived the story suddenly ended. I would have liked the story to be longer and see them on their vacation and how things would develop more.

If you like sweet short stories, cute kids and happy endings you will like this.

GARRY SUSPECTED he knew what tipped psychotics over the edge.

It wasn’t childhood trauma or thwarted world domination. Far from it! It was the agony of a plastic bucket chair digging into the back of your legs in the middle of a chaotic Arrivals lounge. Add to that the robotic monotone of the Glasgow Airport PA system offering “apologies for the inconvenience caused to those customers awaiting incoming flights from the USA,” and it was like salt rubbed into a wound.

He slumped back in the seat, his arms folded tightly across his chest. He could feel the scowl on his face etching into the muscles. There was noise everywhere—booming announcements over the speakers and the incomprehensible swell of people’s excited chatter. Kids shrieked, and suitcases rattled over the threadbare carpet. Rolling neon signs flashed up reminders to boarding gates, constant alerts to keep your bags beside you at all times, and then—almost as an afterthought—the price of the latest, must-have mobile phone package.

Airport lounges had to be one of the least comfortable places on earth. He hunched down farther, trying to nap. Like it’d be possible in this maelstrom. Bad mood, or what? He’d been up since the crack of dawn, maybe even before. He couldn’t exactly remember the time, as over the years he’d found that lack of sleep caused him, one, serious memory problems, two, to leave the house in an unmatched pair of socks, and, three, the unmitigated loss of his sense of humour.

He was jolted back to attention as a man hauling a heavy suitcase let it run over Garry’s feet. With a cry of pain, Garry wrenched his long legs back under his seat, but not before the wheels had left neat little tramlines over his boots. His toes felt bruised, and his mood teetered further toward homicidal. Luckily the perpetrator had taken a sharp left and vanished into the direction of the car hire franchises, else his suitcase—and probably his limbs—might have been scattered to the four winds.

Garry winced. So much for keeping your luggage with you at all times.

So… what was currently on his agenda? A too-early start; a wickedly uncomfortable waiting area; a psychotic bunch of fellow passengers. The bad omens were already stacking up. He’d arrived at Glasgow Airport rather travel-worn from his own flight from London Heathrow, preparing to meet up with his friend Will somewhere in amongst this mess of humanity.

Then he’d been greeted with the worst of news—a delay.

Clare took the pen name London from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. The Vault of Dreamers Trilogy (Book 3) by Caragh M O'Brien Book Nerd Spotlight & #giveaway @CaraghMOBrien

Series: The Vault of Dreamers Trilogy (Book 3)
Hardcover: 400 pages
Publisher: Roaring Brook Press (August 29, 2017)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1596439424
ISBN-13: 978-1596439429

Praise for THE VAULT OF DREAMERS Series

“A sharp novel about the ways in which everyone can be manipulated, either through editing or one's own desire to go the easiest path.” ―BCCB

“Like O'Briens Birthmarked trilogy, this dystopian, sci-fi, psychological-thriller hybrid raises ethical and moral questions about science. This might have been a difficult story to pull off, given the environment, but with a likable narrator who is thoroughly unimpressed with herself, it works . . . this should have wide appeal.” ―Booklist

“Fans looking for a science fiction novel that is not heavy on the science fiction or who want something vaguely dystopian will enjoy this title.” ―VOYA

“A mixture of science fiction and contemporary fiction, this novel is an interesting addition to both genres.” ―School Library Journal

“A fast, satisfying psychological thriller . . . The sudden cliffhanger will polarize readers.” ―Kirkus Reviews

“Like viewers of The Forge Show, readers will want to keep watching Rosie.” ―Publishers Weekly

In the fast-paced, high-stakes conclusion to Caragh M. O'Brien's Vault of Dreamers trilogy, Rosie travels to a derelict theme park to shut down dream mining once and for all.

Driven by fear when Dean Berg kidnaps her family, Rosie Sinclair strikes out across the country to rescue them. When an elusive trail leads her to Grisly Valley, the contaminated ruin of a horror theme park, Rosie has to consider that Berg may once again be manipulating her every move to make her fearful, priming her for a final, lethal dream mining procedure. As Rosie struggles to outmaneuver Berg, she unearths the ultimate vault of dreamers and the hint of a consciousness more powerful and dangerous than any she's imagined before. Faced with unspeakable suffering and otherworldly beauty, Rosie must discover how to trust her mind, her friends, and reality itself.

Propulsive and deeply speculative, The Keep of Ages concludes the Vault of Dreamers trilogy with stirring possibilities for what it means to be alive.

Glamour Thieves by Don Allmon Virtual tour | Spotlight, Excerpt & #giveaway @RiptideBooks @dallmon

Howdy y'all. I'm Don Allmon and I got a debut book name of The Glamour Thieves. It’s the first of a three book series called The Blue Unicorn. It's a grim kind of fantasy, a cybernetic near-dystopia, a rough-edged romance with few promises except for the ones that matter. Ain't nothin' worth earnin' that wasn't hard won. Join in on the comments and win yourself some loot.

JT is an orc on the way up. He’s got his own boutique robotics shop, high-end clientele, and deep-pocketed investors. He’s even mentoring an orc teen who reminds him a bit too much of himself back in the day.

Then Austin shows up, and the elf’s got the same hard body and silver tongue as he did two years ago when they used to be friends and might have been more. He’s also got a stolen car to bribe JT to saying yes to one last scheme: stealing the virtual intelligence called Blue Unicorn.

Soon JT’s up to his tusks in trouble, and it ain’t just zombies and Chinese triads threatening to tear his new life apart. Austin wants a second chance with JT—this time as more than just a friend—and even the Blue Unicorn is trying to play matchmaker.

Kitchen, dining and living rooms were all the one room. On the dining table, Chinese takeout was unpacked, white boxes everywhere like blown-up origami. Austin had opened everything to make sure there was no meat in his, and he’d arranged the too-many packets of soy and duck sauce in letters: EAT ME.
He was on the couch, and the big-screen was going at the same time he had the VR glasses on. He absentmindedly worked chopsticks on vegetable lo mein. He didn’t even look at the damn box or have to readjust the sticks every minute like JT had to. He never dropped a bit of it or had to fish around to find something easy to pick up. That was his left hand.
His right hand flicked and twitched in the control glove, and Nazi zombies died.
“Are you cheating?” JT asked.
“I only cheat in real life, when it’s actually fun. The kid not eating?” He ate and killed zombies.
“Nah, she’s eating by herself tonight.” He’d set Dante up in a room over the printer lab when the kid had moved in, and Dante retreated there when she needed her space or JT needed his.
“Tonight? But doesn’t she eat with you usually?” Austin asked, implying something, but JT didn’t want to play games, so ignored him. JT speared orange chicken with his chopsticks. The container of rice sat untouched. Rice was elf food. “She could be useful,” Austin said. “Maybe—”
“Maybe nothing. I brought her here to give her a way out of that life, Austin, not a way in.”
Austin turned just a bit and slid the glasses down his nose (and still his hand flicked, and zombies died, and he didn’t), and ran his eyes up and down JT. “You make a cute daddy. I approve.”
“Fuck you. I’m just doing what I can.”
“You didn’t have to do anything,” He went back to his game and his food. “That’s what makes it cute.”
JT started in on the Szechuan chicken, upending the take-away box to his mouth and using the sticks to shovel the food in. He watched Austin play his game and eat.
“Shouldn’t we be planning this protection job?” JT asked.
“What’s to plan? We need to move Buzz from the place he’s holed up in San Fran to Tahoe and his rendezvous with 3djinn. The quieter, the better.”
“Route? Gear?”
“You’re the pilot. As far as gear, I’m bringing a bow, some arrows, and you. Really, JT, this isn’t a break-in. It’s just deliver-the-package. Except the package is Buzz. Pick a car; pick your drones; and we’re good to go.”
That was just too much blitheness, even for Austin. This was a triad they were messing with, not some street gang. Something was up.
“So what’s the story? Why’s the triad after Buzz?”
Austin shrugged. “He stole something.”
“Software?”
“Something. I don’t know. He calls me—”
“He’s got your contact info?” JT didn’t even have Austin’s contact info.
“It’s not that hard to find.” He gave JT a pointed flick of a glance. “If you wanted to find it. So he calls me and says he’s in trouble and needs to get out of town and over to Tahoe. He’d been working for the Electric Dragon Triad and found something, and, well, he might have taken it—”
“So he didn’t just steal from them, he betrayed them?”
“Suppose you could see it that way.”
“I can guaran-fuckin-tee you that’s how they’re seeing it.” The Electric Dragon was going to be excessive in their vengeance. But it was like Austin had said: they just needed to move Buzz quiet, not a shot fired. “So he never said what it was he took? Must have been something pretty damn amazing to throw your life away for it.”
“Must have been.” Austin stopped playing his game and took the VR glasses off. “Things like that exist, JT.”
“Like hell, they do. And you still don’t think we need a plan.”
“I got a plan. You.”

Survivor by TM Smith blog tour hosted by Enticing Journey | Spotlight, Playlist & #giveaway @EJBooksPromos @TTCBooksandmore

Title: Survivor
Author: T.M. Smith
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: August 22, 2017

Taylor Langford’s world is torn apart when he is only thirteen years old—his parents killed, leaving him alone and orphaned. With no living relatives, he’d certainly be another statistic if not for the intervention of the policeman who found Taylor in the crawl space where his mother hid him that fateful night. Despite the tragedy and resulting anguish in his life, Taylor knows how lucky he is.

Frank Moore is a rookie with the Dallas Police Department when he and his partner answer a call in Devonshire, one of the city’s more affluent neighborhoods. They think the young boy in various pictures throughout the home has been kidnapped until they find him, shaken but alive. Officer Moore recognizes the pain in the kid’s eyes, having lost his own mother to cancer when he was just a boy. He steps in, making sure Taylor is placed with a loving foster family. Over the years, Frank becomes a permanent fixture in Taylor’s life.

A decade later, the case remains unsolved and the once gangly, uncertain teenager is now a college graduate who knows exactly what he wants. He’s coming home to the man that helped mold and shape his life, the man he’s loved for as long as he can remember, Frank Moore. But Taylor isn’t the only person returning to Dallas, and while Frank is distracted by his own conflicting feelings and the new bond growing between the two, the past creeps up on them, determined to finish what was started ten years earlier.

A note from the author…

I hope you enjoy Frank and Taylor’s story. It’s been a long road to get them settled, but I’m happy with where this story has taken them. When I started this book, the intent was to write a stand-alone story, but that has changed. Characters continually evolve throughout the writing process, and there are several characters in the book that want to tell their story. I’ve grown especially fond of Rory and I can’t wait to write his book, which will take us back to when he first joined the Bureau, and continue on to his happy ever after.

Please be advised: This is a May/December romance, and as in life, there are sexual situations that take place prior to the main characters finding their way to one another. This is not gratuitous; it is meant to show character growth and self-realization. There is absolutely no cheating.

Prologue
Summer of Innocence, 1988

“WE SHOULDN’T be doing this,” Nelson Maitland whispered.
His best friend, Lucas Rollins—or Luke, as Nelson called him—lifted his head from where he had it buried in Nelson’s crotch and peeked out from beneath the covers. “Why not? It feels good, don’t it?”
Oh yeah, it felt good, fabulous. His entire body tingled, and he was an idiot for even considering they stop. Nevertheless, as good as it felt, Nelson couldn’t seem to stop worrying about getting caught. “What if your mom comes in?”
“She won’t.” Luke recovered his head and licked the tip of Nelson’s penis again.
Nelson released the death grip he had on his pillow and shoved the covers off Luke’s head. “Wait. How do you know she won’t? What about your dad? Your little brother?”
Luke huffed a breath and crawled up the bed. He lowered himself between Nelson’s legs, their naked bodies touching in all the right places. Naked! Oh geez, what if we are caught! How are we going to explain being naked! His heart started pounding so fast he thought for sure it would leap out of his chest.
“We’re not going to get caught. Now will you shut up? You talk too much.”
Nelson started to protest, but Luke pressed their lips together. It was clumsy and sloppy, especially after Luke pushed his tongue halfway down Nelson’s throat. But suddenly he didn’t care about anything except the way Luke was moving his body and their privates were rubbing together, and Nelson forgot all about Luke’s parents and kid brother.
It wasn’t until they were lying next to each other breathing hard and sticky that Nelson’s worry started gnawing at his gut again, but it was no longer Luke’s parents who created his unease.
“Luke?”
“Yeah,” Luke whispered in the now-dark room.
“Do you think Pastor Collins ever lies?”
“I don’t think he’s allowed to ’cause he’s a pastor.”
Nelson looked up, watching the shadows from the trees outside the window dance across the ceiling. He worried his bottom lip as he considered Luke’s answer. He supposed Luke was right. Pastor Collins was supposed to teach them about sin. It was against the rules of the Bible for pastors to sin, and that included lying. Luke’s belly flipped sickeningly. There had to be another explanation. “Do you think maybe he doesn’t know everything about the Bible or sometimes preaches from a different book?”
“I don’t know. Why the sudden interest in the Bible?”
“I was just thinking of something he said in church the other day. You know about sinners. Do you think we made God mad?”
“For what?”
“For what we just did,” Nelson explained. He was unable to put a name to it. Sure, he knew all about the birds and the bees, but they were boys. Nothing he’d heard or read said anything about two boys being together. All his friends were chasing after the girls, and here he…. Well, maybe Pastor Collins was right. Maybe what they were doing was unnatural.
“I don’t think so. We were just playing around, Nelson.” Luke yawned and rolled over, pulling the covers up. “Now will you go to sleep?”
“I know, but—”
“Pastor Collins was talking about sodomites, Nelson. We ain’t them. Besides, it’s not like anyone will ever find out. We’re going to be best friends and roommates forever, right?”
“Oh yeah,” Nelson responded, feeling better. They’d promised each other they were going to join the rodeo and see the world.
“Now stop worrying and go to sleep.”
“Night, Brobdingnagian.”
“Night, Runt.”
He and Luke didn’t have to worry about what Pastor Collins said because they weren’t going to lie together as a man would with a woman. There would be no women or marriage in their lives. Nelson smiled as he drifted off to sleep. It was going to be him and Luke against the world forever.
