The Last Thing He Needs written by J.H. Knight narrated by Michael Stellman | Tams Audiobook Review & #giveaway @Dreamspinners

Tommy O'Shea is raising his seven younger brothers and sisters without any help from his drug-abusing father and stepmother. Since he was 15 years old, he's managed to keep the children fed and out of foster care. It takes up every ounce of his energy, and the last thing he needs is romance complicating his life further.

Rookie cop Bobby McAlister doesn't belong in Tommy's harsh world, but Tommy can't push him out. As their unlikely friendship turns into a tentative relationship, they weather the daily storm of Tommy's life with a lot of laughs and more than a few arguments.
Tommy isn't used to trusting outsiders, and he's never asked for help in his life. But when a tragedy strikes the O'Shea family and threatens everything he's fought for, he'll have to learn to do both to recover from the brutal hit.

Tams eBook review August 2014

At just twenty something years old, Tommy O’Shea is the primary caretaker for his seven younger siblings. His father is a drunk, his stepmonster an addict, so much so that they steal from the own children in order to feed their habits. Tommy and the next oldest Colleen work multiple jobs just to keep food on the table and the lights on. It’s second nature to Tommy to take care of his brother’s and sister’s. He’s determined to keep them together and out of foster care, and he’ll seriously injure anyone that thinks otherwise.

Tommy has known Officer Bobby McAlister since they were kids, and now that they are older, Bobby has become a guardian angel of sorts. He’s kept Tommy out of jail on more than one occasion, and now he’s stepping up and helping Tommy at home with the kids as well. As much as Tommy wants more from the blonde haired young cop, he doesn’t want to expose Bobby to the harsh reality that is his world. And he’s not even certain that Bobby is gay. A chance meeting at a gay bar answers that question, and sets in motion a series of events that will change the O’Shea families lives forever.

Bobby is as determined to be a part of Tommy’s life as Tommy is to run him off. The two fight and argue and say hurtful things in the heat of the moment. But Bobby never gives up on Tommy or the kids. While their arguments made my teeth grate at times, there was a comical madness to them as well that rooted them in reality. The way they loved just as fiercely as they fought painted them as three dimensional characters giving them more depth. And I loved that they could just kiss each other for hours. Every time they kissed, it was like they kissed each other a different way, I liked that variety from the author.

This book was a beautiful tragedy full of emotional ups and downs. My heart broke for Tommy and what he had to go through to try and keep his family together. For those kids who were saddled with the most disgusting and worthless parents, I mean who tries to steal their one year old twins Christmas presents so they can sell them for drugs?! For Bobby and Tommy and the toll it took on them both as a couple and as individuals. But I loved watching their relationship slowly unfold, from friends to lovers to a family. And it all progressed over time, it didn’t happen overnight. Tommy was recklessly determined to spend his life alone, the martyr that gave it all up to raise those kids. Sometimes though, you really can have it all, or at least all that you are meant to have.

Fans of real world stories and my fellow hopeless romantics are going to love this one. Add to that the snarky sense of humor these two guys have and that makes this a must read dramady!

Tams Audiobook review January 2018

It's always a joy to listen to a book I've read and feel like it's a whole new story. This book has always been a favorite for me, I've read it multiple times, and I'll likely listen to the audio more than once as well. Micheal Stellman is young and vibrant and he brings that vibrancy to the stories he reads. His tones and nuances are subtle enough that they flow well within the story, but you always know when it's a different character.

This is a book you want in your library, it will break your heart and then slowly put the pieces back together with duct tape and bailing wire. At the end of the day it may be mixmatched but it's love none the less.

Coffee addict, fledgling author, and unpaid chauffeur. J.H. Knight has been writing love stories since the second grade. When she’s not catering to the whims of her imaginary friends (whom she sometimes refers to as “characters”), she’s usually found driving her four children all over the planet, working on a school project, or saying things like “Not until your homework is done!” A Pacific Northwest native, she loves the outdoors in every season whether she’s in the city, in the mountains, or building sloppy sandcastles with her kids on the beach. On her best days, she’s cuddled up with a good book, and on her worst days she’s tearing her hair out as she tries to decide if her sentence needs a comma or a semi-colon. She gratefully bows down in awe of editors, since she usually gets it wrong.

"Great coming of age story"
Kyle finds himself on a farm for the summer as part of a work program after getting into trouble with the law, again. Not that he's a punk mind you, he's just a teenager doing teenager things. He welcomes the respite from his abusive step father that much is for sure. It takes time and patience, but slowly Kyle comes out of his shell and comes to appreciate his life on the farm, especially the part of his life that involves Sam, the farm owners son. So much can change over one summer, but can Sam convince Kyle to take a chance on him... on them?

I absolutely LOVE this narrator. He is so damn good at what he does, he could recite the phone book and I'd be on the edge of my seat, listening with bated breath. Add to his spectacular vocal cords such an amazing story and what you have is a book you simply must listen to. This book is all about Kyle and Sam, about Kyle finally having the freedom and ability to consider what he wants out of life. A place for him to call home where he is truly loved, wanted and respected. It's a story of first love, true love, romance and everything that goes along with it.

Story
One night leaving his coffee shop Riley finds his life changed in ways he never dreamed. Chased by demons and rescued by tiger shifters he finds himself mated to Khalon the king. But Khalon is not happy with the priestess choice and decides its best to return Riley to her and have the mark removed so he can get the right mate.

Riley is a quirky, funny man. I fell in love instantly with his humor and how he stood up to Khalon when everyone else was cowering to him.Khalon is a strong protector but pretty full of himself until Riley shows up.

I loved this story. It is a great set-up to a new series. There are some great characters, the plot was intriguing and the world amazing. But what do you expect from Charlie Cochet but another awesome book!

This was my first book narrated by Manuel Ponto. I think he was a perfect choice. I could see his voice with the man on the cover of the book. He had a great accent for Khalon and was able to drop it enough to give Riley a unique voice as well.
I am looking forward to more of this series.

Bringing you stories with heroes, humor, and heart.

  • Riley Parker: temp, twink, geek... sleuth?

Maybe Riley isn't living up to his full potential, but being a temp executive assistant suits him. He's never bored at work, he's got friends who let him geek out, and he's got a carefully crafted twink exterior... which might be getting constrictive now that he's on the other side of 30. Life isn't perfect, but it's comfortable.
It all unravels when he takes a job working for a tea-obsessed cosmetics queen, the owner of Gautier Cosmetics. During the launch party for a new product, Riley finds his boss dead under suspicious circumstances, and the homicide detective is none other than Tadeo Martin, Riley's high school obsession who never knew he was alive.
Tad drafts Riley to get the scoop on the inner workings of Gautier, and for Riley, it's like a drug. His natural inquisitiveness is rewarded with more and more Tad. Unfortunately, his snooping puts him in the running for two other roles: suspect and victim. The killer doesn't care which.

    Story
I love this cover. I can see this as Riley.
Tea or Consequences is a great who-dun-it mystery with many characters to choose from. Riley is a temp assistant to a busy corporate woman. She has two children a son and daughter both working in the company, There is a receptionist that becomes his friend and a secret younger husband.

The investigating officer happens to turn out to be Riley's first crush, Tad. Riley helps to find the real killer and clear his name putting himself in danger.
There are so many twists and turns here and the story is fast paced keeping you wanting to turn the page or in my case listen till it's over as I did.

Darcy Stark is a new to me narrator but won't be a stranger. I loved his mellow voice, the pacing was fabulous and he had distinct voices for most of the characters.

Story
This is the third book of the series and you do need to read them in order as each picks up where the other left off. High fantasy isn’t one of my favorite genres though I love a good well-written one from time to time especially if the subject is myths. This an absolutely amazing take on merfolk.

In this book we find everyone reeling from the battle that left them aboard the Chimera with Odhran and the Sea Witch sunken and destroyed. (I won’t tell you how since that is a spoiler). Odhran spots something in the water. After their investigation, they find a winged child in a hot cocoon and take him aboard. The island brings back memories for Odhran and Ian and they build stronger friendship and trust. The winged boy sticks to Odhran and grows at a fast rate. They meet the king and find it quite different than they thought and they also found the colony they were searching for deserted. Weary and after more battles, they head back to the mainland to figure out their next move.

Again we have a very intriguing story. There is lots of emotion and character growth as each man gains their power and learns to use it. You will need tissues! I loved how Shira practically paints a picture of the scenery with words. The sights and smells and tastes are so real. I fell in love with each character and ached with their aches.

If you like a good High-fantasy, Mermen, friendships, soulmates, a very good romance, a touch of sadness yet a happy ending this is for you!

The narration is beautiful and captivating and adds even more to a fantastic story.

Shira Anthony was a professional opera singer in her last incarnation, performing roles in such operas as Tosca, i Pagliacci, and La Traviata, among others. She’s given up TV for evenings spent with her laptop, and she never goes anywhere without a pile of unread M/M romance on her Kindle. You can hear Shira singing "Vissi d'arte" from Puccini's Tosca by clicking here: Shira's Singing
Shira loves a great happily-ever-after and never writes a story without one. She's happy to write what her muse tells her, whether it's fantasy, sci fi, paranormal, or contemporary romance. She particularly loves writing series, because she thinks of her characters as old friends and she wants to visit them even after their stories are told.
In real life, Shira sang professionally for 14 years, and she currently works as a public sector attorney advocating for children. She's happy to have made writing her second full-time job, even if it means she rarely has time to watch TV or go to the movies. Shira writes about the things she knows and loves, whether it's music and musicians, the ocean, or the places she's lived or traveled to. She spent her middle school years living in France, and tries to visit as often as she can.
Shira and her husband spend as many weekends as they can aboard their 36' catamaran sailboat, Land's Zen, at the Carolina Coast. Not only has sailing inspired her to write about pirates and mermen, her sailboat is her favorite place to write. And although the only mermen she's found to date are in her own imagination, she keeps a sharp lookout for them when she's on the water.
