Q*Pid Written By: Xavier Mayne Narrated by: Rudy Sanda | Cat's Audiobook Review & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @XavierMayne @TTCBooksandmore

Q*Pid

Archer, the AI at the dating service Q*pid, realizes humans don't always make the best choices, so it begins making some unconventional choices for them.

Fox Kincade is the last of his group of friends to be single, so he's delighted when he discovers a new match in his Q*pid app - one that, according to the new AI wizardry, should be the love of his life. Instead of the woman he's expecting, he's paired with Drew Larsen, a shy, somewhat nerdy PhD student who has also grown discouraged with romance.

Drew and Fox have little in common - aside from the fact that they're both straight. Or so they thought. But as the guys get to know each other, they realize Archer might have the right idea. Their path isn't smooth, because both need to overcome every idea they have about themselves and what true love might look like. But with the help of Archer - and some friends who have stuck with Fox and Drew through the thick and thin of their relationship trials - they might find their way into each other's hearts.

I will admit this started slow. I was tempted to not finish but I did like the concept and Archer and his quirky neighbor lady. Fox finally grew on me as the story progressed.
There are some really cool characters in this book. Fox has a friend that wants updates on his sex life, and his wife usually is right there for the video chat. She is intrigued when the guy shows up and Fox agrees to meet for a drink then they continue meeting as friends.
Archer is a real sweetheart and I adored his elderly tenant and how he always had her favorite imported sausages "just laying around needing cooked" I liked that he was open when he male match came and he took the chance to reach out if not anything but for a friend and out of curiosity as to why the machine matched him with a man.
I also liked the Machine itself as a character. I would have liked a little more on it, but I guess the match and romance did need to be up front. The story is extremely well written, intriguing and fun.
The narrator Rudy Sanda was new to me. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about the narration. I did not like Fox's voice at all. I think maybe if Fox and his friend's voice was switched it may have worked more for me. The pacing was good though and all in all, once the story picked up so did the narration.
If you like Gay For You you get a double whammy as it's Gay for You for both characters. It is a good slow burn as well, and lots of humor.

By day I work as a writer for a large tech firm in the US Pacific Northwest. By night I'm the author of the Brandt & Donnelly Capers series, as well as standalone works such as Husband Material and The Accidental Cupid. I like to write about men who've always considered themselves straight falling in love with another man. Oh, and I like readers to laugh, not cry. You can now count me among the refugees from academia. I was a professor at a public university in the American midwest for a decade before returning to the high-tech industry. Tenure was nice, but so is getting a paycheck that actually pays the bills! I miss teaching, which is why you'll find vocabulary in my works that you won't find in most romance novels (crenelated! gantlet! obstreperous!) because if you can expand minds while exciting the senses, why not?

Fox and Wolf is the set up of a new series Apex Investigations.

Dylan is a wolf shifter, ex-cop, and PI at Apex Investigations.  Rey is a fox shifter that finds himself in trouble and hires Apex to help him.

There are a lot of cool characters in this story as we are getting the build-up for the series. There are mountain lions, bears, werewolves foxes and other neat shifters. on the Bad side, we had crocodile and tiger shifters. I loved the evil croc shifters and could almost smell them the way Julia kept describing and bringing them on the page.

The storyline was ok but I found the actual mystery fell a bit short. I never quite got the connection of the victim and the bad guy but... having said that. I loved the characters, the action was good, and the ending explosive (literally and satisfying) and I am looking forward to many more books in this series eagerly!

Excerpt...

THE MINUTE the fox walked in his door, Mick Hartness knew he was going to be trouble. The guy was a ginger, after all, and they were always, always full of surprises, and not the good kind. This client wasn’t going to be a “here’s chocolates and flowers” kind of shocker. No, he was going to be “hey, I’m a serial killer.” That was the way of things for a private investigator, though. When you worked for other shifters, you never knew what you’d get.
Mick stood, holding out a hand to shake. “Mr. Mercier. Pleasure. Please, have a seat and tell me what I can do for you.” He had an idea, because his assistant, Carrie, usually got a few details, but Apex Investigations Inc. was ever discreet. He only got detail in person.
The shake was firm, but the little man’s hand was sweaty, and the look in the copper eyes was worried. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Hartness. You come highly recommended.”
“Thank you.” They settled, and Mick waited for the knock on the door. Carrie always offered drinks and snacks, so there was no sense in starting before she did.
The tap was gentle; then his favorite she-wolf on the face of the earth came in. “Can I get anyone anything? Coffee? Water?”
“Can I please have a cup of coffee, ma’am?” Oh, Mercier was polite and jittery. Nice.
“Of course. Cream or sugar?” She smiled gently. Carrie was all maternal instinct.
“Black is fine. Thank you, ma’am.”
“Mick?”
“The usual.” He took his with cream and half a dozen sugars. And with cookies. Peanut butter. He needed his energy.
“I’m on it.” She let herself out, closing the door behind her.
Mercier stared at him, so Mick cleared his throat. “So, I understand you’re under some sort of threat? Can you give me some idea what we’re dealing with?”
“I’m an information broker. I sell what I know. It’s weirdly like what you all do, right?”
“Right. I guess that can be a hazardous profession, just like mine.” Mick smiled, humoring the guy.
“Exactly. I was hired to retrieve a file from a corporation for an individual and, somehow, I’ve fallen into a bit of trouble.” Mr. Mercier’s face took on a strained expression.
“What kind of trouble? A vague description here is no one’s friend.”
“To be honest, I’m not exactly sure. After the file—a quite physical one, mind you—was delivered, I began to receive emails begging me to come pick it up from my client. I agreed, and when I went to get the papers to replace them?” Mercier shuddered. “She was dead. Drowned in her pool.”
“So, someone killed your client for, what? The files you got for her?”
“No. No, the files she’d requested were her own HR record. What could have been in those files worth killing for?”
“Huh.” Mick sat back, steepling his fingers under his chin. “You found her?”
“Yes.” The fox went pale as milk. “She was frantic. I read those files. There was nothing in there. Nothing of importance.”
“Okay. So what happened then?” He didn’t have to take notes. He had a great memory. Really great. Anything Rey Mercier told him would be stored away in his very own hard drive.
“I ran. I went home. Then the phone calls started, the texts, the emails, threatening me if I didn’t return the files. I don’t have them.”
“You had returned them from your client’s house, yes?” Something wasn’t adding up here. What would be so important in an HR file to kill someone over?
“No. No, I returned them to the corporation, by the way.”
Mick shook his head, confused. “Okay. Let me see if I have this straight. Your client asked you to get her HR files from a company she had previously or did now work for. You gave them to her, and she began getting calls and threats. So she called, asked you to take them back to the company. When you came to do that, she was dead?”
“I returned the files as soon as I could. I didn’t really know what to do, since she was dead.”
“Why paper?” Mick asked. No one was solely paper anymore. It was foolish, ridiculous. Utterly silly.
“The company didn’t give me an option. I think they were manipulating data but didn’t want any trail. I don’t know why they couldn’t send a PDF or something, but this was a weird legal situation, which was why I was called in as a secure courier, which is also a service I provide.”
“Like handcuffing a briefcase to your wrist?”
“Exactly so.”
Mick wasn’t sure why someone would hire this little man for something that required security. He didn’t seem the type.

Warren's Peace was a good story about older men starting new relationships.

Warren's friends and family get him tickets for a singles cruise. He has reservations, not dating since his wife died two years prior and had cancer two years before that. His kids are grown and want him to have a life of his own. He isn't sure since he dated men before Sarah and his tastes lean towards men and he isn't sure how to tell his children. On the flight to the cruise, he meets fetcher a sexy businessman.

Fletcher is a mystery shopper for vacations and hotels. He doesn't like flying and the nice man beside him relaxes him on the take-off and landing. he was in for a surprise when he meets Warren on the cruise he is working on.

I liked both Warren and Fletcher. The characters are interesting and relateable. I also loved warren's kids. The story is interesting and realistic. It is a good, heartwarming holiday story.

Home and Heart by Sean Michael | Cat's Review, Excerpt & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @seanmichael09 @TTCBooksandmore

Is it possible to find the heart’s home twice in a lifetime?

Six years ago, Sawyer Burroughs’s life fell apart. His soul mate and husband of four years died of cancer, and he fell into depression… and a bottle. It’s taken six years, but he’s turned his life around and is ready to start again on the other side of the country.

In his new apartment, he’s welcomed by his young and carefree neighbor, Derek, from across the hall. Derek is eager to make Sawyer feel welcome and even offers him a place to stay when Sawyer arrives ahead of his furniture.

The upstairs neighbors are just as friendly, and soon Sawyer finds a place with the friends-with-benefits threesome. He’s not the shy, vanilla lover they think he is, though, and he’s hiding more than a pair of nipple rings. As it happens, the guys have kinky secrets of their own, but for four men to make a BDSM relationship last, they’ll have to figure some things out.

Sawyer lost his husband to cancer 6 years ago. He fell into drinking and finally pulled his life together. Now being clean he chose to sell everything and move cross country into an apartment that has 4 other tenants. He finds them friendly. Friends with benefits friendly. Derek his across the hall neighbor wastes no time in welcoming him.

I knew this one was going to be sexy by the blurb and reading lots by this author I expected lots of explicit sex scenes. That was delivered. I would have liked more story. The book was good, very sexy, but just wasn’t what I was expecting from the blurb.

If you like lots of sex, starting life fresh, BDSM, threesones, foursomes, May/December and a good romance this is for you. Just go in expecting lots of sex from the get go.

Excerpt...

SAWYER OPENED the door to his new place and stared around at the empty space. He’d rented the place sight unseen, and he had to admit it looked small without any furniture. Even with furniture it was going to be smaller than the house back… the old house. He took a deep breath.

Okay. Okay, this was going to be home now. He’d sold everything he didn’t need, he’d sold the house, and he’d packed up his SUV and moved across country to Halifax.
A new house. A new start. A new life.
He wasn’t going to cry. He wasn’t. He was a grown man with cash and a good freelance job writing for catalogs with a side gig of writing greeting cards. Change was good. Scary, but good. Right? Right. He took another deep breath and squared his shoulders.
Sawyer opened the windows to let the air in; then he went to explore—he had a nice living area, an eat-in kitchen that was plenty big enough to cook in, a master, and a tiny second bedroom for an office. The leasing agent said it was the smallest apartment of the four, but it suited him, and the price was reasonable.
The building was an old house converted into four apartments. The bones of the place were lovely. He just hoped the other tenants didn’t throw too many loud parties. Gosh, that was such an old-man thing to think, wasn’t it?
Of course, he was a widower, a recovering alcoholic, and a bit of a hermit. Which made him sound ancient. But it was the mileage not the years, wasn’t it?
He supposed he should do something about getting the stuff in his van into the apartment. At least a chair so he had somewhere to sit. He had a couple of lawn chairs, a foldout cot, his laptop, his books, and his kitchen stuff with him. The rest he was going to have to buy. Now that he was here without anything, it was tempting to second-guess the decision to sell everything, but his reasoning had been sound. He was starting anew, and that included leaving behind the things he’d shared with James and actually starting fresh.
A knock sounded at the door, startling him out of his thoughts.

After Andrew’s boyfriend dumps him just before Christmas, he decides to take a job far, far away from city life. It’s a dishwashing job on a remote island off the coast of Georgia. Expecting sunshine, palm trees, and some quality alone time, Andrew is surprised to find alligators, mosquitoes, rattlesnakes, and Garrett—a devilishly handsome naturalist. Andrew desperately tries to resist Garrett’s charm, because a twice-broken heart before Christmas is just not an option. Besides Andrew’s new friend Anna might already have a thing for Garrett.

But where do Garrett’s interests lie, and will Andrew find out before he’s surprised by a visit from his ex?

Andrew signed up for an island resort job to get over his break up with his ex Ace.  The more he thinks about it the more he sees that the two years he thought he was in love was probably not. He makes friends quickly with the staff especially Garrett and Anna. He soon finds out Garrett is also gay and interested as well.  Even though the island is remote and mosquito infested he enjoys the company and the work. But a twist comes that could ruin everything, his job and his new relationship with Garrett.

I really liked this story a lot.  It has a lot going on.  Not only a romance but a touch of suspense and drama. It is a very engaging, holiday story.

Single dad Mario, twenty-one, has finally won shared custody of his five-year-old son, Sammy. They’re spending Christmas at a Tenerife resort to celebrate. The children’s swimming instructor, Josie, is sexy and fun, and Mario can’t stop dreaming about him. But Mario has no clue how to talk to a hot guy.

With his suntan, Speedos, and rippling abs, Josie seems to be the typical jock. He’s super sweet too, and everyone loves him. But he only has eyes for the fire-eyed little dad who looks like his son’s older brother and won’t stop policing the swimming class.

Sammy would like to be a king in the hotel’s nativity play. But he’s too afraid to go anywhere without his dad. Mario would like a holiday romance with Josie, or even a little more, but between building his tech company and trying to do his part as Sammy’s father he has missed out on a lot and is too inexperienced to know where to begin.

Luckily Santa might have just the thing for everyone on his list….

Mario is a very young father that just got his share of custody of his son Sammy. He and his ex are amicable, they were just too young when they had Sammy. Mario is determined to prove he is a good father and provider. he works hard at his software company and is in the position to give Sammy a nice beach vacation for Christmas. It is turning out to not be what he had in mind for either him or Sammy.

My heart went out to Mario as we learned about his predicament and saw how shy he is. He knows he is gay but has never experienced being with a man. He is very taken with the swim instructor Mario as is every woman on the beach.

I did like watching both Mario and Sammy come out of their shells and the characters grow. My issue was the romance happens at the very end of the story and didn't grow with the characters. I would have loved more interaction with Josie between Mario and Sammy as well. but the story does have a very satisfying ending.

The first man Crystel fell in love with was Beauty's Beast. Next came Robin Hood, then Mr. Darcy.

Two decades of married life later, she still loves fictional men - especially when there are two of them who are meant to be!
She likes it best when she can create their plights and fights herself, and she can always be counted on to throw in some sizzling hotness and a lot of feels.
Here's her author promise: no fade-outs when things get steamy or emotional, and an ending that will leave you smiling.

Crystel is a lawyer by training, a lover of pastry, and a believer in Happy Ever Afters. Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, and a North Sea girl at heart, she lives in the beautiful Austrian Alps with her big, noisy family.
