RED DECEPTION by Gary Grossman and Ed Fuller NERD BLAST & #giveaway @JeanBookNerd @GaryGrossman1 @AuthorEdFuller @TTCBooksandmore

ASIN : B08TRQPG7G
Publisher : Beaufort Books (June 22, 2021)
Publication date : June 22, 2021
Language : English

Praise for RED DECEPTION

"Forget 'ripped from the headlines,' because RED DECEPTION threatens to write its own! RED DECEPTION is everything a great thriller is supposed to be! High stakes, incredible action scenes, a deadly plot, and a dynamic hero in Dan Reilly. Gary Grossman and Ed Fuller have crafted a relentlessly riveting tale that hones in on our greatest fears and takes us right to the brink in breathless fashion." —Jon Land, USA Today best-selling author

“RED DECEPTION provides an in-depth and realistic ground level view of the type of asymmetric Nation-state sponsored threats faced by the Agencies tasked with protecting the United States both domestically and abroad. Thoroughly researched with thrilling pacing, it follows a worst case scenario with the resulting fallout and a complex investigation that unfolds all over the Globe.” —Edward Bradstreet, Special Agent, Department of Homeland Security Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)

“Besides keeping us on the edge of our seats, RED DECEPTION is so prescient, filled with deep insights into the real worlds of espionage and politics, while giving us a window that sheds light onto the darkest aspects of political intrigue and human nature.” —Barry Kibrick, Host of national PBS series, Between the Lines

Intelligence experts and thriller authors concur: Red Deception is “A page-turner by authors who might as well sit on the National Security Council.”

When terrorists bomb bridges across the country and threaten the Hoover Dam, the vulnerability of America's infrastructure becomes a matter of national security. But Dan Reilly, a former Army intelligence officer, predicted the attacks in a secret State Department report written years earlier—a virtual blueprint for disaster, somehow leaked and now in the hands of foreign operatives.

With Washington distracted by domestic crises, Russian President Nicolai Gorshkov sends troops to the borders of Ukraine and Latvia, ready to reclaim what he feels is Russia's rightful territory. Tensions in Europe threaten to boil over as a besieged American president balances multiple crises that threaten to upend the geopolitical order.

This is the chaos into which Reilly leaps headfirst. Reilly's position as Global Head of Security for the Kensington Royal Hotel Corporation means he must keep his customers and staff safe as the crisis envelopes countries across three continents. His past as a State Department analyst means he recognizes the connections behind the seemingly disparate terror attacks, assassination plots, and authoritarian power plays that dominate the headlines. But it's the very knowledge that makes him good at his job that also makes him a target—to the press, to the government, and to the forces gathering for another assault on America.

Follow Reilly as he travels the world to safeguard both his company's assets and his country's secrets. With the US at the mercy of an egomaniacal leader, and reporters and covert agents on his tail, he may be the one man who can connect the dots before an even bigger catastrophe unfolds.

RED DECEPTION is the second book in the RED Hotel series.

Mr. NOT Nice Guy by Katherine Evans Book tour with Cat's Review & #giveaway @EJBookPromos @EJBookPromos @romancebykle @TTCBooksandmore

Title: Mr. Not Nice Guy
Author: Katherine L. Evans
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 5, 2021
Cover Design: R.L. Cover Designs

Nice guys finish last, but not this time…

I'm angry and ticked off. Period. End of story.

Well, that's not entirely true. It's the start of the story, actually.

I'm August Hawkins, and I'm the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

But right now, I'm cranky and sick of being "Mr. Nice Guy," especially working for a record label that's run by my ex-girlfriend and her new fiancé. And that's not even the worst of it. The label signs a sultry, sexy, and shameless singer, and they want me to manage her.

Perfect plan, right? No chance. This mischievous singer just so happens to be the same irresistible woman I spent one night with on my first night in New Orleans. And now Scarlett, the sex-pot-jazz crooner, isn't playing nice with her seductive ways and tantalizing body.

She knows I'm too nice to play dirty, but it's all I want. Some way, somehow, I need to cure this Scarlett fever.

Cat gives this 4 Meows with a 3 Purr heat index...

Have you ever picked up a book, started reading and was happily surprised by just how good it is right away. So good you didn’t want to put down? This was that book for me.

I love a good anti hero, and August is purfect! He is grumpy and sexy.
Scarlett is a great female lead, she wins your heart from the beginning.

I really wish I had read the other books first but it didn’t hurt a lot. I will remedy that situation and be waiting for Lucky.

"A breath of fresh air." -- Goodreads review ★★★★★
"Hysterical banter and off-the-charts sexual tension." -- Goodreads review ★★★★★
"What a fun, sexy twist on the bully romance plot! I loved it!" -- Goodreads review ★★★★★

APOCALYPSE SEVEN by Gene Doucette Official Blog Tour Spotlight, Guest post & #giveaway @JeanBookNerd @genedoucette @TTCBooksandmore

ASIN : B08B3NP4LJ
Publisher : John Joseph Adams/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (May 25, 2021)
Publication date : May 25, 2021
Language : English
File size : 6971 KB

Praise for THE APOCALYPSE SEVEN

“Doucette’s ’seven’ aren’t just 'magnificent'—they're also entertaining as hell.” —Scott Sigler, New York Times bestselling author of the Infected Trilogy

"The adventure I've been looking for! Never once did I know what to expect, and I loved being proved wrong at every turn. Far more mind-bending than a book this fun has any right to be." —Zack Jordan, author of The Last Human

“[A] riveting postapocalyptic outing… Doucette’s vibrant prose and unique premise make for an enticing adventure.” —Publishers Weekly

“A cinematic, speculative exercise in which a ragtag band saves the world, kind of.” —Kirkus Reviews

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whatever.

The whateverpocalypse. That’s what TourĂ©, a twenty-something Cambridge coder, calls it after waking up one morning to find himself seemingly the only person left in the city. Once he finds Robbie and Carol, two equally disoriented Harvard freshmen, he realizes he isn’t alone, but the name sticks: Whateverpocalypse. But it doesn’t explain where everyone went. It doesn’t explain how the city became overgrown with vegetation in the space of a night. Or how wild animals with no fear of humans came to roam the streets.

Add freakish weather to the mix, swings of temperature that spawn tornadoes one minute and snowstorms the next, and it seems things can’t get much weirder. Yet even as a handful of new survivors appear—Paul, a preacher as quick with a gun as a Bible verse; Win, a young professional with a horse; Bethany, a thirteen-year-old juvenile delinquent; and Ananda, an MIT astrophysics adjunct—life in Cambridge, Massachusetts gets stranger and stranger.

The self-styled Apocalypse Seven are tired of questions with no answers. Tired of being hunted by things seen and unseen. Now, armed with curiosity, desperation, a shotgun, and a bow, they become the hunters. And that’s when things truly get weird.

Author guest post...

Ten facts about THE APOCALYPSE SEVEN

10: Technically, there are eight of them.

9: So far, everyone’s favorite character hasn’t been one of the seven (or eight). It’s been a horse.

8: I initially built my seven characters—and their skillsets—off of D&D classes.

7: Speaking of D&D, MIT really does have a dungeon level.

6: Coywolves are a real thing too, but I made them larger for the book.

5: This will probably seem like a book written during a pandemic, considering I live in Cambridge and we just spent a year where imagining there was nobody else outside but you required almost no imagination. But I wrote it in 2019.

4: I did edit it in 2020, however. One evening I walked past a dormitory that’s featured in the book and realized I gave it too many floors, so I had to make a last minute change during the copy edits that probably aggravated the publisher.

3: It’s possible the most daring aspect of this book is, “What if there was an apocalypse and all the survivors basically got along okay with each other?”

2: I was ready to ride with this story never explaining what caused the end of the world and was halfway through the book before an answer occurred to me.

1: There’s a metaphoric component to the big reveal at the end that I may have made too subtle; I don’t think anybody’s picked up on it yet.

Cat's Audiobook Review of Through the Last Door (Sacred Guardian book 1) Written by J.A. Jaken Narrated by Dan Calley @jajakenfiction @TTCBooksandmore

Through the Last Door (Audiobook)

Series: Sacred Guardian #1

Author: J.A. Jaken

Genre: m/m romance, fantasy, adventure

Length: 13 hours 37 minutes (134,000 words)

Narrator: Dan Calley

When Kaori Sansa's father dies, he is forced to return home to claim the throne as the rightful heir of the country of Kazure. In the aftermath of his father's death, he learns that the country he loves is riddled with corruption, and is hovering on the brink of war. Will he be able to hold the kingdom together despite the odds that are stacked against it, and somehow unlock the buried powers of Shinja, the Sacred Beast of Kazure?

Cat gives this 5 Meows overall...

This was a very slow burn with all sex closed doors when it happened. Very sweet and sigh worthy. Made me swoon! Now to my review.

This is a high fantasy with lots of action, devious plots to take over the kingdoms, spies, monster ant creatures and savior snakes. Sound good? Wait. Throw in hot body guards, slow burn romance and it’s even better.

The narration just brought the characters to life, made the story stand out and really bring forth the action. The story is long so it was nice to be able to listen while doing mundane tasks and have all this to enjoy hands free. I highly recommend the audio if you can afford it.

Excerpt:

"You really should try to eat something, High Lord," Ishaya said.

Kaori closed his eyes. The smell of the food--while undoubtedly well-prepared and mouth-watering--was making him feel ill. But if he hadn't eaten all day, then neither had Hunter. And Hunter would not eat before he did; not out of a misguided overabundance of fealty, but because he was as much of a mother hen as Ishaya was.

Reluctantly, he selected a plate of light crackers and cheeses, adding a pile of thin-sliced veal at Haku's insistence. The food clung to his throat when he tried to swallow, without any taste at all. He nodded gratefully when Haku handed him a cup of spiced wine to wash it down with.

"You, too," he said, frowning in Hunter's direction. "Don't tell me you aren't hungry."

Hunter made no move to accept the offer. "I want to be sure you have enough to eat first," he said. "You need--"

"There's more than enough here to feed all of us if we want it, and half the grounds staff besides. Eat, damn you."

A small smile touched Hunter's face as he slid down to sit at Kaori's other side and reached for a plate, piling it high with sliced veal and fruit. "If you insist." There was an ironic twist to the words.

The familiar byplay made something inside Kaori's chest loosen. Hunter, at least, wasn't treating him any differently because his father had died. Taking comfort from the shoulder brushing so warmly against his, he finally found the courage to look up and meet Ishaya's eyes.

"There are probably things I need to know," he said. The words felt heavy in his mouth. "Affairs of state, or... something." He felt lost.

Ishaya smiled kindly at him. "There's no need for you to worry about that tonight, High Lord." His eyes were soft. "Rest assured that all is running as it should within your kingdom. For tonight, at least, you have no responsibilities other than spending time with your friend."

"I'd like to hear about that university in Gyre," Haku said, selecting a grape from the platter and taking a slow bite from it. "What was it like, living over there? Was it horrible?"

"No, it wasn't horrible at all. Gyre is really a wonderful place. Let me tell you about the campus where I was living...." Kaori was glad for the delay in having to face his new reality for that much longer. He felt more relaxed now as he talked about the country he had spent the past three years visiting, the things he'd learned there, the culture, the language, the people. In return, Haku told him about the trials he'd passed in order to become a member of the Palace Guard, and some of the campaigns he'd been on. Kaori was unsettled to realize that his friend had significant battle experience now, and had even killed on occasion, when it had become necessary. That image jarred discordantly with the image of the childhood companion he carried around in his mind's eye. In many ways, this new Haku seemed a stranger to Kaori; the thought made him feel sad. But time moved on, and people changed. That was the way of the world.

At length, he began to feel quite sleepy. He realized with some surprise that he had eaten more than he thought he'd be able to.

"Your room has been prepared," Ishaya said, drawing his attention, "if you'd like to retire for the night."

Kaori caught himself in the middle of another yawn and ducked his head embarrassedly. He really was very tired. The thought of going to sleep as if nothing untoward had happened disturbed him, but at the same time he wanted it desperately, wanted the dark and the temporary oblivion it offered.
