"Catnip for those who like watching con artists walk the tightrope of trickery and lies." ―Marie Brennan

Seattle, 1929—a bitterly divided city overflowing with wealth, violence, and magic.

A respected magus and city leader intent on criminalizing Seattle’s most vulnerable magickers hires a young woman as a lady’s companion to curb his rebellious daughter’s outrageous behavior.

The widowed owner of a speakeasy encounters an opportunity to make her husband’s murderer pay while she tries to keep her shapeshifter brother safe.

A notorious thief slips into the city to complete a delicate and dangerous job that will leave chaos in its wake.

One thing is for certain—comeuppance, eventually, waits for everyone.

Ten Best Vacation Spots

1. St. Augustine, Florida. Founded in 1565, this is the oldest city in the USA, influenced by the native indigenous culture and waves of colonization; first the Spanish, then the English and the post-Civil War Americans. It has a basilica cathedral, gorgeous architecture, pirate history, a wonderful lighthouse, and the Alligator Farm. The bonus of the Alligator Farm is that it’s become a natural rookery for many species of birds; herons, spoonbills and egrets.  Great photo opportunities, crazy history, great food.

2. Yosemite Valley National Park/Mono Lake. Yosemite Valley, in southeastern California, is more than just a place of stunning natural beauty. It’s also a living classroom, showing us exactly how glaciers shaped the terrain. From its waterfalls, to the meadows, to the various lakes, to the sheer gleaming stone peaks, everywhere you look you can see how the planet works. East of the park, near the town of Lee Vining, you can visit the beautiful and strange Mono Lake, a high-saline lake surroundedby intriguing natural calcium carbonate formations called tufas.

3. Iceland. Iceland takes its tourism seriously, with lots of bus tours and overnight tours. There is plenty to see and do in the capital, Reykjavik, including visiting microbreweries or the penis museum (seriously), catching a show at the Harpa concert center, or just walking the city admiring its murals. If you’re there in August, the Iceland Heritage Day festival provides free public transportation, and lots of music, art, drink and food. Outside of the city, you can see glaciers, volcanoes, the continental rift, birds, Norse historic sites, a museum on Norse magic, and whales.

4. The Big Island of Hawaii. Oahu is better known and caters to tourists, but the island of Hawaii has the tallest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea. They start measuring from below sea level, but still, the category is “tallest,” not “highest.” You can drive up to the observatory, go to Volcano Park and see an active caldera, visit black sand beaches and the Place of Refuge. On the western or Kona side there are plenty of glitzy resorts that have luaus and organized trips, but I like Hilo, on the east side. It’s more of a regular town. Everywhere you go you will find beauty, and probably some great art. And did I mention coffee bean plantations?

5. Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The festival lives in Ashland, Oregon, on the western side of the mountains. Over the decades, the festival has branched out tremendously from the Stratford bard, including new works, works from traditionally under-represented communities, and musicals. It isn’t the only thing to do in or near Ashland. There is hiking, biking, camping, and fishing nearby. The town is packed with great restaurants, bars and shops.

6.  Portland, Oregon, is a great food and drink vacation site. The city’s various districts have distinct personalities and different activities. In the Pearl, visit Powell’s Books. You can wander in their color-coded rooms for days. There’s a great Museum of Science and Industry with lots of hands-on exhibits. Portland is proud of its brewpub culture and its coffee. Like Ashland, there are plenty of outdoor recreational activities within an hour of the city.

7. Mendocino, California. Great food, great bars, great galleries. Beautiful Victorian houses. A botanical garden five miles north of the village. The Gallery Bookshop. Stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from the headlands and the bluff. Kayaking and whale-watching opportunities. All that is great, and for me it’s a place to let the tranquility sink in until it’s bone-deep.

8. Monterey Bay, California. Go for the sea otters and the aquarium.

9. Seattle, Washington.  The Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit, the Museum of Pop Culture (they’ve got a Dalek!), and the Space Needle, all at Seattle Center, are good reasons to visit the city, but there’s plenty more to see and do. Visit the Seattle Art Museum. Check out walking tours and underground tours in Pioneer Square. This is another city making a name for itself with its restaurants and bars, and it has a great symphony. If you’re afraid of heights, skip the Space Needle.

10. The San Juan Islands, Puget Sound, Washington. I don’t know if I really believe in magic or not, but the San Juan islands are magical. An hour-long ferry ride takes you to these lush, forested islands. Orcas Island is the one I know the best, and to my surprise it’s not named for the killer whales you can sometimes see in the sound, but for a viceroy of Mexico who funded an expedition to the sound. There is something about the light on the water that transports you, far beyond the mainland you left an hour ago.

Cat's Review of Doctor's Desire (Carlisle Medical book 2) by March Author of the Month Andrew Grey @AndrewGreyBooks @TTCBooksandmore #giveaway

Hello TRIBE, we're wrapping up our promotion of our March Author of the Month, Andrew Grey, this week with his new release out today, The Doctor's Desire. Cat really enjoys this series and the setting in Carlisle, PA and is hoping for more stories to come. Remember to click on the Author Central tab below the header above to see Andrew's Interview, and don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the post for a chance to win an ebook of your choice from Andrew's backlist!

General practitioner Dustin Avarilla has been on the job for a few years—long enough to find out that some doctors, especially his boss, don’t see things the same way he does. Dustin believes that the patients come first, but his boss is more concerned with the bottom line. When Charles Morton brings his very sick niece in right at closing time, Dustin’s care starts trouble with his boss, but touches Charles’s bruised heart.

Charles is nearly frantic when his niece becomes ill. He’s had custody of Anna for only six months, following her parents’ sudden death, and he might be in over his head. Dustin is gentle and caring, which is just what his little patient and her Uncle Cheesy need. Charles feels his focus has to be on Anna, and the last thing he’s looking for is love. Dealing with a new job and town, along with becoming a parent, is almost more than he can handle.

Charles and Dustin meet again at a friend’s party, with heated attraction drawing them closer. One dinner leads to a date, with chemistry building by the second. But Charles’s mother, who feels Anna should be left in her care, and Dustin’s boss, who decides their relationship isn’t up to the family image of the practice, form an unlikely alliance that threatens to pull their budding relationship apart. While alone, they are vulnerable, together they might just get everything they desire.

Cat gives this Book 5 Meows with a 1 purr heat index...

This is a book 2 in the series but it stands alone ok. Some characters from this series and a couple from other Carlisle books appear, still I wasn't lost, all it does is make you want to read the other books.

I love how Andrew Grey uses Carlisle and everything is so cohesive. You have the cops, paramedics, firemen, doctors and other professionals all blending as friends and neighbors  forming a bond. It sure makes me wish I lived in a place like that.

Charles is new in town moving for a job and rushes to a clinic when his niece becomes ill. Charles is going through a lot just getting guardianship of his niece and now the job change.

Dustin had been working at the clinic for a few years now. He doesn’t like his boss but loves his patients and helping people. He can’t afford to open his own practice so he is putting up with the boss until he decides on what to do. He loves his house and neighbor as well.
Meeting Charles and his little niece adds a bit of joy to his busy life.

If you haven’t read any Andrew Grey books let me just say this. If you want a story filled with awesome characters and lots of feels you can’t go wrong with any of his books so pick your poison. If you like sexy doctors, uncles that do the right thing, fun neighbors, cute corgis and adorable kids… this one is for you.

Andrew Grey is the author of over 100 works of Contemporary Gay Romantic fiction. After twenty-seven years in corporate America, he has now settled down in Central Pennsylvania with his husband, Dominic, and his laptop. An interesting ménage. Andrew grew up in western Michigan with a father who loved to tell stories and a mother who loved to read them. Since then he has lived throughout the country and traveled throughout the world.

He is a recipient of the RWA Centennial Award, has a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and now writes full-time. Andrew’s hobbies include collecting antiques, gardening, and leaving his dirty dishes anywhere but in the sink (particularly when writing). He considers himself blessed with an accepting family, fantastic friends, and the world’s most supportive and loving partner. Andrew currently lives in beautiful, historic Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT! by Tonya Bolden NERD BLAST & #giveaway @JeanBookNerd @TTCBooksandmore

From award-winning author Tonya Bolden comes a biography of the first Black woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and the first Black woman to run for president with a major political party: Shirley Chisholm.

Before there was Barack Obama, before there was Kamala Harris, there was Fighting Shirley Chisholm. A daughter of Barbadian immigrants, Chisholm developed her political chops in Brooklyn in the 1950s and went on to become the first Black woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. This “pepper pot,” as she was known, was not afraid to speak up for what she thought was right. While fighting for a better life for her constituents in New York’s 12th Congressional District, Chisholm routinely fought against sexism and racism in her own life and defied the norms of the time. As the first Black woman in the House and the first Black woman to seek the presidential nomination from a major political party, Shirley Chisholm laid the groundwork for those who would come after her.

Extensively researched and reviewed by experts, this inspiring biography traces Chisholm’s journey from her childhood in a small flat in Brooklyn where she read books with her sisters to Brooklyn College where she got her first taste of politics. Readers will cheer Chisholm on to victory from the campaign trail to the hallowed halls of the U.S. Capitol, where she fought for fair wages, equal rights, and an end to the Vietnam War. And while the presidential campaign trail in 1972 did not end in victory, Shirley Chisholm shows us how you can change a country when you speak up and speak out.

Intelligencers: men and women from all walks of life and from all sections of society, servants of the Crown who work for the Home Office gathering information vital to the security of the nation.

London, 1855. While Great Britain is at war with the Russians in the Crimea, a cadre of disaffected seditionists and insurrectionists, made up of members of the aristocracy and wealthy industrialists, have set a plan into action that’s been decades in the making—a plan that aims to overthrow the Queen and to install a puppet king on the throne in her place. With the war raging and disquiet in the industrial north and in Ireland, their perfidious plot, unless stopped, threatens to bring about anarchy and revolution.

Aware of the imminent danger, Sir George Grey, the Home Secretary, has tasked The Brothers, a band of four men, friends of over twenty years, to root out the source of the infection, destroy the clique, and track down and eradicate its foreign pretender by any means necessary. From molly houses to state banquets, from hospitals to steam baths, from aristocratic households to the meanest of slums, the friends find themselves in a succession of increasingly perilous situations.

Like the mighty Thames, undercurrents flow swift and deep as they uncover plot after plot and treachery and treason in abundance.

“Fetch Christopher, if you please, Elam,” Lennard said.

“What? Are you going to have me manhandled out the door?”

“No, Terrence. Christopher is waiting for me with my riding equipage. I was about to exercise my horse and I shall do so once I’ve seen to Miles. You’ve paid me for the destruction of my window and given me a promise for the carpet, but surely you realise you owe me for the mistreatment of my butler?”

“You can’t be serious, Lennard. We’re talking about chattel here. Servants are no different from your carpet or your priceless window. He’ll recover. A quick slash across the chops is a lesser thing than one of my own servants might have received had one of them tried to grapple with me. How dare he touch a person of—”

Lennard strode quickly to Astley and grabbed the fronts of his jacket.

“Let me tell you this. Although I said I’ve changed, my hate for you still burns in my chest. How dare you stride into my house, abuse my servants, and feel free to do whatever you like. Remember this before you leave. One word from me to the right person and you’ll find yourself gasping for air as you descend to the depths of the Thames, your arms bound behind your back, and your feet chained to an anchor. You’d just disappear. Like that!” Lennard snapped his fingers next to Astley’s ear.

“Have care to whom you make threats, Lennard. I’m too valuable to the Prime Minister. I still hold a seat and a loyal group of Irish lords who keep him in power.”

“Threats against other men interest me not, sir. I wish to have nothing ever to do with you from this day henceforth … not ever. Do you understand?”

“You’re making a big mistake.”

“Not so big a one as you made by appearing at my door and forcing your way into my house.”

“I shall take my leave of you. But don’t think this is over. I’ll put it about that you dishonoured your uncle’s word.”

“Do what you feel best, sir. But, by now, my coachman will have arrived with my riding gear and is waiting outside the door. If I were you, I’d leave this very moment before I grab my whip and thrash the living daylights out of you. You can apologise to Elam on your way out for injuring his brother.”

“Apologise? Why, I—”

“Oh, and Astley?” Lennard added, interrupting the man by violently releasing his jacket and pushing him backward, his knees hitting the edge of the Chesterfield. “Putting it about that I dishonoured your agreement with my uncle? Well, two can play at that game. It would not be hard to start a rumour that you’ve dealt with your ward, Neasa, inappropriately, and that’s the reason you’re so reluctant to allow her to marry into one of the most noble families in the land.”

“No one would believe that for one moment.”

“People have been wondering about your reluctance these past four or five years, ever since Sir George’s son first approached you. However, now, with my new title, I will have the ears of not only the leading members of society, but also those close to the throne. An innuendo is as good as an oath, don’t you think? Even Irish baronets who hold some sway in parliament are not immune to gossip. You’d not be invited anywhere, whether the slander is proved or not. Everyone knows Sir Hugh was not a businessman, and although the sum you offered would make you out to be a villain at the best, the premature plucking of a tender blossom before its time … why, Her Majesty would send someone banging at your door.”

After a thirty year career as a professional opera singer, performing as a soloist in opera houses and in concert halls all over the world, I took up a position as lecturer in music in Australia in 1999, at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, which is now part of CQUniversity.

Brought up in Australia, between the bush and the beaches of the Eastern suburbs, I retired in 2015 and now live in the tropics, writing, gardening, and finally finding time to enjoy life and to re-establish a connection with who I am after a very busy career on the stage and as an academic.

I write mostly historical gay fiction. The stories are always about relationships and the inner workings of men; sometimes my fellas get down to the nitty-gritty, sometimes it's up to you, the reader, to fill in the blanks.

Every book is story driven; spies, detectives, murders, epic dramas, there's something for everyone. I also love to write about my country and the things that make us Aussies and our history different from the rest of the world.

I'm research driven. I always try to do my best to give the reader a sense of what life was like for my main characters in the world they live in.

Winter's justice (Seasons of Love book 4) by Joy Wild Book tour with Cat's Review @EJBookPromos @JoyWild7 @TTCBooksandmore

Title: Winter's Justice
Series: Seasons of Love Book 4
Author: Joy Wild
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 8, 2022

Another hit right here! Love and romance with a twist, just the perfect amount to make this one a 5 star story!” ~Goodreads Review (Sharon)
“... a beautifully written story which has secrets, suspense, danger, intrigue, twists, friendships, romance, emotions, and love, which leads to a steamy and riveting page turner.” ~ Wendy’s Book Blog

Can Luke make it to Winter before the enemy finds her or is it already too late?

Winter Cloud is a paramedic by day and a horse rescuer by night. Her past is a secret that may come back to haunt her. Even though she is quiet and stays to herself, her friends notice when she disappears along with her beloved horses. Also, to their surprise, they find a threat written in blood. The race is on to find her.

Luke Owens is a retired Navy seal. He took over the family ranch once his dad died. He did everything he could to change the hell the ranch once was to a haven. A haven for his team as they retire and a haven for abused horses. He never counted on a quiet woman bringing her horses to him and then getting stranded by a winter storm. Stuck in a house with this gorgeous woman, he can’t help but fall for her. He can sense Winter is in trouble, but he has to get her to trust him before it’s too late.

Can Winter let go and trust Luke before her past catches up to her or will she flee into the cold and dangerous night?

Cat gives this book 4 Meows with a 3 purr heat index...

This is book four in the Seasons of Love series. You don’t really have to read in order but it does help as characters recur in each book. It just makes a bit more sense when you’ve read the others.

Winter is a paramedic in Louisiana. She lives on the ranch her mother left her and takes in rescue horses. They are her life. Then she finds her horses and life threatened. She finds a ranch in Colorado, loads her horses and runs. She only planned to drop off the horses for safety then return home but found herself caught up in a snow storm without being able to leave. How bad could it be staying with a sexy cowboy that loves horses as much as she does?

As in the last book the story is actually good. The Characters are also interesting both new and the ones that show up from the other book which brings me to the one fault I had.
A small touch of believability. Winter can’t leave because the roads are closed. No getting in or out and another storm on the way… yet Luke has team members arrive…two different times. A threat arrives ( we knew this would have to happen though for conflict… who says the threat wasn’t already there… but then Luke’s brother (Winter’s friend and his team also arrive). Yes, I know this is fiction but it just took some of the realism from me. Having said this, I still enjoyed the story. I liked the suspense and romance and loved the end so all in all a great happy romance. And yeah I’m a sucker for sexy Cowboys and hot bodyguards.

Joy Wild lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is a former paramedic in Louisiana has always been an avid reader. After an accident ended her paramedic career, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of writing. She uses her past experiences to create exciting and romantic stories. Married with three children, Joy spends her days in accounting and her evenings writing stories she hopes will help readers escape from reality and get lost in the happy ever after.
