Growing up we had a dog, Tony.  He was a miniature poodle and had lots of energy.  Every Christmas the dog gave and received presents.  Tony never touched the packages under the tree.  Well he did once, but dad put a gift he’d received at work under the tree and it turned out to be a sausage gift set, so that wasn’t the dog’s fault.    On Christmas morning, the dog loved to open gifts.  He’d tear into his presents with gusto, egged on by my brother.  He was a great dog.

My husband Dominic is allergic to animals.  So I can’t have a dog.  We’ve tried visiting a number of non- allergenic breeds, but Dominic reacts to them all.  I think to make up for that, I write a lot of dogs and pets into my stories.  A lot of them are based on the dogs that my friends have.  My Christmas story for this year features a Jack Russell named Rudolph and he is based on a friend’s dog.  They live outside Philly and I love it when they come to visit.

Dogs were always part of my life growing up and as an adult I have them as part of my life through my work.  And by spoiling all my friends’ dogs.  It’s a win all around.

Alex goes to a dog rescue with one mission: overcoming one of his fears. But he gets more than he bargained for when he unexpectedly bonds with a Jack Russell terrier named Rudolph and decides to take him home.

When shelter volunteer Luther offers to show Alex the ropes of dog ownership, their time together proves they have more in common than just Rudolph’s affection. But if they’re going to have a happy holiday, Alex needs to come to terms with his issues. Can Luther help him see that love really can be unconditional?
