Danger comes in the cold of morning

Blurb

It should be the perfect weekend away. Dalton Caine makes the long journey to Nyemouth to attend a party hosted by his sister. Catherine is estranged from most of the family, but Dalton feels the time has come to build bridges between them. Things don’t turn out how he wants, however, when Catherine gives him a cold reception at the party. But the evening is not a complete waste of time when he meets local photographer Antoni.

Following a near-fatal attack six months earlier, Antoni has struggled with his physical and mental recovery. Catherine’s party is the first time he has been out at night since then, and he’s ready for an early exit when he meets Dalton. The stranger is warm, friendly and incredibly handsome. When Antoni overcomes his reservations and accepts a drink at Dalton’s hotel, it could be the start of something new for them both.

Despite the joy of fresh romance, things soon take a darker turn. The morning after the party, Catherine’s boyfriend reports her missing. Dalton isn’t initially concerned. Catherine has disappeared of her own will before, and he’s more interested in getting to know Antoni, but the men soon find themselves at the centre of a twisted mystery, one that puts both of their lives at risk.

Reader advisory: This book contains violence, murder, PTSD, memories of a child in danger and mental illness. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, this book is best read as part of a series.

Hi Y’all! Come in and grab a cocktail while I tell you about this book I just read.

The title is Cold Day Dawning by Thom Collins, it is book 4 in the Jagged Shores series. Maybe you should read in order, but I read this one without the others and enjoyed it.

There is mention of things that happen in previous books, but it looks like each has its solved mystery. This one did.

The cover is nice and goes well with the title. Then I read the blurb and it really got my interest because... intrigue, murder, mystery, romance…yes please.

There are some trigger warnings mentioned so if PTSD, violence, mention of past child endangerment and mental health issues bothers you, skip this one or read with caution. It’s all pretty mild, I will say.

Who’s my favorite main character?

Antoni and Dalton tie.

Was there another character I liked?

Yes, a couple but all were very minor. I really liked Ethan and would like him a story.

The story is a romance with suspense.

What surprised me most about the book was?

A secret involving Dalton’s sister and his childhood. Why? Just didn’t expect it.

Were there significant plot twists and turns?

A few. There’s was some good twists and action at the end.

Was there something I didn’t like?

The only thing I didn’t like was that near the end it suddenly seemed rushed, but it didn’t effect the story much. I would have just liked a little more between the end and the epilogue. It skipped like 5 or 6 months. It was a satisfying HEA though.

Excerpt

A few moments later, a door on the right opened and a man stepped out. He caught Dalton’s attention straight away. Dressed in jeans, a black T-shirt and a dark overshirt, the man looked nothing like the pretentious people he’d encountered so far this evening. He was also very handsome, which didn’t hurt. He was naturally good-looking, with brown hair, slightly wavy on the top and cut short at the back and sides where it was starting to turn grey. He had a serious-looking face, and Dalton’s initial impression was of something quite sad about his eyes and downturned mouth.

“Hi,” Dalton said cheerfully, hoping the guy wouldn’t turn out to be like all the other guests.

“Hello.” The man didn’t return the smile, but seemingly noticing Dalton’s interest in the photographs, he came closer. “Do you like them?”

There was a trace of an accent there. Dalton couldn’t quite place it. Eastern European, he guessed.

“Very much,” he replied. “They’re remarkable. I’ve never seen Catherine like this before.”

The man looked between Dalton and photographs. “I’m glad you like them. I took all of these.”

Up close, he was even better looking than his first appearance. His eyes were dark grey and there was stubble on his square jaw, also flecked with grey.

“Wow,” Dalton said. “They are sensational…really.”

At last, his mouth turned upwards into the smallest suggestion of a smile.

“Thank you.” He held out his hand. “My name is Antoni.”

Dalton accepted the handshake. The party had finally improved.

Cat's Audiobook Review of On the 2: A Grumpy/Sunshine MM Romance Written by Felice Stevens Narrated by Matt Haynes @FeliceStevens1 @AudiobookMatt @TTCBooksandmore

First rule of riding the subway:

Don’t talk to strangers.
Don’t even look at anyone.

But what if they’re grouchy and gorgeous and you’re sitting right next to them?
I always did like a challenge.
I want to turn that frown upside down, but he barely looks at me.
I take a chance and poke the bear, and to my shock, he plays along and growls back.
The more we meet on the train, the more I realize he’s not the uptight grump I first thought. Then one night, there he is—in my world, in my space...his tongue in my mouth.

Mind blown.

But I’m no fool. A man like Nash Roman doesn’t date a guy who sells suits at Macy’s. Nash is prep school and Ivy League, and I’m night school while working two jobs to pay bills. Nash is fine wine, expensive restaurants, and handmade suits, and I’m beer, corner takeout, and a lucky find at Goodwill.

What am I—street-smart Ethan Moreno—doing, playing in his world? This man is older than me, way richer than me, and has already made it clear he doesn’t believe in love. I should walk away. Instead, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Nash couldn’t care less if his father doesn’t think I’m good enough or if people gossip because we’re so different. I need to trust in him and us, but I’ve been burned before.

And just like the Uptown Number 2, sometimes you have to travel a different route to get to the final destination: Forever.

Grab your copy HERE today!

Hi Y’all! Come in and grab a Heineken or glass of wine and some sushi while I tell you about this book I just listened to.

The title is On the 2 by Felice StevensThe cover is hot and goes well with the title. Then I read the blurb and it really got my interest because... grumpy/sunshine and age gap? Yep, I’m in.

Who’s my favorite main character?

Ethan because of his bubbly outgoing nature but close second was Nash because… yeah sexy older grump. I liked Alex to, I can’t say Nash’s friend, but closest thing to one. I found he had a book too and, yep, I’m going after that.

The story has several settings. There is The 2 where they met and a lot happens. Then Ethan’s workplace and co-workers and friends, Ethan’s apartment, Nash’s office and his apartment. There are more or less other significant places too. I loved how there are so many settings, but they all make the story move and keep it interesting. The story is a sweet, fun feel good romance.

What surprised me most about the book was?

Something that happens with Nash’s dad. That was a real shock lol but I also relate since I too am in Nash’s same shoes in that aspect in a way… nope no hints gotta read or listen!

There’s a lot of plots going like the settings. I won’t list them all I’ll make you get the book. But there are jealous ex’s and plenty of life twist and turns.

What did I like best?

Everything. It’s just one of those books that hooks you but I think I’ll pick the meeting on the 2. This was a pretty unique meet cute. This story is full of feels, but if you're a Felice fan you expect that. If this is a first, you’ll be addicted, and know if you need a pick-up grab one of her books. This is now top of my list.

I loved the ending. It was HFN but we know we are getting one with Felice. This was unexpected and sweet and really brought together a few things.

I listened to this on audio and the narration really made the book. The voices are separate enough you can tell who is who and you can really feel the tension. It was great and I definitely recommend this book, and it's Whispersync ready.

How hot was the book?

A 2, it’s hot but lots of sexual tension as well.

If you like grumpy/sunshine, age gap, opposites attract you will love this!

The Unlikely Heir by Jax Calder Book Blitz with Tammys' Review & #giveaway @XpressoTours @TTCBooksandmore

The Unlikely Heir
Jax Calder
Publication date: August 24th 2023
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, LGBTQ+, Romance

What happens when the Prince of Wales falls in love with the Prime Minister?

My boring life working in an insurance call center in sunny California just took an unexpected turn. Thanks to my misbehaving relatives, I’ve leapt from obscurity to royalty as the new heir to the British throne.

But my welcome in England is about as warm as the weather. I arrive to discover a country horrified at the thought of an American version of Prince Charming and ready to revolt against the monarchy. I vow to my grandmother, the Queen, that I will do everything possible to help her save the crown.

Unfortunately, royal life isn’t easy. From bewildering traditions, traitorous friends, and malevolent swans, the only thing I’m succeeding in is providing entertainment for the tabloids and social media trolls.

And then the broodingly handsomePrime Minister, Oliver Hartwell, bursts into my life.

With his meteoric rise from poverty to the most powerful man in the country, Oliver understands my current plight. Innocent messages of support turn into late-night chats—and unexpected feelings.

But there’s one major problem. The royal family must remain politically neutral at all times.

So how can I keep my promise to save the monarchy when I’m falling in love with the Prime Minister?

A forbidden romance filled with humor and drama featuring a bumbling Prince of Wales and a stern yet dashing Prime Minister, with a love that could transform a nation.

Goodreads / Amazon

Tammy gives this book 4.5 Stars...

Callum is settled into his mundane life in California when an unexpected turn of events brings him to the UK to take his place as the Prince of Wales. Overwhelmed and underqualified, he turns to the Prime Minister, openly out and proud Oliver Hartwell. The two develop an unlikely friendship that slowly blossoms into something more.

Such a fun story, very reminiscent of Red, White and Royal Blue (in my opinion) with fantastically written characters. There is a bit of angst and predictability toward the end, but then an unexpected twist that made up for it. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend for any readers that love happily ever after, sort of hopeless romantic type of stories.

EXCERPT:

Oliver and I sit next to each other on the park bench. Our shoulders brush, and my heart races.

Someone as handsome as him shouldn’t be allowed to mix with mere mortals. It’s not fair.

Oliver stares out across the dimly lit soccer pitch.

“I used to trudge across these fields, this skinny kid with big ears, a kid without a mum or dad, struggling with my sexual identity.”

“Imagine what that kid would say if he could see you now,” I say.

Oliver gives a low chuckle. “If someone had told me that one day, I’d be prime minister and sitting on this bench talking to the Prince of Wales, I don’t think I would have believed them.”

“And yet here we are,” I say.

“Here we are,” Oliver echoes.

His eyes meet mine, and we just stare at each other.

My heart thuds under the weight of Oliver’s unwavering gaze.

I tilt my head back to look at the night sky. But because we’re in London, where light pollution reigns supreme, there are no real stars to be seen.

Instead, I focus on one of the nearby streetlamps and the haze around it. It’s beautiful in its own way, another reminder of the hidden beauty in this world.

“I never imagined when I saw the coverage of your election that you’d one day become my best friend,” I say.

It’s true. Me at twenty-two, sitting in my small apartment, watching on TV the handsome, confident man on the steps of 10 Downing Street with his gorgeous husband. Could I have ever imagined our lives would overlap in this way?

It’s only after the words are out of my mouth that I realize how intense they are. Shit. Oliver’s probably worried I’m going to ask him to be my BFF. Maybe seal our friendship by becoming blood brothers. Heat floods my face.

“I mean, you’re definitely the person I’m the most real with,” I add quickly, flicking a glance at him.

The light of the streetlamp reflects in Oliver’s eyes as he stares at me.

“You’re the person I’m the most real with too,” he says quietly.

My heart thuds recklessly.

Oliver’s tie is loosened, and he’s staring at me with those intense dark eyes.

There might be a time and place where I can resist Oliver when he looks at me the way he’s looking at me now.

But it is not this moment.

I lean toward him and press my lips to his.

It’s just a light touch of our mouths, yet all the nerve endings in my lips tingle like they’ve been electrified. Oliver’s breath leaves him in a silent exhale, a gentle ghosting over my face.

His lips are soft and warm under mine.

It’s a gentle kiss, fragile as a feather.

When I pull back, Oliver is staring at me, his eyes wide. His chest rises and falls rapidly.

“Bloody hell, Callum.” His voice is rougher than normal, and he looks flustered, and I’ve never seen him look flustered before. He’s usually so in control.

And I think I like flustered Oliver even more than in-control Oliver, which is why I close the distance between us again.

“The rules don’t apply tonight, remember?” I whisper against his lips.

I hover there, close to him. But I don’t want to kiss him again if he doesn’t want this.

Oliver’s eyes scan my face, and suddenly, he makes a noise in his throat and one of his hands palms the side of my face.

And we’re kissing for real.

I’m kissing Oliver Hartwell.

The fact causes my mind to melt, leaving me incapable of coherent thought, so instead, I just catalog the sensations.

The heat of Oliver. His taste. The feel of his tongue moving in sure strokes against mine, the rasp of his stubble against my skin. I am definitely, definitely kissing a man.

I’ve never felt this way kissing someone before.

My hands go to the back of his head, grabbing strands of his soft hair like I’m trying to secure him, tether him, keep him exactly where he is, where I get to breathe in Oliver, continue kissing him.

Oliver’s lips move fervently against mine, his hands sliding down my back. I let out a soft moan, lost in the sensation of kissing him.

I’m not prepared to let this kiss end. Because it turns out Oliver’s lips contain the answer to every question I’ve ever had about myself.

And that overrides the fact that of all the people in this world I shouldn’t be kissing, Oliver is top of the list.

Our kiss smooths out, slowing from hot and heavy to tender and sweet.

It’s a lingering kiss, as if Oliver feels exactly like I do, like he wants to extend this perfect moment for as long as possible before the real world intrudes.

But we can’t block out the rest of the world forever.

Eventually, Oliver withdraws from me. In the dim light, his pupils seem enormous, swallowing his irises so the black pools are all I can see.

“Callum,” he says. Somehow, he says my name like it’s both a question and the answer.

Dangerous Obsession (Vice City) by Bella Di Corte Blog tour Spotlight with Cat's Review @EJBookPromos @Bella_DiCorte @TTCBooksandmore

Title: Dangerous Obsession
Series: Vice City
Author: Bella Di Corte
Genre: Mafia Romance/Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 18, 2023
Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs

I'm in love—well, some would call it obsessed—with a mythical family. Technically, they're not a myth, because they do exist. But seeing one is like seeing a wild lion out on the streets of New York. Rare. Except when they're making the papers.

I know something about that. I work for Vice City Times, a newspaper that reports on, and caters to, the criminal organizations of the world. And in our world, the Fausti family is considered royalty among killers, thieves, and generally anyone who usually does business in the dark.

Because they steal hearts—while they’re still beating.

Being the investigative journalist that I am, I followed the crumbs until they led me to Nazzareno “Naz” Fausti.

It was my dream to go undercover, meet them, and write an article detailing everything I discovered. I never planned to witness Naz stealing a heart right from its chest.

Mine.

My name is Ava Gerardi, aka Pepper Nash, and I’m writing my own story.

Cat gives this Book 5 Meows with a 3 Purr heat index...

Hi Y’all! Come in and grab a glass of Chianti and while I tell you about this book I just read.

The title is Dangerous Obsession by Bella Di Corti and it's book 2 in the Vice City series. It really needs to be read in order. I’d even recommend reading the Fausti series though I haven’t, and did enjoy the book, but think I’d have understood the rules and internal workings better if I had.

The cover is interesting and goes well with the title. Then I read the blurb and it really got my interest because I love Mafia romances.

Who’s my favorite main character?

Nazzarenno (Where can I get my own) I loved Luca the family head even though he is quite intimidating. There were just so many interesting characters from Ava’s family and friends to all of the Fausti’s and the wives.

The story has at least 2 prominent settings, the Vice City office that is practically a little city, and where she was staying and Italy. I loved how this fit in the story. I’ve always wanted to go to Italy. It seems exciting and beautiful. The story is a criminal suspense romance.

It’s a very complex story of love, drama, suspense and everything in between… even a modern day gladiator game for love.

So I’ll say this, the book is long so be prepared. Over 500 pages and my reading speed was 25 hours. I tried to figure if or how it could be shortened… maybe… There are lots of descriptions of settings and clothes and jewelry. Should it? No. None of it took away though. The settings added and some instances of clothes were even necessary I felt. So, press on and don’t skip, you might miss an important twist because those hints are subtle and there.

I loved the ending, it was HEA and tied up most of the loose endings. I was hoping for a hint of a book three and who it might be about but maybe there will be a book yet.

If you like crime dramas, mafia families, beautiful Italian settings, hot sex, lots of twists you will love this.

Bella Di Corte writes criminal romance that will steal your heart. She brings to life stories of men who walk the line between irredeemable and savable, and the women who force them to feel. She’s known for her rich world building and strong characters. She’s also an International Bestselling Author.

Apart from writing, Bella loves to spend time with her husband, daughter, family, and four dogs. She also loves to read, listen to music, cook recipes that were passed down to her, and take photographs.

Bella grew up in New Orleans, a place she considers a creative playground.

Hungry is the Night by Robin Jeffrey Blog tour Spotlight with Cat's Review, Excerpt & #giveaway @XpressoTours @TheSidekick @TTCBooksandmore

Hungry is the Night
Robin Jeffrey
(The Night Series, #1)
Publication date: August 22nd 2023
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

The werewolves of the world live in tight knit gangs, or “dens”, for protection from outsiders – and each other. Every major metropolis has one; to belong to a den is to have a family for eternity. However, Grace Holtz, next in line to lead the Seattle den called The Nameless, has had enough of living under the crushing weight of her den’s expectations. Having fled to a small, rural town in southeast Oregon, her goal is to blend in and be as “normal” as possible for the rest of her unnaturally long life.

But Marcus Bowen, a wolf from the UK-based Feóndulf den (and the closest thing Grace has ever had to a lover), has other plans. Reappearing thirty years after their affair came to an abrupt and bloody end, Marcus needs Grace. He needs her to return to Seattle and arrange an audience with Mama, the current leader of The Nameless and Grace’s estranged grandmother. The leader of the Feóndulf and his heir have both been brutally murdered, and Marcus suspects that Grace and Mama are next.

Teaming up to hunt for the killer in the Emerald City, the pair slowly begin to realize their romance may not be as dead as they thought. However, as it becomes clear that the person they’re looking for holds secrets about both their dens, Marcus and Grace must grapple with competing loyalties, conflicting desires, and ultimately decide what matters more: their dens or each other.

Hi Y’all! How bloodly..oops I mean how would you like your steak cooked. Have a seat while I tell you about this book I just read.

The title is Hungry is the Night by Robin Jeffrey, it is book 1 in the Night series. The cover is kind of scary and goes well with the title. Then I read the blurb and it really got my interest because... werewolves, estranged lovers, suspense, oh my! There are a couple of trigger warnings mentioned, so if hunting and eating humans and graphic dog fights bother you, skip this one or read with caution.

Who’s my favorite main character?

Grace. Though Marcus almost ties. Grace is just such a strong female lead and Marcus a bit weak. The story is a paranormal romance with suspense.

What surprised me most about the book was?

That Grace was a lot older than Marcus. She is 200, though I don’t recall it stating exactly Marcus' age just that Grace is older. Also, she is born he is bitten.

Were there significant plot twists and turns?

Yes. The person doing the murders is a twist and how Grace decides to handle it and the outcome another twist.  The ending was a good HEA.

How hot was the book?

There were a couple fairly explicit scenes, I’ll say 3.

If you like werewolves… good ole grisly ones… age gap (can’t call her a cougar since she’s canine) mystery/suspense with some heat and a HEA, then this is for you.

EXCERPT:

The sensation of his lips against mine rippled through me like a shot of whiskey, warming and intoxicating, setting my blood dancing while at the same time making me shiver. When he reciprocated the gesture, when he reached out to hold my cheek with trembling fingers and shifted against my lips without withdrawing, the tight coil of control in my chest unraveled. I took a step forward, my body flush against his, and lifted my hands to grip at Marcus’ shoulders with a possessiveness I barely recognized.

Marcus mimicked my stance, but instead of pulling me closer, he took a step back, breaking the kiss with a small gasp. My eyes flickered open.

While he shook his head, Marcus’ eyes remained closed as he whispered, “Grace, we shouldn’t—”

“Marcus.” His eyes opened wide at the sound of his name. I gave a weak smile and lifted my hand to his face, trailing my thumb across his lower lip. “Don’t be so stupid as to make the same mistake twice.”

He blinked at me once, then twice. The corners of his mouth shot down into a frown and his hands dropped from my shoulders to my hips. He pulled me against his body while quietly whispering, “Ah, sod it, then,” before kissing me hard.

I answered in kind, my hands skittering unmoored across first his jaw, then his shoulders, then his sides, then his chest. I deepened the kiss with a flick of my tongue at his bottom lip, a teasing, tentative request that Marcus answered with unabashed eagerness, opening his mouth to my explorations.

Slowly at first, then in a progressively frantic tumble, I pulled Marcus back into my room toward the bed. I kicked off my shoes as I went, running the tip of my tongue along the top of his palate. He tried desperately to keep pace with me, capturing my lower lip between his teeth and biting down, not too hard, but just hard enough. Still, there was hesitation in his movements. No longer content with the skin available to my hands, I began easing his shirt up and over his body. Marcus tried to register a verbal protest, but it was lost in the crush of our mouths. It wasn’t until I relinquished his lips and began lavishing attention on his neck that he was able to say anything at all.

As soon as his mouth was free of mine, he breathed my name imploringly, caressing my back and shoulders through my thin sweatshirt. “Grace…”

“Don’t worry,” I answered, my words muffled as I pressed my lips against his carotid artery, my wandering hands pushing up under the hem of his T-shirt, fingers dancing over the newly exposed flesh at his side. “I’ll take care of you.”
