Cat's Review of Legally Brawn (Part of the Rom Com Reboot series) by DJ Jamison @author_dj_jamison @neonrainbowarcreviews @tammystwocents X- @DJ_Jamison_ @TTCBooksandmore

Sometimes you have to fight for true love....

When my boyfriend dumps me to find someone more "serious" in law school, I'm devastated but not defeated. I just have to show him I have brains as well as brawn, right?

Thankfully, my best friend Jordan is ready and willing to help me get into law school and prove myself. Only when I get there, ready to reclaim my man, Clay's move on.

To the snarkiest gay boy I've ever met.

And they're engaged!

It's a terrible shock, but Jordan keeps me going. When I'm ostracized from a study group, he helps me prepare for exams. When I'm set up to make a fool of myself at a college party, he's there to rescue me.

I land an internship to work on a real legal case, so it seems it's all paid off. And most surprising of all? I love this lawyering thing!

Clayton, on the other hand, is looking less appealing by the day.

Jordan is the one I want to talk to morning and night. The one I can count on to support me. The one who...I really want to kiss?

Whoa. Maybe it's time to review the evidence and decide once and for all.

Have I been fighting for the wrong man? And will Jordan forgive me that justice has been so blind?

Because I'm pretty sure of the verdict now.

I've fallen in love with my best friend.

Legally Brawn is Book 3 of the Rom-Com Reboot series, in which classic Hollywood rom-coms get an M/M spin, along with some heat and a satisfying HEA!

Cat gives this book 5 meows with a 3 purr heat index...

This is book 3 in the Rom Com Reboot series. It can be read alone, but the other characters are in it a lot, so it does help understand more if you read in order. Trust me, it's worth the read!
I think this was my favorite of the series. I loved Ellis so much. He's so sweet, energetic, loyal and a human golden lab.

I also loved Jordan. He's more laid back, outspoken, has no filter and in love with his best friend.

The story is sweet, a bit of a slow burn but once they get together it really heats up.

There are characters you love to hate, a few Easter eggs from other books, and it's romantic.

I loved it. If you like personal trainers, lawyers, friends to lovers, remakes of fabulous romcoms and a sweet, feel-good story, you will love this.

Cooper
By day I’m fighting fires and saving lives with my brothers at the station, and by night I’m slinging drinks at our family bar with my blood brothers.
I was happy, but I couldn’t help wanting more.
When I stumble across the stunning redhead and her little boy, it’s like everything I was searching for just appeared in front of me.
When an apartment fire takes everything she’s ever worked for, I can’t help offering my home to her and that chubby faced toddler.
Soon enough, they’re not just living in my home, but now they’re permanent residents of my heart.
And if I have it my way, they’ll never go anywhere for the rest of our lives.

Haley
I never planned to be a single mom, but Roman is the absolute love of my life and the best thing that ever happened to me.
When I moved to Nashville for a fresh start, I never could have dreamed what was heading our way.
When the firefighter with a heart of gold steps in to help me and my boy, I vow to find some way to repay him.
I just never imagined I would end up giving him my heart.
I soon find myself imagining a life I never saw for us… a happily ever after.
But after years of never being enough or wanted by someone, can I trust that he really wants us forever?

Cat Gives this book 5 meows with a 3 purr heat index...

This is book 2 in the Station 47 world.
You probably don't have to read Greyson first, but it does help to know the guys and the house.

So, I have 6 words to say...Can I have a Cooper please?
I thought Greyson was awesome but, are these guys going to get better with each book? I'll tell you, Cooper will be hard to top.

He's very Alpha male but wants a family not one night stands. He meets Haley in a store with an inconsolable child and bam fixes him with a frozen waffle.

He never makes it like he'd rather her not have a child. From the get go he's into them both and it's so sweet so hold on to your ovaries if you still have them.

The romance is good and there is action on the job and off.
Great story...who's number 3? I'm waiting!

“Rome, come on, dude. You’re gonna wake your momma up, and she needs her rest, buddy.” The sound of Cooper’s voice draws me from a peaceful sleep, and I slowly crack my eyes open. I’m still on the couch, with a pillow now under my head and the same blanket covering me. Through half shut eyes, I see Cooper laying on his side in front of some blow up structure that Rome is currently sitting inside. It’s filled with those plastic pit balls, and my sweet boy is tossing them everywhere he can manage while giggling loudly.

Covering my mouth with my hand, I pull the blanket up over most of my face so I can sneakily watch the two of them while also feigning being asleep. Cooper keeps trying to wrangle all the balls to one location, but he’s never met my child before when he’s got fistfuls of weapons. Cooper lays down on his back and reaches for a ball that rolled away, but Rome takes advantage and begins pelting Cooper in the face. Cooper is sadly at the mercy of my son as he goes all MLB pitcher on this poor man.

My façade is blown almost immediately when I begin snort laughing under the blanket, and both of my guys turn to see me awake. Wait, my guys? No way, Jacobs. Shut that down immediately.

“Mama!” Rome shouts, and he crawls out of his mini ball pit and comes hauling for me. Reaching over the edge of the couch, I lift him in the air and roll to my back, settling him on my lap.

“Hi, bub. Were you being mean to poor Cooper?”

“Poopa.”

Giggling, I try to keep a straight face when both myself and Coop discover he’s learned the full version of his newfound name. “No, baby. It’s Cooper. Coooper.”

“Cooopoop.”

“You’re making it worse, Mama. Knock it off. I’m Pooper March. I can learn to live with it.” Laughing even harder, Pooper drops down onto the couch next to me and tickles Rome’s belly, causing him to shriek with laughter. “Besides, he’ll eventually learn to say it right.”

“You better hope anyway,” I tease, and he feigns hurt.

“Well, now that you’re up, I’m gonna go order us a pizza for dinner. You must be starving, huh?”

“Wait, what? Dinner? I fell asleep at like ten, didn’t I?”

“Yes, ma’am. You did. It’s almost six in the evening, and while I was able to make Rome some macaroni and cheese for lunch, I don’t have anything kid friendly for dinner. We’ll have to go grocery shopping tomorrow.”

With Rome in my lap, I sit up and look at him as I wipe sleep from my eyes. “Geez. You should have woken me up. I didn’t need to sleep all day long.”

“You were wiped, so clearly you needed the rest.”

“Yeah, I guess. Well, would you mind if we got cheese pizza? Rome will only eat that. Unless the pizza place has spaghetti. That’s his favorite.”

Cooper smiles. “I know for a fact that my usual pizza place makes some kickass spaghetti, so I can do that. Anything else you’d like?” he asks.

You.

“No, that should be good. Thank you. If you have any pancake mix and some cinnamon, I’ll make you breakfast in the morning.”

“You know, I think this roomie situation is gonna work out just fine, my friend,” he jokes, and I laugh as he moves into the kitchen. Rome and I sit in silence, before he wiggles to be let down, and moments later I join him to play on the floor.

The idea of how domestic this all is becoming is not lost on me, but I can’t let myself sit and think about that for too long. Cooper is just my friend, and he’s helping us out more than I can ever thank him for.

But we’re just friends. That’s all.

He’d never want to tie himself down to a young single mom and her baby.

No matter how much that baby is beginning to fall in love with him.

The Kingdom of Shadows and Wolves by Martha Sweeney Release Blitz with Excerpt & #giveaway @marthasweeneyauthor @xpressotours @tammystwocents X- @MSweeneyAuthor @XpressoTours @TTCBooksandmore

The Kingdom of Shadows and Wolves
Martha Sweeney
(Stardust & Shadows, #1)
Publication date: August 27th 2024
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

Being raised by the viper who slaughtered my family, along with being beaten and berated by him for merely existing, takes a toll on my heart and soul. Uncle bears the crown, has changed the name of our kingdom Soare to Krigare, and desires more destruction throughout the Fae lands. While plotting his quest to rule all, I’m bartered to forge a union with Cysgod, a formidable ally and one who could ensure Uncle’s victory. King Caelum of Cysgod has a reputation that precedes him, defining him as a tyrant as well. He killed his father for the crown and is known to be just a ruthless and bloodthirsty as Uncle.

Just when I thought the Gods had forsaken me, as they did the Enkeli and Conroicht, my life turns upside down. While I fear my new king, he and his people see me as their queen. Though he does not punish me, I expect it nonetheless and flinch at his touch.

I may be rid of Uncle, but I doubt his hold on me is truly released. Does he plan to capture Cysgod from the inside, using me as his weapon, giving him the army he needs to take and conquer any kingdom? Is there a way to stop Uncle and seek revenge for the death of my kin?

EXCERPT:

Your name does not fit you, my soon-to-be King,” I state. “Your father surely didn’t expect his son who is named of the heavens, where our beloved Gods reside, to take his crown by force. Did you go rabid like the Conroicht? Perhaps he should have named you—”

His grip tightens around my fingers and I’m forced to stop speaking and walking when he does. I dare not look at him, knowing I have spoken out of turn.

There isn’t a sound other than his controlled breath in and out of his nostrils.

“I have heard the rumors, King Caelum.” My stare pierces the floor. “I know a wolf in a sheep’s hide even if that wolf is a kingdom away.”

“One would almost say the same of your beloved Uncle,” he jabs.

I snicker. “Beloved is a word that has never been used to describe him.”

A hand wraps around my throat and I’m pushed against the stone wall. “You know little of me, Princess Aurora. Mind your words or I will seek pleasure in punishing you.”

My chin raises. “You know little of me.”

King Caelum’s attention lowers from my face. My dagger, which was hidden against my thigh, is pressed against the bottom of his leather chest guard. A low chuckle reverberates from him.

“With the tip of my hand like so,” I state, lowering my wrist an inch. “I merely need to press up and I will wound you greatly.”

“Princess Aurora,” Kion chides, stepping closer.

King Caelum growls at the guard who backs down a second later. “I know more about you, my soon-to-be Queen of Cysgod than you realize.”

“Not enough to know that I was armed and—”

He snarls like the wolf he is which cuts me off. “Three punishments so far, Princess Aurora. The odds gain in my favor.”

“Three?” I scoff.

The fire in his eyes intensifies. “First, for calling me a coward. Second, for calling me a wolf. And now, the attempt on my life.”

“Your life?” I balk. “You and your guards outnumber me. If you wanted, I would be dead and my blade wouldn’t be where it is.”

“Precisely.” His grip tightens around my neck, his thumb pressing into the bottom of my chin. “You pose no threat to me.”

“That is what Uncle would wish you to believe,” I inform. “Who was kneeling to whom earlier today? Not one Krigare guard rose when either of us stood, not that they have ever risen for me other than to escort me somewhere.” A yelp rushes out of me when my weapon-wielding hand is pinned against the wall. My gaze darts to its proximity and I swallow the lump in my throat when I realize its tip is a mere inch from my eye.

A devious smirk tugs at his lips as King Caelum chuckles deeply. “I’ll very much enjoy the punishments you will receive from me when we are afforded the time.”

Indignantly, I reply, “I’m certain it won’t be worse than what Uncle has done to me.”

King Caelum releases me, returning my dagger to the inside of my left thigh. I’m speechless as his fingers graze my skin and linger longer than needed. Should he lift his fingers barely an inch, he will touch a place no Fae male has ever touched. “We shall see, Princess Aurora.”

It started as an obsession.
One that I couldn’t contain.
It wasn’t supposed to go as far as it did, but things spun out of control.
Our lives became so intricately intertwined that there was no escaping the fact that this woman would become mine.
But she wasn’t as willing.
She ran from me.
She denied me the simple courtesy of knowing her plans.
She forced my hand when I least expected it.
And then everything fell to pieces.
Alliances were exposed.
Truths were revealed.
And in the end, only one thing was clear.
This story was bigger than the two of us.
And it was about to blow up in our faces.

Cat gives this book 5 meows with a 4 purr heat index...

This is book 21 of the Owens Protection Services. You really need to read in order as though some of these books have a happy for now ending or conclude that particular story, a few have a part 1 and 2 (as this one will) and most have an ongoing arc that may be mentioned in this/their book along with that storyline.

This one does bring back Rafe and the bigger story arc. It starts off very hilariously with Nicholas, a stick in the mud, then brings in Fox, FNG, and Rae. The love interest is a cat burglar that Rafe has hired, and she intrigues Nicholas.

Though the story starts out quite funny it has intrigue as well, then a twist, more twists and we will call the next one a tangle.

Holy crap I didn't see this end come and can't wait a month for the next book!

“Nick! Get off your ass and help me.”

I struggled to my knees and grabbed Hugo just as he fell when Patrick released the carabiner.

“Yeah, it’s me that’s not pulling his weight.”

“Complain about it later. We have work to do.”

I hauled him over to the rolling luggage and stuffed him inside, hoping I wasn’t squishing him too badly. Not that I cared all that much. He was a bad guy. I was just zipping it closed when I heard a thunk behind me and spun around.

A figure dressed in all black had taken out Patrick from behind. I pulled my gun, but it was kicked out of my hand. The figure spun in this wild maneuver before a foot connected with my chest. I stumbled back, tripping over the luggage and falling to the ground. I jumped to my feet, tackling the guy just as he was reaching into the luggage. I tackled him from behind, but was surprised when I felt breasts.

“You’re a woman?”

She heaved, kicking me off her, using my surprise against me. I stumbled over Patrick just as he was getting to his feet. The woman pulled out a gun, firing at me just as I dove, taking Patrick with me. The bullet skimmed my arm, taking a small piece of skin with it. I hissed, rolling off Patrick as I jumped to my feet and ran hard at the woman, yanking the mask from her face.

Green eyes stared back at me, tempting me with intrigue and deception. I was so focused on those beautiful orbs that I forgot for just a second that I was supposed to be stopping her. She kneed me in the balls, making me gasp, bending over in shock.

“You didn’t have to do that,” I wheezed.

“You were stopping me.”

“Ever heard of asking politely?” I cringed.

She bent over, placing her lips right next to my ear just as I heard the snap of metal around my wrist. “Please, stay here.” Then she licked the shell of my ear and was gone. I stood but realized all too late that she’d locked me to a metal pipe attached to the wall. I jerked my hand as she opened the luggage and rifled through the man’s suit.

After pulling out what looked like a business card, she straightened the man’s shirt, then fixed his tie, spending an inordinate amount of time making sure it was perfectly straight. Then she pulled his suit jacket closed and buttoned it up.

With a grin, she looked back at me, winking as she turned and ran for the rooftop access. Her dark ponytail swung behind her as she disappeared through the door.

“What the hell is going on up there?” Chase shouted.

I glanced over at Patrick laying on his back. “Man down.”

I'm a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, "No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book." I didn't think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn't already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven't been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Between reading, writing, and taking care of three small kids, my days are quite full.
