Cat's Review of The Cowboy and The Wheelman (Farthingdale Valley Book 6) by Jackie North @neonrainbowarcreviews @jackienorth_author @tammystwocents X- @JackieNorthMM @TTCBooksandmore

If you don’t believe in anything, believe in my heart, for it loves you.

In the tree-swept beauty of Farthingdale Valley, two men emerge from the shadows of pain and hardship.

Hudson, scarred by betrayal, guards his heart fiercely. Released from a brutal chain gang, he’s ready to shut the world out.

Ty, released from the same chain gang, is a hopeful spirit with a knack for seeing the silver lining. He believes in what the valley can do, and is determined to show Hudson that trust can be rebuilt.

In a place where hot showers and good food offer more than comfort, they promise transformation–can Ty’s faith in the valley break down Hudson’s walls?

Can love flourish when trust has been shattered?

A gay m/m cowboy romance with opposites attract, ex-cons, mutual rescue, slow burn, endless flirting, and walking in the rain. A little sweet, a little steamy, with a guaranteed HEA.

Oh, I loved this book. I'm loving all these stories in this series. But this really was great. I liked that both men came from the same chain gang but never really knew each other. They are put in same tent at the second chance program and become fast bonded.

Hudson is quieter and more withdrawn, but Ty is more outgoing and needy. I loved all the characters and the plot and the story is sweet with a bit of a twist.

I get both cowboys and a truck driver and there's awesome horses and cute kids.

Jackie North has been writing stories since grade school and her dream was to someday leave her corporate day job behind and travel the world. She also wanted to put her English degree to good use and write romance novels, because for years she’s had a never-ending movie of made-up love stories in her head that simply wouldn’t leave her alone.

Luckily, she discovered m/m romance and decided that men falling in love with other men was exactly what she wanted to write about. In this dazzling new world, she turned her grocery-store romance ideas around and is now putting them to paper as fast as her fingers can type. She creates characters who are a bit flawed and broken, who find themselves on the edge of society, and maybe a few who are a little bit lost, but who all deserve a happily ever after. (And she makes sure they get it!)

She likes long walks on the beach, the smell of lavender and rainstorms, and enjoys sleeping in on snowy mornings. She is especially fond of pizza and beer and, when time allows, long road trips with soda fountain drinks and rock and roll music. In her heart, there is peace to be found everywhere, but since in the real world this isn’t always true, Jackie writes for love.

Cat's Review of Ebb and Flow (Ebb & Flow Book 1) by Karenna Colcroft @tammystwocents X- @TTCBooksandmore

The heart of the wolf yearns for his mate.

Only weeks after the massacre of half his pack, Quinn Boucher is finding his footing as a guard of the U.S. Anax, the ruler of all werewolves in the country. But something is missing: His mate Malachi. Despite whatever fate drew them together, Malachi won’t accept Quinn—and that hurts like hell.

Decades after losing his human lovers, lone wolf Malachi Powers still grieves. The last thing he needs is a mate, especially one over a century younger. But when Quinn returns to Nova Scotia to assist the Canadian Anax, they reconnect and Malachi can no longer deny their bond.

Together, Quinn and Malachi build their relationship. But there are those who want the Anax dead—and Quinn and Malachi are caught in the crossfire. Will they be torn apart before their life together can begin?

This book includes discussions of past sexual assault and depictions of grief and mourning. It also includes consensual commanding of a character and an adult character being called "boy." This book is set in the Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat universe but is not a direct part of that series.

Cat gives this book 4 meows with a 4 purr heat index...

This is a spinoff of the Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat series. I think you'd understand better if you read the other series but it does have good backstory so you may be able to read this first.

I fell in love with Quinn in that series and was so happy to get his story.

This one is set in Nova Scotia when he goes to help Silas the Anax there. His fated mate Malachi happens to be there too.

The characters are amazing, the setting is beautiful and the plots are intriguing; there is betrayal and action.

Lots of romance and heat. I really liked the way the fated mate was handled with Malachi and Quinn, it's not the usual we are mates and fire Flys between them. Malachi is a century older than Quinn though Quinn has been through a lot and Malachi is a lone wolf. If you're looking for a unique werewolf story check out this series.

Rare by Patrick de Moss Book Blitz with Excerpt & #giveaway @xpressotours @tammystwocents X- @patdemoss @XpressoTours @TTCBooksandmore

Rare
Patrick de Moss
Publication date: March 1st 2025
Genres: Adult, Fantasy

Some songs aren’t meant to exist.

When sixteen-year-old Emma receives a mysterious Beatles record—a cover of The Girl Can’t Help It, a song they never recorded, her life changes in ways she never imagined. Grieving her grandmother’s death and lost in the heavy fog of depression, Emma doesn’t expect much from the strange package. But the moment the needle drops, magic ripples through the world.

Angels shiver. Dragons stir in their hoards. Vampires feel an ancient hunger awaken. The song calls to them all, and it calls to Emma too. For the first time since her grandmother’s death, Emma feels something spark inside her: hope. But magic has a price, and the Dark has heard the song as well.

To protect the record, Emma must venture into the Hidden States of America—a surreal, shadowed version of the country where myth and reality blur. It’s a country shaped by the stories we tell and the secrets we keep, where ordinary towns hide extraordinary truths.

As Emma struggles to carry the song to where it belongs, she’ll have to confront her grief, face her deepest fears, and discover if she has the strength to resist the pull of the Dark.

From Patrick de Moss, the acclaimed author of Kings of Nowhere, comes a darkly magical tale of loss, courage, and the power of music to heal even the deepest wounds. This is a story that explores the fragile beauty of hope and the strength it takes to face the shadows.

Rare is a spellbinding modern fable. Every note of the song of this story echoes with both wonder and danger. Some songs can change the world. Some songs can change you.

EXCERPT

Far, far away to the east, in New York City, where magic and power and rumor swirled in their own urban galaxy, a very ancient and powerful creature lived in the highest tower money could buy. While many of his kind lived and worked in the greater New York area, coiled around the rise and fall of stocks and bonds in an endless dance of power and wealth, he was by far the oldest in that den of snakes. He was old enough that his thick fingers still dreamed of worn gold coins and his body of piles of treasure beneath his scales. Now, of course, he slept only on damask of the finest quality, spread over a memory foam mattress—nowhere near as comfortable as cold hard cash.

That night, he was window shopping, his hungry eye roving over page after page of the most exotic goods Sotheby’s online could offer.

If one lived long enough, even the most exquisite meals tasted like ashes on the tongue; breathe often enough, and even bottled air from Everest smelled stale and flat. He could hardly be bothered to hide his own nature when he was alone—the secret theater of the Council and its Compact had been a bit of a thrill for a while, but Mr. Drake—just Drake to his friends—was getting bored.

He yawned, and his long, forked tongue spilled out, unfurling and flicking against his human nose. No one was around to see it, so he wasn’t breaking the Law, and besides, he missed all the parts of his true shape quite badly. Missed a herd of sheep’s eyes rolling in terror. Probably lamb again tonight, from that place on the other side of Broadway.

Mr. Drake’s lair took up the entire upper floor of his tall tower in the center of the city, wide rooms filled with the carcasses of kingdoms burned to the ground beneath his fearsome will. Company logos on banners from decades past, those battle standards of board members who had crumbled and fallen to their knees in merger upon acquisition upon merger. Darwin had certainly been on the money about the adaptation of species. In the face of adversity, Drake and the rest of his kind had thrived, but—

But he wanted to spread his wings high above his head, soar over the crescent moon, sweep down on farmland and gout flame from his throat; the glorious crescendo of a sun going supernova. Instead, he stoked another cigar, the smoke curling from his nose a pacifying reminder of who he had to be now.

His cellphone lit up, vibrating on the long cocobolo desk. Drake looked down at it with a grimace and tapped the screen with one stubby finger.

“Drake,” he said. “How do you have this number?”

“I have my ways, Old One.”

He was in the middle of pouring himself another whiskey, ready to tear this joker a new set of holes, when he recognized the voice and sighed.

“Old One, is it? When was your sweet sixteen, Morgan?”

“Oh well, you know me,” The Hollow Woman sounded far too cheery for his tastes. “Evergreen.”

Drake snorted.

“Isn’t it still daylight on your side of the world? Why don’t you go out and catch some rays, you old hag? Go get a tan. Would be good for the both of us.”

“Have it your way,” Morgan said sweetly. “Don’t trouble yourself with little old me, then.”

“I won’t,” he snarled, and hung up. Smoke was starting to waft down from the high ceilings, having pooled there in those short minutes on the phone. The AC here was top notch, of course, the best AC in the city, but nothing manmade could keep up with his kind’s distemper. He flipped through a few more pages on Sotheby’s, but quickly, rapidly stabbing his finger on the mouse. He tried to hum something to himself, and his phone buzzed again.

“All right. This is getting old pretty fast,” he said. “Spit it out already and go away. What do you want?”

“Want? Oh, darling Drake, not a thing. Not a single thing.”

He laughed, a deep rumble like an earthquake, the magma pushing up beneath the surface.

“Wanting is what you’re for, Morgan. Maybe you forgot?”

“Well, now. Maybe you’re not interested.” She was almost purring. Purring! “I’m sure one of your brothers will be.” And she hung up on him.

Dammit. Dammit. Dammit, he thought. The haze of smoke had curled down just above the surface of his cocobolo desk. If he wasn’t careful, he would trigger the alarms on the floor below again. He took a breath. He took another. I am a calm blue ocean, he thought to himself. I can be one with my feelings.

I. Know. Everything.

There comes a time in every man’s life when he comes to a crossroads. Does he risk it all for the woman he loves or walk away?

I’ve avoided attachments all my life. When you’ve been on your own as long as I have, you learn real fast to look out for number one.
And that always worked just fine.

Until OPS came along.

Slowly, I’ve been dragged into ops, formed odd associations with men I would otherwise ignore, and found the woman I know should be mine.

But she’s with someone else.

My heart pounds when she walks into the room.
I sit in my car outside her house just to get a glimpse of her and know she’s okay.

Danger is never far away, and whether she’s mine or not, I will protect her with my life. The stakes are higher than ever. Fear clings to me like sweat whenever a threat is near her. But my girl is strong and capable. I know she’ll push through and fight to the end.

The problem with knowing everything is that you already know when you’ve been beaten.

I may not walk away from this alive.

This was the wrap up to the three-part ARC with Kavanaugh, IKE, and Isa.
It was a good closing to their story, of course it opened another, and there's still the overall story ARC with Cash.

There is lots of action, adventure and this one has more humor than the last couple to lighten things up.

We get FOX which is always good, but we got lots of IRIS and some Scotty and FNG too.
The story was overall intriguing, dramatic, hot, humorous and of course a knock-out cliffhanger ending.

You do need to read this series in order, but it is well worth the read!

I'm a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, "No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book." I didn't think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn't already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven't been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Between reading, writing, and taking care of three small kids, my days are quite full.

Cat gives this book 3 meows with a 2 purr heat index...

This is not a romance but I gave 2 purrs heat because there is some rarely and talk of it.

I generally love a vampire book, but this one just didn't do it for me.
It felt like mostly history starting way back in the past going to present. There's lots of description of time and areas that I felt added nothing to the story.
At about fifty percent into the read the plot picked up through a twist, and got better.
There are several twists, one really got me because I thought it was just one of the two groups, but added another twist, I won't say what.

The end was surprising, but I really liked it.

Excerpt

The car stopped at the gates of the compound and waited. A security camera looked down at the idling car, exhaust fumes rising from the rear. And then the gates started to open, and the car pulled into the compound. The driver parked and climbed out, walking to the rear door he opened. Yvette climbed out - and she was alone. She wore a full-length crimson velvet gown, a black choker set with a large ruby around her thin throat, and red slippers. Her face was cold and pale. Her lips matched the color of her dress and the ruby sitting over her throat.

As Yvette climbed out a thunder of noise descended from the trees above, as hundreds of crows perched in the boughs and branches of the cypress trees erupted into a chaotic cacophony. Everywhere Yvette looked there were crows - along the high walls and flapping in the air. The birds seemed to have been sent into a frenzy with her arrival, and their cawing was deafening. Every set of crow’s eyes was fixed on Yvette.

Yvette studied the birds for a moment, and they stared back. Then she turned and walked toward the house. Captain Jones, dressed in a black suit and tie, opened the door. He bowed.

“The master has been most expectantly awaiting your return…” - he said, still bowing.
