Cat's Review of Price of Victory (The Saints of Westmont U book 5) by Hayden Hall @authorhaydenhall @neonrainbowarcreviews @tammystwocents X- @TTCBooksandmore

He was my forbidden enemy. My darkest temptation. And the one person who could destroy everything I've built.

Rhett

Some rivalries run deeper than blood. Ours runs deeper than hate.

Aiden Whitmore was never supposed to be on my team. Not after what his family did to mine.

Not after the hostile takeover that nearly destroyed us.

But he's here, skating circles around my defenses with that cocky smirk and those green eyes that see straight through me.

I should stay away. I should remember why I hate him.

Instead, I'm thinking about his hands on my skin and the way he looked at me in that library.

Enemies. Teammates. Obsessions.

This isn't just about hockey anymore. And I'm about to lose the only game that matters.

Aiden

He wants me gone. I want him on his knees.

Rhett Morrison thinks he's better than me. More honorable, more deserving, more everything.

He doesn't know about the pressure crushing me from all sides. And he doesn’t want to bend.

But he will.

I see the way he watches me in the locker room.

I know how his body responds when I pin him against the wall.

He can hate my name all he wants. By the time I'm done with him, he'll be moaning it.

Price of Victory is a hockey romance and the fifth and final book in The Saints of Westmont U series. It follows two enemies from rival families in a forced proximity teammates situation, family business warfare, and explosive hate-to-love chemistry. While each book can be read on its own, reading in order will be more fun.

This is the Saints of Westmont U book 5, it can be read as a stand-alone story, but you get better enjoyment reading in order as you know the characters better.

This was a fabulous finale. I loved the characters and the story was interesting.  I love a good enemies to lovers and this was perfect. I also liked it was a family rivalry, so it was very complicated.

Great story and awesome end to a series.

PERSETTA

Lost until HIM
I thought the night fate brought us together was the worst night of my life.
I was wrong.
Blinded and with no memory, how was I supposed to know any better?
He’s cold-blooded, cunning, and dangerous—the head of the French mafia.
He’s everything I shouldn’t want in a man, but I do.
For my safety, I have to seduce him.
Instead, with every threat, he’s the one who draws me further into his web.
It’s so easy to fall into his arms as my demons slowly release from their cages.
I feel safe with him.
Until I remember the truth.

ADRIEN

Broken until HER
I walled off my shredded soul and black heart long ago.
No one ever gets in anymore, and yet my guard lowered for her.
She stole away on my boat, injured and with no memories.
The only clue to who she once was—a tattoo on her calf.
This woman. She’s my past. My present. My future.
The one who got away, in more than one sense.
Years ago, I broke our families’ alliance and turned my back on her.
Last night, I was hired to kill her.
My little survivor. My butterfly. If only I recognized her…

EXCERPT:

Just like yesterday, his palm pressed against my throat, but this time he didn’t squeeze. His thumb brushed up and down over my pulse point. His skin trembled against my own—warm, firm, unyielding, and yet somehow vulnerable too. Maybe that was what drew me to him, because it wasn’t rational how much I wanted him closer, his arms around me, his body against mine.

We were suspended like that for seconds…minutes. It could have been hours. Somehow deep inside, I felt protected for the first time in forever. It didn’t make sense. It didn’t have to, but in my jailer’s arms, in this moment, the void melted away and lightness spread. I wanted more, but the instant I reached for him, before I even touched him, he jerked away.

He cleared his throat.

“Never ask that of me again.”

“Or what?”

He stomped across the room and threw the door open so hard it crashed against the wall and skittered back in scattered croaks.

A strangled laugh choked out of me. Pain shot up my side, and tears seeped under my eye dressings. None of this was funny, but his switch in moods was giving me whiplash, especially after the lightness of that memory.

“You don’t possess a touch of sunshine, do you? You’re angry. Tormented, so you hide behind violence thinking it makes you so tough, but you’re nothing but a big ol’ grump, trying to spread his own misery.”

“You know nothing about me.”

He didn’t stick around for my rebuttal. The door battered the frame on his way out, and the lock clicked loudly into place. His absence left me lonelier than before, and I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about that. One thing I was almost certain of though. He didn’t really want to kill me. The next time I saw him, I’d put that to the test.

Old Ghosts by Janina Franck Book Blitz with Excerpt & #giveaway @ janinafranckauthor @xpressotours @tammystwocents X- @XpressoTours @TTCBooksandmore

Old Ghosts
Janina Franck
(Saoirse Kennedy, #1)
Publication date: October 7th 2025
Genres: Adult, Crime, LGBTQ+, Suspense

Notorious crime boss Saoirse Kennedy finds herself entangled in a web of mystery when she receives orders to eliminate a detective and faces the resurgence of her haunting past.
In the midst of this city plagued by crime, Detective Lily Rose sets out to apprehend Saoirse, but their paths intertwine when a new, sinister force emerges, prompting an uneasy alliance to protect their city.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

Two more men were already waiting for her in the large entry hall, dressed the same as the guards outside, pointing their guns at her.

Saoirse smiled her best cheerful smile, raising her hands in resignation and slowly advancing toward them with carefree steps. “Now, boys, that’s no way to ask a lady to have tea.”

As expected, they barely responded with more than a low growl.

“All I want to do is talk to Garrison. Look, I didn’t even bring a gun.” She gestured to her hips, clad in tight black jeans, wearing an equally tight leather jacket over her olive-green T-shirt.

Her having come unarmed obviously came as a surprise to the guards, because for just a moment, they glanced at one another in an attempt at wordless communication. That rookie mistake was all Saoirse needed. She dashed forward, keeping her body low, and ducked underneath the gun one of them was holding, ramming her head into his ribs. He not only stumbled backward, but he fell, his gun clattering onto the floor. By the time it was in Saoirse’s hands, the other man’s gun was pointed at her again, while hers was aimed at him. However, after a moment’s reflection, she moved it from him to the unarmed man on the floor.

Still smiling, she tilted her head to one side. “I’m sure your boss wouldn’t care if I killed him. But would you? Willing to risk it?” She paused to let her words sink in. Then she repeated her earlier statement. “All I want to do is talk to Garrison. Are you gonna let me go up those stairs, or does he need to die first?”

Her eyes were on his, unblinking and firm. Now it all depended on whether he knew who she was. Though, judging by his glance from her to his partner on the ground, he had a fair idea. Excruciatingly slowly, he lowered both his gun and head.

“There’s a good boy.” Saoirse beamed at him and pranced past him and up the stairs. Except for the guy manning the computers, Garrison wouldn’t have any more security in the building. He didn’t like having too many people around. It made things too confusing, and it lost a significant amount of class.

She had barely made it to the first landing, when she heard the click of a gun’s safety. Dropping her body to the ground immediately, she twisted and fired. The guard’s shot missed her by several meters as her own hitting his arm threw off his aim. Instead of retaliating further, Saoirse sprinted up the last steps of the stairs, and determinedly kicked down the door to what she knew to be Garrison’s office. He wouldn’t change it. Not when it had the perfect view across his grounds and ideal lighting from its positioning.

She was right.

He sat at his desk, facing the door, looking very grave.

“Saoirse,” he said, his tone level. He wore a navy suit today, and a light grey, almost silver tie. His brown hair was brushed and perfectly parted at the side, and his beard neatly trimmed. His hands were clasped together, his elbows stemmed on the table.

“Hello, Luis, old chap,” Saoirse responded. “Mind if we have an uninterrupted chat?”

Desperately wanted found-family sometimes comes with wagging tails and a whole lot of fur.

Blurb

Arthur

When I was squeezing seven rescue dogs and a horde of cats in my small house, all I wanted was to not turn away a pet in need. Opening the Safe Haven Pet Rescue was a dream come true. But when I get hurt, standing between a man with a gun and a stray dog, I realize I still can't do it all.

My injured leg, a concussion, having to lean on my friends, and realizing how helpless I feel, throws me back to my childhood when nothing I did ever seemed to be enough. But there's one silver lining. Brooklyn West. He's the kind of guy who holds a stranger’s hand in a crisis. He's great with my dogs, even cranky little Chili, and really seems to want to help the shelter. I like watching him be a protective big brother when his sister turns up on his doorstep, even though I think there's pain underneath his sunny smiles. But as we move toward friendship, I keep looking for the strings, for the catch, and wondering how I'll pay him back, because nothing in my life can be that sweet, or that simple.

Brooklyn

I went through a slice of medical hell, and came out the other side with enough money to move to the opposite side of the country and start the doggie daycare business of my dreams. The cherry on top of that good luck is meeting Arthur Bjornsson. Big, wild-bearded, soft-voiced Arthur is the kind of guy my family would've ridiculed. He's warm-hearted and willing to throw himself into harm's way right in front of my eyes to save one pathetic stray dog.

He's the kind of guy who gives me back some faith in humanity. But when my underage sister Cheyenne shows up on my doorstep, on the run from the family I thought I'd escaped, my old life and new collide. I want to help Arthur, get to know him, and, as he heals, I want more than just friendship. But Cheyenne brings legal risks, a teen on the other side of my bedroom wall, and the threat of retribution from our family. The simple relationship I thought Arthur and I were building is suddenly messy as hell. I don't know how we'll get through this to reach the furever home I so desperately want.

A Furever Home is a fur-baby-filled, hurt-comfort, small town romance between two men whose only chance at a family is to build one themselves.

Excerpt

I sat behind the counter at Safe Haven animal rescue, listening to my shelter manager calling me from across the ocean. “Did you see the video?” The happiness in Shane’s voice made me smile. “Was that cool or what?”

“Hang on.” I swiped my phone over to where I had a waiting text from Shane’s boyfriend, Theo. Sure enough, there was a video attached. When I hit play, I saw Shane with his little white cat Mimsy doing their routine of Mimsy-tricks with the iconic architecture of Paris behind them. In this short clip, Mimsy jumped from the ground up to Shane’s shoulder, then balanced on his head and raised one paw in a salute.

I said, “Did you just busk in front of Notre Dame?”

Shane had lived off his wits and Mimsy’s skills for a long time, but Theo was rich enough he no longer needed to.

“Not busking,” Shane told me. “I didn’t put the hat out. Wouldn’t risk breaking the law here. But Mimsy was riding on my shoulder and these two kids asked if she was a real cat, speaking English with the cutest French accents, and I couldn’t resist letting her show off a bit.”

Of course he couldn’t. Shane would deny it till he was blue in the face, but he was a sucker for kids, and for that little cat. Letting her shine while making kids laugh was his favorite thing. Aside from being with Theo, of course.
The newfound brightness of Shane’s voice warmed me, even as I pushed aside an unworthy pang of jealousy. Shane had lived a much harder life than I had—forced to leave his family as a teenager, going homeless, sometimes going hungry, so independent it’d taken Theo months to persuade him love didn’t have to come with strings.

My own family might’ve lost interest in me long ago, but I’d never gone without a meal. Now Shane and Theo had a relationship so solid even Shane was willing to trust it. I should be happy for my friend and stop thinking about how I was ten years older and far more alone. “Sounds like fun.”

The Vanishing Castle by Marlena Cannon Book Blitz with Excerpt & #giveaway @marlenacannoncreates @xpressotours @tammystwocents X- @XpressoTours @TTCBooksandmore

Marlena Cannon
Matthew Lett
Publication date: September 23rd 2025
Genres: Adult, Cozy Mystery, Fantasy

A fantasy mystery with hooves and heart.

Simarron isn’t a detective, he’s just a centaur with a clipboard and a nose for trouble. He left his homeland to get a professional job in the city as a magical safety inspector. However, his new life isn’t quite as he imagined it to be and his fellow housemates at Slant Row Boarding House (which is definitely not haunted) are shadier than an enchanted forest.

When a castle disappears and an alchemist ends up dead, Simarron must choose between the cozy, safe rule-bound life he’s always dreamed of and the principles that won’t let him walk away. He is a safety inspector, after all, and the city isn’t safe with a killer on the loose.

A cozy mystery set in a richly imagined gaslamp fantasy world, The Vanishing Castle delights with magical intrigue, a quirky found family, and a centaur sleuth you won’t soon forget.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

So, you want to be a magical safety inspector?

Checking my pocket watch, I scuffed the moisture off my hooves as I entered the brick building. Inside, a framed newspaper article announced the founding of the Magic and Alchemy Safety and Health Administration just ten years ago. But the smell of dust, lamp oil, and crumbling paper told a different story, one far older. I caught a dim reflection of myself in the glass—enough to see that my auburn mane looked presentable—but I smoothed it down anyway while I waited.

My gaze restlessly traveled the shelves containing old books and magical oddities, including a globe of the world adorned with dynamic swirls of clouds that flowed over the model. The morning light streamed in from a pair of narrow, floor-to-ceiling windows, brightening the dark wood and heavy silence of the interior.

I glanced at my pocket watch again—one minute until my appointment. Inconveniently, the desk positioned outside the director’s office was unoccupied. Not a secretary in sight. Oh, no—they didn’t expect me to interview for a secretary position, did they?

An indistinct figure moved beyond the glass-paneled door. I shifted from hoof to hoof. What was I to do in this situation, knock or wait one more minute?

By the time I worked up the nerve to announce my presence, two more minutes ticked by. Dread slid its icy fingers into my chest, warning me that I was now late, and gave me the final push to act.

I reached forward to knock, pausing when I heard footsteps shuffle to a halt on the other side. I backed up awkwardly, my hooves clattering on the wood floor as the door swung outward.

“Hello, you must be Simarron! I’m Ken Moosekind, Executive Director of MASHA,” said a squinty man with a bushy mustache whose robes smelled faintly of tobacco. “Come in, lad, and mind your head.” He retreated behind his cluttered desk.

I ducked my head slightly, entering the office: a place of organized chaos. Books and files sat piled atop cabinets and shelves—even on the floor. Wood scraped on wood as I moved aside a chair and settled down on my haunches opposite the director.

Director Moosekind shifted a stack of papers aside. “So, Simarron, you want to join MASHA as a magical safety inspector, do you?”

Marlena Cannon grew up reading "The Cat Who..." mysteries by Lilian Jackson Braun and writing stories of her own. She kept writing intermittently over the years, eventually pursuing her dream by completing the DIY MFA program in 2023, where she drafted "The Vanishing Castle," inspired by one of her childhood projects. She also designed the cover using her background in graphic design. Marlena lives with her husband and their rescue rabbits.

Cat gives this book 4 Meows with a 3 purr heat index...

This is book 3 in the series but can be read as a standalone. But if you like hockey romance, I'd read them all. It's a great series. So far this is my favorite. Why?
An extra-large, lovable himbo (though I like the golden retriever better).
The biggest guy is the little spoon.
Slow burn
The smallest of the two MCs is not really small either but he's really quiet.... but he's the dominate one.
I adore all these characters.
The story has a very serious thing happen yet there is also a lightness. I guess Rafe's personality brings the slight humor and man oh man is he sweet. (I want a Rafe...lol)
Tanner Rafe and Mickey's roommate and best friend is a riot!
Oh Mc 2 Mickey is German. I loved his bit of language issue (I can't wait got the audio on this). He's the quiet, smaller if the 2 but not a little guy and the dominate.
Mickey is sweet too.
I adored these two together.

The only reason I gave a 4 was it was a bit slow, and I felt repetitive at the beginning just a little then picked up.

And a little personal thing...I read so much and another series I read has a lot of the same names like, Asa, that was another and Logan the ex, even Rafe, and I got confused a couple times at the beginning but got it figured out. I didn't take off for that as it was strictly me but if you've read the other series as well it could throw you off.

Now bring on Tanner.

For Sale Baby Shoes Never Worn (Cliffside Connections, Book 1) by Emma Hartlight Release tour with Cat's Review @deannasworld163 @enticingjourney @tammystwocents X- @EJBookPromos @TTCBooksandmore

Title: For Sale Baby Shoes Never Worn
Series: Cliffeside Connections, Book 1
Author: Emma Hartlight
Genre: Sweet Contemporary Romance; Sweet Mystery Romance Sweet Romantic Suspense
Release Date: September 16, 2025

Some treasures hold more than just memories.

Six months after loss turned his world upside down, Liam O’Connell finds hope in a peculiar online ad: “For Sale: Vintage baby shoes, never worn.” The haunting words draw him to Thea Lawson’s antique shop, a haven filled with whispers of the past and the quiet ache of unfulfilled dreams.

Drawn together by shared grief and the mystery of the tiny shoes, Liam and Thea embark on a journey to uncover a century-old family secret. But their search stirs up more than just dust, attracting shadows from the past who will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried. As danger closes in, an undeniable connection sparks between them.

Can they unravel the Montgomery family’s hidden history, find healing in each other’s arms, or will the weight of the past shatter their fragile hope for the future?

Cat gives this book 3 Meows...

This was a sweet pretty clean romance of a man that's gotten his 6-year-old niece and to make her feel better from her grief fixing her room up more grown up. He finds an ad for antique baby shoes never worn and answers it.

Thea is in grief from losing her aunt a year ago that owned the antique shop and another reason I won't mention as it would be spoilers. The 2 (or 3) meet.

Ok though this is sweet I never quite got some of it. Having lots of 6-year-old girls in the family I couldn't figure why antique baby shoes would make a good gift. Though it was a nice way to introduce the 2 characters.

The story has charming parts with a happy ending.
