Part of The Long Shadow Series by Duncan Gaye

Patrick Callahan comes to Cape Breton expecting easy money from a quick and lucrative timber deal. Instead, he only finds humiliation. Swindled out of his inheritance and stranded in a windswept fishing village, he is left with nothing but a single suitcase and a future that has collapsed overnight. At seven and a half feet tall, Angus MacAskill is a gentle giant with his own past. In St. Ann's, he is known for his silent kindness as much as he is for his stoic nature. He offers Patrick a bookkeeping job in his mercantile, and a place by the fire. What begins as a simple arrangement blossoms into a profound connection neither man could have ever imagined.

Set within the wild beauty of nineteenth-century Nova Scotia, Finding Harbor is a queer historical romance about survival, finding home, and a love that takes root slowly but with unshakable strength. Perfect for fans of Annie Proulx (Brokeback Mountain), Cat Sebastian (A Gentleman Never Keeps Score) and KJ Charles (An Unseen Attraction).

Excerpt

Patrick watched, fascinated by the sight. Submerged, Angus looked even more amazing. His chest rose like an island from the water, with rivulets flowing through the valleys of his muscles. His hands, spread wide to aid his floating, could have easily spanned Patrick's entire ribcage. Every proportion spoke of power held in careful check, strength tempered by conscious gentleness.

As Angus had predicted, the water's temperature became pleasant after the initial shock. Patrick swam to the pool's center. His strokes were strong and careful. They reflected his childhood summers in Boston Harbor. He circled Angus once, then twice, like a small craft orbiting a ship.

"Show off," Angus said, righting himself in the water. He moved with surprising speed for his size, catching Patrick around the waist before he could dart away.

Patrick found himself lifted effortlessly, Angus's hands secure around his midsection. "What are you—" he began, but his question transformed into a yelp of surprise as Angus tossed him several feet through the air. He hit the water with a splash, sank briefly, then surfaced, sputtering but laughing.

"Again?" Angus asked, his eyes bright with mischief.

"You're a menace," Patrick said accusingly, but he swam back to Angus, nonetheless, allowing himself to be captured once more.

This time, Angus hoisted him into the air with deliberate care, ensuring Patrick was prepared before launching him skyward. At the pinnacle of his leap, Patrick savored a delightful instant of weightlessness—just a taste of flying. Then, in a beautiful arc, he dove cleanly back into the water. As he emerged, he noticed Angus watching him with bright-eyed admiration.

"Graceful," the giant commented. "Like a kingfisher."

What began as play evolved into a pattern: Angus would throw, Patrick would fly, then dive, then return for more. Each toss sent him higher, Angus's strength precisely controlled to provide thrills without danger. Patrick laughed freely, just like he did as a child. He forgot about being self-conscious. The joy of movement, water, and trust flooded him.

Breathless and excited, Patrick swam to Angus and climbed onto his broad shoulders. He wrapped his arms loosely around the giant's neck. "Onward," he commanded imperiously, pointing toward the small waterfall.

Angus obliged. He swam with powerful strokes that barely seemed affected by Patrick's added weight. They traversed the pool together, Patrick riding high above the water's surface, feeling the play of muscles beneath him as Angus moved. In the tender embrace, skin met skin; Patrick's chest molded to Angus's back. This connection stirred a quieter pleasure, profound and comforting.

At the waterfall, Angus stood tall, water cascading down his body. Patrick, perched confidently on his shoulder, felt like he was soaring among the towering trees. The shift in perspective was exhilarating.

"You see things differently from up here," Angus said in a low voice, one hand reaching up to steady Patrick.

"Is this how you always see the world?" Patrick asked, marveling at the altered perspective.

"More or less," Angus confirmed. "Higher than most, lower than trees."

He helped Patrick slide down from his shoulders. His hands guided Patrick through the water. Soon, they faced each other, bodies close but not touching. Droplets clung to Angus's eyelashes and beard, catching sunlight like tiny prisms. His hands remained at Patrick's waist, neither restraining nor demanding, simply connecting.

Patrick placed his palms against Angus's chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heart beneath water-cooled skin. Angus's eyes held his, patient and waiting. He inched closer, their lips poised for connection. When the kiss came, it tasted like fresh water and sunlight; unhurried and adventurous. Unlike their first kiss by the fireside, heavy with longing, this one held a different charm. It was not about urgency, but the playful bliss of certainty. Angus's arms cradled him gently, as water lapped at their shoulders. Wrapped in each other's embrace, they felt whole for a moment, completely secluded in their secret haven.

Cat's Review of Noel I Won't by DJ Jamison @author_dj_jamison @neonrainbowarcreviews @tammystwocents X- @DJ_Jamison_ @TTCBooksandmore

Will I give my heart away this holiday season? Noel, I won't.

When my first head chef gig implodes and I find out my dad has a health crisis, I go home for the holidays.

Only to find the lovable farmboy next door has moved in.

He's helping my parents run our family's Christmas tree farm. Has moved into my house. Has seemingly *replaced* me.

He may be gorgeous and a hard worker and even sweet when he wants to be, but I can't step aside for him. Can't let my parents continue to struggle with the farm.

Not even when we find new life for the farm--and for me as a chef.

Not even when Hopper warms my bed every night.

I might be falling in love--with Hopper, with my hometown, with a life I could never envision when I was eighteen and desperate to leave. But I vowed long ago that I'd never be happy in small-town Nebraska.

But when Hopper asks me not to leave him, what can I say except...

Noel I Won't.

Cat gives this book 5 Meows with a 4 purr heat index...

Things I love about this in no particular order.
1. Enemies to lovers (kind of)
2. Big misunderstanding on both parts.
3. Found family
4. Coming home
5. It's a Christmas story with all the feels!
Last but not least seeing characters from Granville and Riverton, Christmas Falls (lots of Easter eggs)
And there's a cute dog.
Noel is a big chef in Chicago, but his career is taking a nosedive, then he finds out his dad had heart problems they didn't call and the guy he hates most in town is helping them on their tree farm. The town holds bad memories for him, but he needs to help his parents and finds the farm on a bad way. And Hopper more than helping. he's being the son he isn't.
I loved watching Noel help and the farm transforming back to its glory and he doesn't quite realize at first his importance.
It's full of fabulous characters, a great story line, fun and spicy times. Oh, something I didn't mention I love is that there's a great role reversal in the spicy area. The biggest man is a dedicated bottom that likes a bossy top, and this is handled Fabulously without actually being BDSM.

I highly recommend this holiday read this year!

Hustled by Roya Carmen Book Blitz with Excerpt & #giveaway @royacarmen @xpressotours @tammystwocents X- @XpressoTours @TTCBooksandmore

Hustled
Roya Carmen
Publication date: November 20th 2025
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Sports

Fun and Games.
An indecent proposal.
And a whole lot of heartbreak.

Pro billiards player Caine Hall is hot as hell. When he walks into the pool hall I co-own with my husband Reeves, I nearly fall all over myself. Over a few playful games, we get to know each other. He’s smooth and sly, and Reeves instantly hates his guts. He’d kick him out if Mr. Hall didn’t just happen to be our landlord.

He says he wants to help us, and we’re all ears. But when he makes us an outrageous proposal, we can’t believe the gall of the man. Caine wants to spend time with me. It’s innocent enough, albeit very weird. We’re desperate because we’re behind on our rent, so eventually, after much pondering, we reluctantly accept.

Caine treats me like a princess and shows me a whole new world. He takes things slow, just like he does at the pool table. Yet… he scares me — he’s intense and obsessive. And as he abuses his power, his demands and proposals intensify.

Reeves and I are falling apart. We keep telling ourselves we’ll say no next time, but Caine has got us both under his spell, efficiently manipulating us both in very different ways.

I’m anxious about my marriage and my unpredictable, hot-tempered husband. Yet I can’t stop thinking about Caine. He’s in my head. He’s under my skin. Reeves and I have agreed that this is simply a financial arrangement, something we’re doing for our livelihood.

So why have I let Caine hustle his way into my heart?

Hustled is a STANDALONE story. It will be part of a series of 3 standalone books – related but separate stories.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

“I officially rescind any future proposals. There will be no money. You’re absolutely right. You’re not a whore, and I’ve been completely out of line. You may go now.”

My jaw drops to the floor. Who does this guy think he is? “I may go now?”

“Yes, please go. ” He pulls away, and I ache for him. The sudden absence of his warmth leaves me hollow inside, like someone has scooped out my insides with a cold spoon.

My body betrays me completely—my skin prickles with goosebumps, my breath catches in my throat, and there’s this terrible, painful emptiness that only he can fill. I lean forward slightly, instinctively chasing his touch before I catch myself.

The space between us feels charged with electricity, crackling with unspoken need. A hint of his cologne—that tangy, distinct scent—still lingers in my nostrils, teasing me, reminding me of how close he was just seconds ago. My fingers twitch at my sides, wanting to reach out, to pull him back against me.

I hate the power he has over me. I hate how my body responds to his without my permission, like it belongs to him instead of me. But I can’t deny the physical ache that spreads through me, radiating from my core outward, making me feel both weak and desperately alive at the same time.

I shove him hard.

He recovers quickly. “Do I need to call security? ”

I watch him as he walks away from me. I’ve really done it this time. What must the man think of me? He reaches into his desk. For a chequebook? For a security button?

I huff. I hate him so much, I can’t stand it. “And another thing, Mister. You’re not as perfect as you think. One of your ears sticks out more than the other… it makes you look goofy.”

His gaze reaches mine, and that maddening smile curves his lips again. “Is that so? I never realized. Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention, Jenna.”

Just as he’s about to take a seat at his desk, he changes his mind and stands. “Let me show you out,” he says cooly, and every syllable grates me — how dare he be so calm and collected, when I just want to rip his head off.

But when we get to the door, he presses me against it, his body claiming mine—and I lose complete control.

I’m his. All his.

His hands find the hem of my skirt, rough and demanding as he hikes it up. My back presses against the cold door, a stark contrast to the heat of his body pinning me there. I gasp as his fingers trail up my thighs, leaving fire in their wake.

“Tell me to stop,” he whispers, his breath hot against my neck. “Tell me you don’t want this.”

But I can’t. The words won’t come. All I can manage is a desperate whimper as his hands climb higher, stroking the sensitive skin of my inner thighs. My head falls back against the door with a soft thud.

“Caine,” I breathe, my voice barely recognizable to my own ears.

Color of Fire
Gina Giordano
(Strange Eden Trilogy, #3)
Publication date: November 20th 2025
Genres: Adult, Historical

“And I thought you were my savior in my darkest hour. How very wrong I was.”

1794: Devastated by the violent disappearance of her husband, Charles Sharpe, Eliza struggles to save Pleasant Hall from the hands of crooked creditors and the governor’s greed. In the aftermath of the attack, her husband’s enemies have branded him a traitor and declare him dead.

But an unlikely source carries knowledge that he still lives, and he alone knows who has taken Charles. Eliza’s desperation drives her to form an alliance with the king of the underworld himself: Captain Hiram Bruin, a notorious man who is more pirate than privateer.

Eliza’s death has been ordered by Lord Dunmore, and Bruin himself tasked with the deed. But Hiram Bruin has never been a man to follow orders. He offers her passage on his ship, the Fortuyne, and his personal protection. In her hour of distress, Eliza accepts—for she has no other choice.

Bruin takes Eliza on a wild and dangerous voyage from the island of New Providence to the wild and untamed Saba, and finally to England, where her journey started three years ago.

Eliza endures her new sinister reality, one where death creeps ever closer, and quickly learns that the only monsters at sea are men. Ensnared by the salt air and damning secrets, one thing is startlingly clear: Bruin wants to take everything she holds dear. For the roots of revenge lie deep…

Will Eliza be able to save the life of her husband before it’s too late? What price is she willing to pay for his freedom? And can she escape this unimaginable nightmare, fueled by a man of unspeakable cruelty?

Color of Fire is the dark, thrilling conclusion to Gina Giordano’s sweeping historical epic, the Strange Eden Trilogy.

SNEAK PEEK:

“I hope you never forget for one moment that the only reason you are alive right now is because of me,” Bruin said, the venom unmistakable in his voice. “Your every breath is a gift—from me.” He mocked her shallow breaths, then pushed into her again. “You should be thanking me.”

Cat's Review of Riding Pine (Aspens Hockey) by RM Neill @r.m.neill_author @neonrainbowarcreviews @tammystwocents X- @TTCBooksandmore

A hockey player and a beaver walk into a bar…

I’m not a real beaver. I just play one for the Bloomburg Aspens.
You’d be surprised how many times I need to clarify that.
It’s not a traditional job, but between my yoga studio and playing the beaver, it pays the bills.
The beaver mascot gig also comes with one rule:
Don’t reveal my identity to anyone.

Which wasn’t a big deal until I met this guy at the bar. A hot guy with a shy smile and a huge…wood.
Lukas Pine.
A hockey player for the Bloomburg Aspens.

He was only supposed to be a one-night stand, but we keep finding each other. Usually with our clothes off.
In my defense, I had to tell him. You should know you’re sleeping with the team mascot. Especially when the players aren’t supposed to know who I am.
Lukas is more than happy to keep it a secret, but there’s a new problem.

We’re not very good at hiding it.

And that’s when I learn riding pine isn’t always fun.

Riding Pine is a standalone novel set in the Bloomburg universe of the Sheltered Connections and Broken Horn Ranch series. A smart-mouthed former circus acrobat and a tender-hearted hockey tough guy at the end of his playing days are so hot together they have to bend not just their bodies, but the rules, to stay together. This story is pure ridiculousness with loads of spice and all the feels…oh, and some hockey.

Ok so read the authors note in front of book. Basically, they say its low angst with lots of spicy times. And its right.

Unusually spice right off and a lot of it isn't my thing but, in this case, it works and very well.
I absolutely adored both Ben and Lukas (Piney) they just work together perfectly.

The story is full of humor and spicy times but such a wonderful feel-good story. It's like a warm cozy blanket to snuggle into with all the relaxing fun vibes.

As the author says in the forward... If you're looking for adventure and suspense this isn't the place... but for warm and feel good this is just what you need.

I highly recommend and of course you get a little hockey sports romance with a sweet and bendy acrobat mascot. Check this out!

I'm a wife, mom, animal lover and a hopeless romantic.

I want my stories to make you smile, swoon and snort laugh, but not necessarily in that order.

I hope I can be the author you turn to when you need a story to make you laugh, or add light to an otherwise dark day.

Cat's Review of Moonlit Nights and Northern Lights (Killigrew Street Case Files book 2) by TJ Rose @tjroseauthor @tammystwocents X- @TTCBooksandmore

How to survive fake dating your telepathic arch nemesis during an undercover mission in Scotland:

1. Don't think horrible thoughts about him in case he's listening in. The creep.

2. Ensure Freddy the zombie ferret doesn't bite him. Much.

3. Try not to call him Detective Dickface (unless he really deserves it).

̶4̶.̶ ̶D̶o̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶l̶e̶t̶ ̶h̶i̶m̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶'̶r̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶t̶c̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶e̶e̶l̶i̶n̶g̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶h̶i̶m̶.̶

Rory

Imagine my surprise when my missing ex-boyfriend's phone pings back to life in the one place I swore I'd never set foot in again: home. Home to the pack I left years ago, where I’d learned I’d never be enough.
I'm probably mad for agreeing to go—after all, the pack gathering I've been invited to is definitely a trap—but even more crazily, I'm being sent with a man who hates my guts. The detective who threw me into a cell during a full moon, condemning me to an agony that I still have nightmares over.
It doesn’t help that he's hotter than hell. Thankfully, he's straight, otherwise the way he looks at me sometimes might put ideas in my head… If I were ever able to forgive him, of course.

Theodore

He's loud. He's infuriating. He thinks it's okay to insult me to my face.
So why have I agreed to partner up with Rory Thorne to investigate missing shifters?
And even worse, why have I agreed to pretend to be his boyfriend?!
Being a telepath means I've always kept the world at arm's length. I don't have time for tiny wolves with chaotic energy and ridiculous hair and eyes that taunt me with their enigmatic colour—an ocean-forest riddle that distracts me more than I care to admit.
Can the two of us pull off our undercover mission? Possibly, if we don't kill each other first...
Or, even worse, kiss.

Contains: a bi-awakening in a moonlit forest, only one bed because the hotel clerk ships them, a zombie ferret that likes to get bitey, wolf cuddles, “let’s get this out of our system,” and a rather mysterious zapping thing…

Moonlit Nights and Northern Lights is the second in the Killigrew Street Case Files series, a collection of MM PNRs centered around a found family of supernatural detectives. Each can be read as a standalone, but start from book one for maximum enjoyment.

Buy link: Amazon

Cat gives this book 5 meows with a purr 3 heat index...

This is a book two in a collection of standalone but interconnected paranormal. I do suggest reading book 1 first I felt a bit lost at times in the beginning.

I fell in love first page. The story is full of humor and page turning suspense. I loved the take on mate bonding. I loved everything actually about this book. I'll be looking for more and waiting for Kit's story.

If you like grumpy, telepathic detective, wolf shifter / chaos gremlin, fake dating on an undercover mission, enemies-to-lovers or "let's get it out of our system", only one bed, a slow burn that gets scorching hot, bi-awakening & first times, telepathy and a zombie ferret for a pet... you will love this!

Trigger warning: mild gore, main character physically and emotionally abused as a child, poor self-esteem, past mentions of racism experienced by one of the main characters, on page anxiety attacks, PTSD (side and main character).

TJ Rose is steadily turning her wild imagination into alternate universes, one happily-ever-after at a time.

By day, she weaves action-packed queer romances packed with vivid worlds and characters who dance between sugar, spice, and pure chaos. By night, she's either plotting doomsday scenarios or binging horror movies—sometimes simultaneously.

When not writing or daydreaming, you'll find her wandering through the British wilderness, coffee in hand, sunlight optional but strongly preferred.

Cat's Review of The Lucky Ones (Unpredictable series book 2) by Felice Stevens @felicestevens @tammystwocents X- @FeliceStevens1 @TTCBooksandmore

Keston:
I’m never lucky.
As a foster kid I bounced from home to home.
My tattoo parlor is my only safe space.
My days are spent making art and my nights are lonely, even when I’m not alone.
Then I meet him.
Bailey Marks.
The man who won’t stop talking and making me laugh. Making me want to see him again and again. But I don’t belong in his suit-and-tie world.

Bailey:
I’m never lucky.
I lost my father, and my so-called mother sees me as a bank account. I spend my time bailing my sister out of trouble, but she’s all I’ve got.
Except my law practice, which is the only thing that’s totally mine.
I tell too many jokes to hide how lonely I am, and I have way too many one-night stands.
I just want someone to love.
Then I meet him.
Keston Harris.
The gorgeous loner who’s closed off his emotions, with walls higher than the Empire State building. One kiss from him, and I’m a goner.

We’re two lonely hearts, unlucky in life and love, failed by people who should’ve been there for us.

What we do know is, the world feels better when we’re together, and life seems easier now that we have each other.

Trust issues? We’ve got a million of them.
Yet we keep turning to each other when life gets tough.
But it’s nothing serious.
Maybe if we say it often enough, we’ll believe it.

And maybe…just maybe, we’ll finally be one of the lucky ones.

This is the second book in the Unpredictable series but is a standalone. I did love seeing Wes and Brenner in this one along with Grady. This is about Grady's brother Keston and Wes and Brenner's friend Bailey.  Bailey is a lawyer like Wes and Brenner, but Keston is a tattoo artist that really doesn't like Lawyers. Both men had a hard past but each handle it very different.  Keston wears his past like a chip on his shoulder and Bailey hides behind a mask of smiles and sunshine.

I love all the characters in this book as usual. I did feel like the guys needed to get over it a bit sooner lol. Having said that. I really liked this book a lot and loved both main characters. But I love a good grumpy/ Sunshine, I like that the characters are in their 30's and I liked the Opposites attract aspect too.

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. She believes that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner. Her characters have to work for it, because just like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love.

Cat's Review of Melting His Grumpy Heart: A grumpy/sunshine, snowed-in Christmas MM romance by Ali Ryecart @aliryecartauthor @neonrainbowarcreviews @tammystwocents X- @TTCBooksandmore

Gruff and grumpy meets sunshine and smiles. Stranded in a lonely farmhouse, sparks flare then soften as winter’s longest night draws them closer.

Trapped by the snow, can sunshine and a solstice sunrise melt the grump’s icy heart?

Alone in his isolated farmhouse, ex‑soldier Jake Whitby lives by three simple rules: no attachments, no complications, no risks. But when a blizzard strands Ru Parker on his doorstep, the grumpy recluse finds himself stuck with a sunshine storm in human form.

Jake resists the intrusion, but Ru’s everything Jake isn’t: warm, joyful, and armed with a smile that could melt more than ice.

Snowbound together, Jake’s distance thaws into decorating the farmhouse with winter greenery, snowball fights, and rescuing the wonky Christmas tree he’d banished to the attic. And when Jake quietly shares the ancient solstice sunrise he’s always honoured alone, Ru is there beside him, bringing new light to centuries-old tradition.

As charged glances and accidental touches turn into desire neither can resist, Jake realises his unexpected guest isn’t so unwelcome after all.

When the storm passes, Jake faces a stark choice: retreat to his lonely existence, or embrace the man who’s brought warmth, sunshine, and hope back into his life.

In the season of miracles, where Christmas cheer meets solstice light, will their love be strong enough to last beyond the thaw?

Cat gives this book 3 meows...

This is a sweet holiday story.

I did really like the characters and like that Jake worked teaching extreme survival skills.
I also liked Ru and that he is a children's book illustrator. They are both rather new unusual jobs besides the normal.

I love a good snowed in story and we also get hurt/ comfort, age gap and forced proximity.
My only issue is if felt the story really drug on and it was hard to keep my interest. I'm glad I kept reading though, it's a really good story.

Making Your Heart Pound... One Beat at a Time.

The stories I only ever told myself were set in a world where boy met boy, where best friends became more, where the hero rescued not the damsel but the hot guy he'd been secretly crushing on.

I wanted to read those stories. I craved to read those stories. But those stories weren't out there. Or that's what I thought, until one Christmas, when I unwrapped a shiny new e-reader. All it took was a few clicks, and my world changed forever.

I found my tribe.

But there is life outside of MM & gay romantic fiction in all its configurations. Allegedly.

When I'm forced to switch off the trusty, faithful word machine, there's a husband to feed and talk to, pubs to drink in, and cake to eat. I love to do all those things and more, before I rush back to write all the words.

I'm a Londoner, born and bred, but I now live just outside the big bad city but close enough to hop on a train so I can get my regular metropolitan fix.

Can’t Hurry Christmas
Melissa Baldwin
Publication date: November 13th 2025
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Holiday, Romance

The holiday spirit is the last thing on my mind, and he’s focused on his new beginning. But one mistletoe moment might change everything.

Callie
Spending the holidays alone for the first time in four years wasn’t exactly on my wish list. But with a major shake-up at work and more changes than I ever saw coming, embracing my new reality seems like the only option.

And then there’s Travis—charming, handsome, and a Texas drawl that could make any woman weak in the knees. But is it too soon to start something new? I’ve been out of the dating game for a while, and maybe this season is meant for family, friends, and finding joy in my new season.

One thing’s for sure—I’m in no hurry for Christmas to arrive.

Travis
Christmas in the Northeast? In the freezing cold? Yeah, not exactly my idea of home. But turning down this job offer wasn’t an option—it’s the kind of opportunity that doesn’t come around every day.

Still, spending the holidays away from everything and everyone I love is tougher than I expected. And then there’s Callie. I never planned to meet someone like her, let alone work so closely with her.

Now I’m left wondering… is taking this risk worth everything I’ve worked for?

EXCERPT:

“Callie, I know this isn’t a typical holiday season for you. I can’t imagine how you are feeling now that…things are different without …”

“You can say his name, Hannah.”

“Joey,” she says softly. “I’m sorry. I know this is a difficult time.”

I shake my head. “Don’t be sorry. I asked him to set a wedding date, and he said he wasn’t ready and didn’t know when he would be. That pretty much told me everything I needed to know. Our goals were not exactly as aligned as I thought they were.”

She places a hand on my shoulder and gives it a gentle squeeze. “I’m really proud of you.”

“Proud? For getting dumped?”

“No. For not settling,” she explains. “And for letting me drag you into crazy holiday chaos instead of spending the night alone, binge-watching TV shows you’ve seen a hundred times.”

I laugh under my breath. “You’re not wrong. This is good for me—I always do better when I’m busy.”

“You might even enjoy yourself at the festive family night,” she says, tying another bow in less than two seconds.

“Oh, I’m sure it’ll be a blast,” I say flatly. “Hundreds of children, awkward small talk, and tacky decor. I’m all in.”

She giggles. “By the way, Anna’s new friend is coming with us. Her name’s Mia. She’s such a sweetheart.”

“Cool,” I say, biting my lip as I attempt another bow.

“And her dad’s meeting us there.”

I glance up. “Okay?”

“He’s a very nice guy…”

I narrow my eyes at her. “That’s great. Is there a reason you’re telling me this?”

She conveniently avoids making eye contact with me.

“Hannah…”

“Yes?”

“What are you up to?”

“I’m not up to anything,” she says, innocently. “I just thought it might be nice for you to meet a new friend.”

I stare at her. I should’ve known she was up to something. She was very insistent that I go to the festive family night.

She shrugs. “Anyway, he’s single. And nice. He has a good job. And he’s very—”

“Stop right there,” I interrupt. “No setups. You promised.”

“I didn’t set you up,” she says. “I merely mentioned that a single, employed man who also happens to be a devoted father will be in the same vicinity as you.”

“Oh, well in that case,” I say, rolling my eyes again.

She smirks and reaches over to take the mangled ribbon from my hands. “Here, let me help. You’re not exactly grasping the bow tying process here.”

“I didn’t get Mom’s crafty gene like you,” I mutter.

She laughs. “No. But you certainly inherited the moody gene from her.”

“I’m not the only one,” I tell her.

She holds up a perfectly wrapped box, complete with an elaborate gold bow. “See? We make a good team.”

“Always,” I say. “You do the work, and I’m here for moral support.”
