Out of Reach blog tour, Guest post with Carrie Arcos and giveaway.

How do you find someone who doesn’t want to be found? A girl searches for her missing
addict brother while confronting her own secrets in this darkly lyrical novel.
Rachel has always idolized her older brother Micah. He struggles with addiction, but she tells
herself that he’s in control. And she almost believes it. Until the night that Micah doesn’t come
home.
Rachel’s terrified—and she can’t help but feel responsible. She should have listened when
Micah tried to confide in her. And she only feels more guilt when she receives an anonymous
note telling her that Micah is nearby and in danger.
With nothing more to go on than hope and a slim lead, Rachel and Micah’s best friend, Tyler,
begin the search. Along the way, Rachel will be forced to confront her own dark secrets, her
growing attraction to Tyler…and the possibility that Micah may never come home.

Greatest thing you learned at school:

I was one of those who excelled at school and who loved learning. I took advanced classes and
loved the challenge. I was also very involved in sports and student government. I guess the
greatest thing I learned had to deal with leadership. How to lead a group, how to actually get
people to follow you, how to care for others. I was a team captain for both the Cross Country
and Track teams and felt a great deal of responsibility toward my teammates and my coaches. I
learned how to read people and how you can talk to one person one way to motivate him, but you
may need to speak to another person in an entirely different manner. I know there were all kinds
of things academically that I learned, but the hard and fruitful lessons in leadership have stayed
with me much longer.

Excerpt from Out of Reach:

“The funny thing about a lie is that once it has been said and believed, it lives and becomes.
It can’t be taken back. It sucks all the air from you until you give up and it takes over and you
forget how to breathe on your own. It’s like those parasitic relationships, but not like the shark
and the little remora that politely cleans the shark’s skin and sometimes attaches itself to its
underbelly. No, it is more like a tapeworm eating someone from the inside out.”
