She Said/ She Said review of Severed by Lizzy Ford & Julia Crane (review & giveaway)

Severed {Starwalkers series #1}
Release date: February 1st 2014

Two sisters with special gifts and an unbreakable bond ...

Cyena and Tyana were born to powerful parents who are among the ruling class on their planet. Their lives are pampered but isolated, constricted to the city walls in which they were born.

Fun loving with a rare but powerful mind power, Tyana is accustomed to being treated like a princess and using her influence to get anything she wants – including protecting her sister from the elders and students who look down on her. The opposite of Tyana in most ways, Cyena’s second-class mind skills make others view her as a blemish on the family bloodline. No one but her sister believes in her.

They don’t know that a war is brewing, until it erupts. A class war tears their perfect world a part, leaving them helpless, alone and worse –severed from one another.

Each girl will risk her life to find the other, and each will be challenged to hone her powers in order to survive environments unlike any they’ve ever experienced.

Can the connection between twins Cyena and Tyana be severed, even when they are worlds apart? Cyena constantly practices her abilities, and she is just as constantly ridiculed by her peers for her inability to master them. What they seem to keep forgetting is that Cyena possesmultiple abilities, unlike anyone else. Her twin sister Tyanas gift comes more naturally, and she is the only person that truly believes in Cyena. Tyana is very protective of her sister, but when push comes to shove, Cyena shows her strengths.

Tams: Its hard for me to say what I loved most about this story. Twins with the ability to read minds and jump worlds is at the top of my list though! How about you Jess, what are your overall thoughts on this fantastic story?

Jess: What did I love most about this story? Totally enjoyed the originality these authors threw in here! I felt like I was reading something fresh and new!!

Tams: In this dystopian society, people are judged by their powers. Cyena has led a mixed kind of life. As the twin of the next Starwalker and the daughter of an elite, shes led a life of privilege. But her power isnt considered to be important within their world, so she has been ridiculed and picked on. As the story progresses though, we learn that Cyena is stronger than anyone could have expected, including Cyena herself. What did you see in Cyena, Jess?

Jess: Ah yes, the ridicule from her supposed equals of royal bloodlines...well I knew there was something underlying there and more than anything I was happy to see that she had a strong ally in her sister. Without that I think Cyena would have had more troubles in her world.

Tams: Tyana is obviously the stronger of the twins. Not just with her ability, but internally and emotionally as well. Strength, weakness and abilities aside; nothing is more important to Tyana than her sister and keeping her safe. How did you read Tyana, Jess?

Jess: With Tyana being given what seems to be all the best in everything, good looks, powers, royal bloodlines...you think you would want to dislike her for her sister! But her devotion to Cyena is so strong and so full of love you immediately stand beside her to give Cyena happiness.

Tams: I did not like Welon from the start. He acted like Cyena being a virgin was a bad thing. What an ass! Now the mysterious Kaydon, him I like. Morals and a backbone, I cannot wait to see where the story takes him and Cyena. How about you Jess? Which guy are you rooting for??

Jess: No way am I rooting for Welon!! He can go get lost in the galaxy! Kaydon *sigh* I love the mystery behind him. Team Kaydon for sure!!!

Tams: Just when the story got going, it ended! Holy cliffhanger!! I love how the sisters are fiercely loyal to each other, but much like their gifts they have completely different personalities. They are now worlds apart and Im anxious to see how they will come back together, and who else made it out of that battle alive. Your final thoughts Jess?

Jess: I'm not one for cliffhangers! I like to say I hate to love them and love to hate them! And this time this duo authorship gave us a doozy! I was like 'noooooooo!' Need more!! Need more!! I was completely invested and then they manage so many emotions on you toward the end and just leave you hanging like masters of their workmanship! I adore these sisters and can't wait to see what this jumbled up new life will bring for them!

Sneak Peak at book #2 in the Starwalker series, Trapped.
Releasing February 16th 2014.

Trapped on the war-riddled planet of Lemuria, Cyena must hide her true identity if she is to survive. She seeks refuge with a small pocket of other elites in hiding, only to find herself in more danger with them than she was on her own. Cyena is one of the only members of the most elite Lemurrian bloodlines to survive the invasion, which makes her a bargaining chip the others want to trade to the insurgents in the hope of buying their own amnesty.

Cyena uncovers their plan and works hard to hone her psychic skills, knowing the same skills that condemned her before the war are all that will save her now.

To complicate matters, Kaydon, her rescuer and the son of the rebellion’s leader, offers her sanctuary. But if she leaves the city with him, she loses any chance of discovering what happened to her sister. If she stays, she risks being killed.

Uncertain who to trust and what to do, Cyena will face untold challenges to find some trace of her sister.
