The Wasteland
In another world, one far removed in time and space altogether, a timeless journey awaits. The path is steep, the road is long, and it encompasses a wild evil. Here, in a place entirely different from our own, we discover the lost remains of a once vast empire and a love story long forgotten.
In The Wasteland, set against a barren landscape, we find a terrified woman named Lylah. She races along the overgrown highways of a war-torn country, pursued by a deadly enemy. Try as she might, Lylah remembers nothing about her past or who she is. Without quite meaning to, she stumbles upon a sinister forest and a small tribe of people. They have dark skin and hair. They speak in thick accents. Nothing about them is familiar, but at least they’re safe.
As she struggles to unlock the keys to her past, Lylah falls deeply in love with this primitive way of life…a way of life she’s never known before. The tribe’s leader is a fearless man they call “Matteo.” He is formidable and abrasive, but Lylah is inexplicably drawn to him.
In spite of uncertainty, one thing remains: an evil force governs this rugged land. The Opposition uses its power to oppress the tribes-people and they are quickly closing in on Lylah. Will she summon the courage to face her past in time? Somehow, Lylah’s memories hold secrets that could destroy the Opposition and break its tyrannical power.

Excerpt from The Wasteland...

I’m standing on a coastline. The grass grows sporadically, popping
up across sand. It reaches tall, almost to my waist, and I run my
fingers across it as I walk.
I am at peace.
Peace in a way that means I have history here. I feel like a child,
nestled, embedded in a cocoon where nothing reaches me. There’s no
hint of sadness within my thoughts, only the naive belief that I am
impenetrable.
Behind me sits a vast cottage. The kind that has cobblestone
pathways and years’ worth of ivy growing up its sides. It’s nestled
firmly in a garden teeming with flowers.
The color here, the ocean breeze, the sounds and smells, and even
how my stomach feels fully content. I’m not nervous; my shoulders
don’t stoop. I stand straight and confident, and I walk away from the
cottage—slowly, ever so slowly toward the water.
The dress I wear is brightly colored and feels like it weighs nothing
at all.
So this is freedom and what it really is to be a free woman—clean,
unaffected.
I hear the sound of horse hooves, swift movement along the
sand. Glancing up, but not startled, I see a large steed. His rider is a
magnificent, handsome man.
His hair is blonde; his skin, the color of summer wheat.
When he spots me, his face breaks forth in a smile that stretches wide.
That jaw and that mouth, the rows of white teeth, the way he
moves to raise his hand in greeting. I let out a laugh, then a whopping
scream of joy!
It’s been too long! How I’ve wanted to see his face!
I start to run toward the horse and the rider. The man jumps out
of the saddle with a laugh that booms through the air. He drops the
reigns and jogs toward me.
My sandals are filled with sand, but I don’t pay them any mind.
All that matters is him. I can’t run fast enough. And when he is barely
near, I leap up into his arms. My hands clasp around his neck, and I
squeeze myself in tight.
He smells sweet and musky. I try to breathe him in so deep, so deep
that I’ll never forget.
“I’ve missed you, Lylah.” His voice is muffled by my hair.
“And I’ve missed you.” Tears fill my eyes because I know it’s true.”
