Held Hostage (Sin City Uniforms book #4) blog tour | Review, Character Interview, Excerpt & Giveaway {Pride Promotions}

SWAT officer, Cole, can handle just about anything, until he rescues Brett—a man who makes him question all he’s ever believed about love.

As a member of the Las Vegas Police Department's SWAT team, Cole has seen his fair share of danger, but he's never taken a chance on love. He's willing to have some fun when the mood strikes him, but he's married to the job. Called in on a hostage situation, Cole is prepared for anything and everything…except for the brave and beautiful Brett.

Brett has been burned before, most recently by Officer Parker McLean. He's hoping to settle down in Vegas, perhaps find someone he can build a life with. The last thing Brett's looking for is another man in uniform. But when he meets Cole, there's an attraction that can't be denied. Still, he hadn’t expected to fall for the chiseled alpha.

What begins as nothing more than two people experiencing a great night together spirals into something far deeper. But will Brett be able to handle the stress that comes with having a lover who constantly puts his life in jeopardy? And can Cole risk his heart on an everyday hero, or will the job he knows so well remain his top priority?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of mild BDSM.

Publisher's Note: This book is best read as part of a series but can be read as a standalone.

Tams 5 Star review *****

As an LVPD Swat officer, Cole has learned how to separate business and pleasure. Hell, he and his hostage negotiator even have a ‘friends with benefits’ thing going. Then a call comes in that a local department store is under fire, there are hostages, and Cole comes face to face with the one man that has captivated his thoughts since the night he saw him at a local bar.

Brett doesn’t have the best track record with men, especially men in uniform. Leather however, leather he can do. Then a cute little twink bellies up to the bar and bats his eyelashes at the man in leather, and Brett feels shot down before he even had a chance to make a move. Fate has a way of intervening when she’s thrown off course though. Imagine Brett’s surprise when the store he manages is held up at gun point, and the officer that saves his life is the man in leather.

Brett is an emotional wreck after the day’s events. He just wants to be held, to feel protected, even if it is only for one night. Cole is a bit wrecked as well, the man that doesn’t like attachments finds himself very attached to the smart, standoffish blonde that is always immaculately dressed and well spoken. It’s just supposed to be one night of unbridled passion, with a little bit of domination. But then those pesky feelings get involved and both men wind up held hostage to the threat of falling in love.

What Knight did with this story was take her love of BDSM and her uncanny ability to write contemporary romance and merge the two. Cole is a big boy; he’s used to being in charge and getting what he wants. Brett is more than willing to submit to Cole, to let go of all his inhibitions and let the man control him in the bedroom. I especially enjoyed the banter back and forth between Cole and Brett during sexy time. How Cole, while wanting to dominate and take control, always made sure his lover was okay physically, mentally and emotionally. They both struggled with different things as well. Cole so used to being a loner, almost pushes Brett away completely because he fears opening his heart to the man will somehow take away some of his control. And Brett has always drawn inward and kept his feelings to himself, but Cole can pull anything out of him pretty much from that first night they spend together. So while communication was a struggle at first, Cole made sure those lines remained open.

Definitely a must read and a fantastic installment to this series. If you are a fan of sexy men in uniform, overbearing alpha males, sweaty man sex where one of the men might be tied to a head board while being ravaging and romanced by his big, brooding lover… you are going to love this book!

Character Interview with Brett...

So Brett, tell us, how did you come to the decision to move to Vegas after the break up with Parker?

Hi Tams. I have to admit, Vegas is the last place I ever thought I’d end up. I fell hard for Parker and I’ll have to be honest, I never thought I’d set foot in this town again. But when he called about the LGBTQ teen shelter that needed my help in writing grants, well…(shrugs his shoulders) how could I turn them down? And Parker really is a great guy, it was just so difficult for me at first when things didn’t work out.

Let's talk about that night in the bar when you first saw Cole. What was your first impression of him, and how did that impression relate to the real thing when you two finally met?

Oh God. (chuckles, blushing a bit) Cole was – is – amazing. He’s like a living fantasy - hunky, chiseled features, strong. But he had this dangerous edge to him when I first saw him that I wasn’t so sure about. He could snap most people in half! (Blushes again) When we met, he’d just saved my life, so what can I say? He’s genuinely my hero.

The hold up at the store was traumatic to say the least, I have to say that I love the way Cole made you face the reality of the situation. Are you still feeling the aftershocks of that ordeal?

Absolutely. It doesn’t just magically go away. But his advice was excellent when he encouraged me to feel however I need to feel about it. I’ll share a little something with you that only Cole knows about. He had his therapist, Gary, find someone for me to see too, and that’s really helped a lot.

What's next for you? Now that you've quit your job at the store and are concentrating on the shelter, where do you see yourself in five years?

I’m loving my new position as Director at the kid’s museum, so I would love to continue to grow the programing there. It’s a great opportunity for me to provide a positive outlet to at-risk youth before they get to the adolescent stage. Of course, I plan to continue volunteering at the shelter. Our main goal is to get our own location. (crosses fingers)

Okay, now I have to move on to the silly questions because I don't want to talk about something that would giveaway aspects of the story. Let's play a little this, or that, shall we?

Boxers or Briefs – This one’s easy. Definitely boxers – they’re much easier for Cole to rip off of me!

Top or Bottom – (blushes furiously) Umm…could you ever see me topping Cole? Uh, no. (laughs)

Wranglers or Levis – Levis. I did work in retail, so I’m still a bit of a snob when it comes to clothing, I guess.

Cockyboys or Randy Blue – I think Cole would spank me even more than usual if I watched either one – especially if it was without him! (puts hand to side of face, whispering) I actually prefer Titan or Icon. Sorry, I need a guy who can hold me down)

Martini or Craft Beer – I like both, but truth be told, I can’t resist a good Martini.

Hotdogs or Hamburgers – Oh my God, you have to drop by sometime Tams. I make the most amazing garlic mushroom burger.

Casual love making... or Bed breaking – Cole isn’t a casual kind of guy, if you catch my meaning.

Dildo or Vibrator – (covers face before dropping his hands, his cheeks redder than ever) Oh my. Let’s see, how can I put this? Um, whatever Cole decides when he has me tied up?

Okay, now that was a fun interview! Thank you for stopping by and chatting with me today Brett! And for those that haven't read the story yet, here is a little Dream Cast so you can see what I think these guys might look like after reading their story...

Cole in uniform...

 and out!
Oh my, I can see why you like being dominated by this one Brett!
The always immaculate Brett...

M/M Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys hot stories of men loving men forever after. They can be men in uniform, Doms and subs, rock stars or bikers - but they're all searching for the one (or two!) who was meant only for them.

When not indulging in her passion for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She is currently working on more installments of Sin City Uniforms and The Hampton Road Club, as well as the follow-up to Bryan and Aubrey's story from Rockin' the Alternative.

Excerpt:

Brett had already grabbed both of them a beer and had brought it straight to the bedroom. Instead of jumping him the minute they’d entered the apartment, Cole had simply followed behind, eyeing him, as Brett had moved through the motions of being a good host and getting comfortable. He wasn’t going to stop and analyze why a man who’d just told him the night before that he didn’t do relationships had shown up unannounced at his job and was once again in his bedroom less than twenty-four hours later.
“Stop.”
Brett let go of the tie that he’d half unknotted already. He’d already hung his suit coat in the closet and had toed off his loafers then pushed them out of the way over by the dresser.
“How important is that tie to you?”
Brett glanced down at the royal blue silk neck accessory that had an elegant silver paisley design woven into the fabric. He liked it. Liked it a lot even. But was it important? Not really. He’d purchased close to a hundred ties since he’d been employed by Jon Martin. He wore one every day and preferred to have on the most recent seasonal styles when he went to work. It had no significance beyond that.
“Not important at all.”

Cole stepped toward him and Brett’s heartbeat accelerated. Cole reached down to finish untying the knot then pulled one end, sliding the thin strip of fabric out from under his collar. Cole wrapped the ends around each of his large hands then snapped them. It went taut. It was strong. Brett couldn’t wait to find out what it would feel like when Cole bound him with it.
