Writing Series

Here we go again, the beginning of another series…..

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I DIDN’T SEE THIS COMING!

Honestly, when I sat down to write Lorcan’s Desire, I thought it would be one standalone novel. It truly took on a life of its own and went to places I never dreamed. When I got to 90k and the story still wasn’t told, I made the decision to turn it into a trilogy. Silly me for thinking that was the solution. My characters are the boss, and they had other plans. Hence, the series Whispering Pines was born.

The same thing happened with the Guards of Folsom. I set out to write a free story for Ty & Blake since they were the only couple from The Whispering Pines who got a Happily For Now rather than Happily Ever After. Once again, I ended up with a five book series.

It happened again.

I sat down to write a single standalone book exploring what it would be like if the submissive was the physically more powerful while the dominate was older and much smaller and how they would work together. During the story, I introduced Malcolm, the owner of the Underground, as well as Nash and Joshua. It really should be no surprise that they started screaming at me. Nash and Joshua are featured in the next book—Limitless—which I’ve already completed, submitted and contracted with DSP. As of right now, I plan on this being a trilogy, but we all know how that goes. LOL 

So, my question is, do you prefer series or standalone books? Not that I could have changed the path my guys took, nor would I want to, but I’m curious. I personally love series, and I find myself re-reading the first ones in anticipation of a new release. Do you do that or do you wait until the series is complete before reading them?
