An Underground Club Tale
Override by SJD Peterson
Don’t judge a book by its cover….

At over six feet, with a body honed in the gym, auto worker Donavan Gregory is used to people assuming he’s a dominant top. Unfortunately, they’re wrong, and Donavan’s desire to explore his submissive side goes unfulfilled.

Smaller and older than Donavan, Dr. Seth Manning might not look like a typical Dominant, but when the two men meet at Pride, Donavan realizes Seth might be his perfect counterpart. The trouble is, Donavan doesn’t have as much experience with the BDSM world as he’d like. What could an educated, handsome, and confident man like Seth possibly see in someone like him? Seth must convince him that despite the differences on the surface, when it comes to kinky fun and discovery, they’ll fit together just fine.

Writing Series

Here we go again, the beginning of another series…..

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I DIDN’T SEE THIS COMING!

Honestly, when I sat down to write Lorcan’s Desire, I thought it would be one standalone novel. It truly took on a life of its own and went to places I never dreamed. When I got to 90k and the story still wasn’t told, I made the decision to turn it into a trilogy. Silly me for thinking that was the solution. My characters are the boss, and they had other plans. Hence, the series Whispering Pines was born.

The same thing happened with the Guards of Folsom. I set out to write a free story for Ty & Blake since they were the only couple from The Whispering Pines who got a Happily For Now rather than Happily Ever After. Once again, I ended up with a five book series.

It happened again.

I sat down to write a single standalone book exploring what it would be like if the submissive was the physically more powerful while the dominate was older and much smaller and how they would work together. During the story, I introduced Malcolm, the owner of the Underground, as well as Nash and Joshua. It really should be no surprise that they started screaming at me. Nash and Joshua are featured in the next book—Limitless—which I’ve already completed, submitted and contracted with DSP. As of right now, I plan on this being a trilogy, but we all know how that goes. LOL

So, my question is, do you prefer series or standalone books? Not that I could have changed the path my guys took, nor would I want to, but I’m curious. I personally love series, and I find myself re-reading the first ones in anticipation of a new release. Do you do that or do you wait until the series is complete before reading them?

  1. I find that I like both a stand alone and a series but I really love it when a series is made up of stand alone stories with a connecting theme like Guards of Fulsom.

  3. To be honest, I like both. I enjoy stand-alone books in romance but I also love series. Because it feels good going back to the town/city/people that the author has created; like being back with friends. I tend to just read the newest book once is out. Waiting until a series is over can be a pain if it takes years!!

  9. I tend to prefer series, although, having said that, one of my favorite books is a stand-alone (Social Skills by Sara Alva) but I would LOVE a follow-on story to it. And, I will read a series as the books are released unless I find out there is a cliffhanger, then I wait for the book that resolves the cliffhanger to come out before I start reading.

Best of luck with your new series! :-)

  10. I used to avoid long series, especially if they were with the same main couple. However, I do have a few fav series that are quite long. I still prefer shorter series (I don't know mind if there's a spin-off later) and standalones.
