The 'Dirty Dozen' blog hop | 12 Authors * 12 Days * 12 e-book #giveaway | Q&A with @WriterWadeKelly

It's that time of year again, time for the 'Dirty Dozen' blog hop & giveaway!
12 Authors * 12 Days * 12 E-book giveaway.

For my part on the hop I get to host Wade Kelly and I couldn't be more excited!
Real, Raw and Riveting is Kelly's tagline and it couldn't be more accurate. I love her work and how she incorporates real life issues in her stories with three dimensional, perfectly flawed characters. I'm excited to be on a panel with Wade Kelly and Morticia Knight at GRL this year so, if you're attending, be sure to make time to attend our panel.
Thursday October 20th2:30-3:20 pm

Did I mention our 12 Question Q&A? Well, here's Wade's...

Tams question/ Wade – If you could spend the day with one of your characters, which one would it be, and why? Currently, I think I’d like to hang out with Sam or Alonzo. I truly love the broken characters who need some love. I am a person drawn to the shy, quiet, and withdrawn. Even though Sam is not extremely withdrawn, I think that I would want to find ways to make him smile. Plus, I love All Time Low. Maybe we could go to a concert and then talk all night about how awesome the show was! Sam is in my most recent release Back Off! That’s My Jock. He’s a soccer player. I love soccer, so I imagine watching his moves out on the field would be nifty.

Jeff question/ Wade  – What are you working on currently and what's it's inspiration? JOCK 4. It’s Rob’s book and the current crap I am going through has most definitely inspired much of it. For those familiar with the JOCK Series, Rob McAvoy is in all the books. Even though he only appears briefly in book 2, he has a much bigger role in book 3 because I was setting up book 4. Book 4 will feature Rob and of course he will fall in love. Love though between a church going Christian and another man will not be an easy road for Rob. Sorry fans, I’m having a tough time making this book light. He will face church persecution and family troubles along with a spiritual crisis and self examination/reflection. Since I am currently under scrutiny from MY CHURCH for writing gay romance novels, I am sure my writing will be colored by these experiences.

Wade question/ Wade – If the lead character in your current novel were to read your other books, which one would be his/her favorite and why? Of course I have to talk to myself. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t. I guess Doug is the lead character I’ll go with. I’ll say he’d like Misplaced Affection. He’s from Westminster and could very well know some of the characters in that book. He knows the town and I think that reading about familiar streets and landmarks would be fun. Also, Doug would be able to relate to some of the crap my characters Flynn and Zach go through because Doug’s boyfriend Sam when through some stuff like that.

Jake question/ Wade – If all of your MCs were thrown into a strange and dangerous world where survival relies on ingenuity, creativity, common sense who would come out on top? Oh gosh, it sounds like a live or die situation and I wouldn’t want to kill any off! hahaha. I’ll assume you mean who would be the best at survival. Um, Chris Jackson from No! Jocks Don’t Date Guys. He’s got a level head and knows how to lead. I think he’d be aided by Matt Dixon from The Cost of Loving because Matt is strong and being a firefighter he would think well under pressure. Maybe between the two of them they could save everyone else. Nick Jones from Names Can Never Hurt Me would probably be at the bottom of the survival pile.

Brandon question/ Wade – What musician or album do you think people should listen to as they read your work becuase it fits the soul of your words (either a specific title or your writing in general)? I reference music in all my books therefore you could probably pick up an album by the bands I cite. I listen to All Time Low all the time in general, but switch things up for books. For JOCK 2, I listened to Green Day. I tend to make play lists for most of my books. Back Off! That’s My Jock has Shawn Mendes, Troye Sivan, All Time Low, and Justin Beiber. If you have a question about a specific book, message me!

Morticia question/ Wade – If you could be one of your characters and live their life, who would it be and why? Keith Leppo from Misplaced Affection because he knows what he wants and doesn’t cower. Keith is strong and opinionated and says what he thinks. He is also a church going, gay Christian. He doesn’t hide. I want to be that strong. Maybe Keith is unlikable to some readers, but he is partly what I wish I was.

Tempeste question/ Wade –  If you could be a fruit, any fruit, which would you be and why? Cherries. They are my favorite fruit. Not cherry flavored anything, or cherry ice cream, or cherry pop tarts, just cherries. I love fresh cherries. I could eat an entire 5 pound bag in one sitting if I was hungry.

Jordan question/ Wade –  What is the thing you enjoy most about gatherings like GRL? Seeing people I only see once a year. I miss my friends. Online is never enough. I wish they all lived down the street. I also love meeting new people! I just love people and gathering with those who share the same interests is so fun and freeing.

LE Franks question/ Wade – What is the most vivid romantic moment from any film that has lingered the longest and meant the most to you…. and why? Vivid moment? Oh gosh! I don’t know. I can think of romantic movies. I love Shakespeare in Love. I’ve watched it a hundred times. I thought the Notebook was very romantic. And Casablanca is a classic. :D I can’t think of a specific scene though.

K-Lee question/ Wade – If you could take any fictional couple or character (television, movies, real-life, books) and add them to one of your books, who would it be and why? OOOH, way to ask the difficult ones! Um, maybe Kane Morgan and Miki St John. Maybe Miki comes to town for a concert with Crossroads Gin and Kane has car trouble. He can take his car to Tristan’s Shop (from Bankers’ Hours). All the soccer dudes could be at the concert. Heck, ALL my characters could be there since most of them live in Westminster!

AE question/ Wade – What kind of quirky habits do you have before or during the time you write? I just like quiet. No weird habits. Sometimes I’ll listen to specific music, but for the most part I need to be alone with my thoughts.
Alexa question/ Wade – When you write, do your characters hijack the story, or do you keep a tight grip on the reins? The characters hijack things for sure!

Great answers Wade, I'll be interested to read everyone else's over the next 12 days.

Now for the good stuff - have you read Wade Kelly's latest release? Back Off! That's my Jock is the 3rd book in the Jock series by Kelly and it has to be one of my favorite MM series. Let me tell you about this book...

Defining his sexuality didn’t make sense until his best friend spelled it out.

Doug Archer did some pretty idiotic things in the first eight weeks of his junior year of college. First, he kissed his gay best friend, and second, he kissed a guy he’d mistaken for a girl. Not stellar moments for Doug. If he isn’t careful, he’ll lose his spot on the soccer team to the new freshman, or worse, he might misconstrue his new friend Rob’s overly affectionate tendencies for flirting. But if Doug isn’t bothered by another guy’s attention, and he normally dates girls, does that mean he’s gay or bisexual?

Sam Garber suppressed his same-sex attraction his entire life. His father told him it was immoral, and Sam did everything he could to bury his feelings. However, after meeting Doug at a party and kissing him, Sam can’t think of anything else. He decides dating girls is the best way to keep his secret hidden. With playoffs in sight, this is no time to think about guys in any other context than soccer. Only neither boy anticipates the difficulty in suppressing his attraction for another jock!

Don't forget to stop by our panel or our tables during the signings at GRL and say hi.
Wade and I both will have some fun swag at our tables, first come first grab.
We look forward to seeing you in Kansas City in two weeks!!

Wade Kelly lives and writes in conservative, small-town America on the east coast where it’s not easy to live free and open in one's beliefs. Wade writes passionately about controversial issues and strives to make a difference by making people think. Wade does not have a background in writing or philosophy, but still draws from personal experience to ponder contentious subjects on paper. There is a lot of pain in the world and people need hope. When not writing, she is thinking about writing, and more than likely scribbling ideas on sticky notes in the car while playing "taxi driver" for her children. She likes snakes, can’t spell, and has a tendency to make people cry.
