If you can peel your eyes off the cover to actually read the book you won't regret it. The story is short enough to not bore you and long enough to get a great, well-written story packed with amazing characters and great story-line as well.
Holden works for his dad in a prestigious surgical company with an open budget for his testing, though his dad holds power over him by flaunting the loan he owes him and taking most of his pay to pay him back. He sends him to Alaska on an impossible mission to Bring back Gage his ex-partner or he will be fired, lose his apartment and trust fund. With no choice, he goes to Alaska and Gage is more than he expected.
Gage has a good reason he left the company he helped build to come to Alaska where his best friend Logan and he works at the community hospital in Sawyers Ferry, a remote island you can only reach by boat or air. He is now happy except for the fact that finding a man is pretty much out of the question and he doesn't do hookups anyhow. In waltz Holden, young and gorgeous and a pain in the backside ( not in a good way).
I loved the instant dynamics between these two men. Gage adamant he doesn't want to hear what Preston has to say and Holden not taking no for an answer until he listens. It's funny how he looks like a stalker and there is some cute comment back and forth. Then Holden gets stranded in Gage's driveway. In blizzard. Gage finally gives in feeling sorry and invites him in with strict rules... he can't watch him sleep and he can't speak. I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the banter, then Holden asks if he is sure he doesn't want to hear.. Gage says nothing will make him go back and Holden takes off his shirt and plops in his lap. Let the sexy times begin!
Gage has a best friend Logan that is awesome and intriguing and Holden has a best friend Frankie that steals some page time. I love Frankie and really want to see his story! The setting is awesome and well done without a lot of just describing backdrops. Cate Ashwood paints the picture in action s. The storyline is good and there is some nailbiting action scenes at the hospital and a twist at the end that left my mouth gaping. The sex is hot and just enough to enhance the story. I didn't skim a line! The epilogue left me swooning.
Now...I need Logan and Frankie's story ( not necessarily together!) I could read two ( or more) books in this series right away, please!
Cate discovered her love for books of all kinds early on, but romance is where her heart truly lies. She is addicted to the happily ever afters and the journey the characters take to get there. Currently residing in White Rock, B.C, Cate loves living just a stone's throw from the ocean. When she's not writing, she can be found consuming coffee at an alarming rate while wrangling her toddler, her husband, and their two cats.
Cate loves to hear from readers. You can find her here:
i haven't read anything from cate yet so this review was great for me
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great review, Cat. Yeah, that cover, and since I've been to Alaska, I'd like to see what Cate does with it. - Purple Reader,
