The Case of the Sexy Shakespearean (A Middlemark Mystery) by Tara Lain | Cat's Release day Review, Excerpt & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @taralain @TTCBooksandmore

Dr. Llewellyn Lewis leads a double life, as both an awkward but distinguished history professor and the more flamboyant Ramon Rondell, infamous writer of sensational historical theories. It's Ramon who first sets eyes on a gorgeous young man dancing in a club, but Llewellyn who meets teaching assistant Blaise Arthur formally at an event held for wealthy socialite Anne de Vere, descendant of Edward de Vere, seventeenth Earl of Oxford-who some believe was the real Shakespeare. Anne wants Llewellyn to prove that claim, even though many have tried and failed. And she's willing to offer a hefty donation to the university if he succeeds.
It also means a chance for Llewellyn to get to know Blaise much better.
Not everyone thinks Llewellyn should take the case-or the money. Between feuding siblings, rival patrons, jealous colleagues, and greedy administrators, almost anyone could be trying to thwart his work... and one of them is willing to kill to do it.
When Anne de Vere turns up dead, the police believe Blaise is the murderer. Only the shy, stuttering professor who has won his heart can prove otherwise...

The case if the Sexy Shakesperean is a fun, easy to read, page-turning mystery. I liked Llewellyn a lot.  His lisp gave him extra character, though I wondered how he got by as a history professor and speaking, however, brushing that aside since its fiction, I fond that trait made him adorable.  There are many likable characters in this story such as his assistant Maria. As in all cozies, there are a lot of characters and that helps throw you off the who did it. I didn't connect with Blaise for some reason like I should have but I did like him and towards the end, he redeems himself in my eyes.

There are lots of twists and I didn't guess the outcome. If you are looking for a fun cozy mystery, like sexy professors, lots of twists, some sweet man-love, and three adorable cats, you will like this.

Excerpt..

THE MUSIC flowed through him like wine—like freedom—and Ramon threw his head back, letting the swish of hair against his shoulders tickle him as he danced. One of his partners, a big muscular stud with tattoos on his neck, leaned over and kissed Ramon’s cheek. Strutting away, Ramon just laughed. We all love our illusions, and I’m his.
Not to be outdone, the pretty blonde girl who had also leaped onto the floor to dougie with Ramon shook her pert chest against his back. Bless her heart, she’d misjudged her target, but he gave her a butt bump in return, and she giggled.
The music crashed to an end, and Ramon swept a bow at both partners. They both looked like they’d enjoy a second act of some kind, but he tipped an imaginary hat and walked back to the bar, where that handsome dude with the silver hair had promised to save Ramon’s seat. Ramon didn’t get out much. Only rarely did he feel comfortable enough to go out and meet the public. He needed all the good reactions he could soak up, like fuel to keep him going until the next time.
Sure enough, there sat Silver Fox at the bar, gazing at him with open admiration while draping a very expensively clad leg over the empty barstool. Ramon gave him a grin. “For me?”
Silver Fox chuckled soft and low. “If not, I’ve almost lost my leg at the knee three times for nothing.” He gracefully removed his appendage, and Ramon slid onto the seat, grabbing the icy craft beer the bartender had left in his absence. He wrinkled his nose. Yuk, it’s yeasty. He flicked the hair from his eyes with a toss of his head and pushed the glass toward the bear of a bartender. “This is caca, darling. Bring me a glass of champagne instead, please.” He turned on his barstool toward the crowd, where a wall of people had formed between him and the dance floor, all of them clapping and whistling like they were watching WWF with oiled fighters.
A young guy with dark, slightly wild eyes separated from the crowd and stepped toward him, staring at the floor. Kind of cute. Kind of not. The guy glanced up through heavily mascaraed lashes. “Excuse me. Are you by any chance Ramon Rondell?”
Ramon frowned and looked around warily, then tried to return to pleasant face as fast as possible. “Where did you get that information?”
“Uh, I saw you come in and asked the guy at the door who you were. He said your name was Rondell. I was kind of hoping. I’m a huge fan.” He shrugged and extended a napkin and a pen. “May I have your autograph?”
“What if I’m not Ramon?”
The kid grinned. “You’re so gorgeous, I don’t even care.”
Ramon glanced at him. Caught. What can it hurt? He laughed and scrawled his name across the flimsy paper.
The guy gazed at the signature like he’d been given an original copy of Tom Sawyer. “I’m such an admirer.”
“I’m happy to hear it.” He started to turn back to his beer.
“Are you going to write a book on the real identity of Jack the Ripper? You can prove it was somebody from the royal family, right?” The guy’s voice sounded avid.
Ramon’s wacko-dar tingled, and he shook his head. “I doubt it. There’s a pretty extensive record of information from the time. Everyone thinks their theory is conclusive, but gathering new data’s difficult, if not impossible. I confess I don’t believe there’s a royal family connection. It’s more likely that so-called Jack the Ripper was some poor insane person who hated women and killed five in a row before he died or was incarcerated.” He shrugged. “But honestly, no one wants to hear that, so I doubt I’ll take on the project.” He smiled to soften the blow and made to turn again.
The guy frowned darkly. “You’re not gonna prove that those rich bastards used those poor women as guinea pigs? Come on, you’re the one who should do it. You can get ’em.”
Oh dear. “Yes, well, we all have to draw our own conclusions. Thanks for being a fan and saying hello.” He turned his back on the young man and faced the bar. Sadly, writing about the mysteries of history did tend to attract conspiracy theorists and crazies. It went with the territory.
The bartender delivered the glass of bubbly, and Ramon reached for his wallet. Mr. Silver Fox put a hand on his forearm. “Allow me.” He dropped a couple of twenties in front of the bartender.

Bad Boyfriend (Bad in Baltimore book 2) Written by K.A. Mitchell Narrated by Chet Daniel | Cat's Audiobook Review & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @ka_mitchell @TTCBooksandmore

Bad Boyfriend
Bad in Baltimore book 2

Causing trouble has never been more fun.

Eli Wright doesn’t follow anyone’s rules. When he was 17, his parents threw him out of the house for being gay. He’s been making his own way for the past five years and he’s not about to change himself for anyone’s expectations. For now, romance can wait. There are plenty of hot guys to keep him entertained until he finds someone special.

Quinn Maloney kept the peace and his closeted boyfriend’s secrets for 10 years. One morning he got a hell of a wake-up along with his coffee. Not only did the boyfriend cheat on him, but he’s marrying the girl he knocked up. Inviting Quinn to the baby’s baptism is the last straw. Quinn’s had enough of gritting his teeth to play nice. His former boyfriend is in for a rude awakening, because Quinn’s not going to sit quietly on the sidelines. In fact, he has the perfect scheme, and he just needs to convince the much younger, eyeliner-wearing guy who winks at him in a bar to help him out.

Eli’s deception is a little too good, and soon he has everyone believing they’re madly in love. In fact, he’s almost got Quinn believing it himself....

Cat gives this one 4 Meows...
Quinn thinks he has a perfect life. He has been with Peter for ten years though they have hidden the true identity of their relationship. One morning he comes home from work early to find Peter leaving, that he has been cheating and gotten a woman pregnant. The icing on the cake is Peter's family is like his family and Peter names him as the godfather of the baby. So he decides to bring a boyfriend to the christening.

Eli is always out to have fun. He doesn't mind wreaking a little havoc so when the hot older man asks him to accompany him to a friends christening he goes. But when he finds out its to make the baby daddy jealous he goes over the top

K. A. Mitchell does an amazing job creating some characters you can love to hate. The first book her MC was one you wanted to slap a few times. In this one, it is the ex. OH, boy did I dislike Peter. We do get cameos of the characters from the first ook since they are Eli's best friends.
The story is also good if you like a good revenge plot and a good romance. My only issue is there is a lot of sex and Eli calls Quinn daddy a lot. There is light BDSM with Quinn spanking Eli. I felt the story was fine without that bit, but that's just my personal taste.. the daddy kink just isn't for me. having said that, I loved the story itself and the characters.
If you like ex-navy men, sexy bad boys, May/December, some light BDSM with a daddy kink, an allover good romance, you will like this one

Chet Daniel does a great job of narrating. He brings the characters to life and brings out their personalities.

K.A. usually just checks in for her mail as she's rarely in the real world. Her imaginary friends are so much fun to hang with. They're more interesting than she is to talk to, too. Feel free to email her with questions about them. If she has anything to say, she usually says it on Twitter. K.A. loves the amazing escapes fiction provides. In the real world, she lives with her wife in upstate NY and is grateful for all the stories in her head.

Suspicious Behavior (Bad Behavior book 2) Written By: L. A. Witt and Cari Z. Narrated by: Michael Ferraiuolo | Cat's Audiobook Review & #giveaway @RiptideBooks @GallagherWitt

Book two in the Bad Behavior series

Detective Darren Corliss is hanging by a thread. In between recovering from a near-fatal wound and returning to work at a hostile precinct, he’s struggling to help care for his ailing brother. His partner and boyfriend, Detective Andreas Ruffner, wants to help, but doesn’t know how. And with his own family crises brewing, Andreas is spread almost as thin as Darren.

For cops, though, life takes a backseat to the job. When a stack of unsolved homicides drops into their laps, Andreas and Darren think they’re unrelated cold cases. But when a connection surfaces, they find themselves on the tail of a prolific serial killer who’s about to strike again.

Except they’ve got nothing. No leads. No suspects. Just a pile of circumstantial evidence and a whole lot of hunches. Time is running out to stop the next murder - and to pull themselves back from their breaking points.

This is book two in the Bad Behavior series and though you may be able to follow on its own I suggest you read them in order. Suspicious Behavior does pick up after the first book where Darren and Andreas put away a bunch of corrupt cops. Now they are working on some cold cases that even if solved will be hard to prosecute. They stumble on a serial killer case that may not be as cold as it seems.

I absolutely love this series and this book was just as good as the first. The characters are all intriguing. The storyline interesting and the romance between the two men amazing.
If you like good mystery/suspense, hot detectives, and a good romance you will like this.
Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job narrating. I felt he added lots of life to the characters.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut . . .

Cari Z was a bookworm as a child and remains one to this day. In an effort to combat her antisocial reading behavior, she did all sorts of crazy things, from competitive gymnastics to alligator wresting (who even knew that was legal!) to finally joining the Peace Corps, which promptly sent her and her husband to the wilds of West Africa, stuck them in a hut, and said, "See ya!" She also started writing, because some things she just thought she could do better. She's still climbing that ladder, but can't stop herself from writing, or from sharing what she creates.
Cari enjoys a wide range of literary genres, from the classics (get 'im, Ahab) to science fiction and fantasy of all types, to historical fiction and reference materials (no, seriously, there are so many great encyclopedias out there). She writes in a wide range of genres as well, but somehow 90% of what she produces ends up falling into the broad and exciting category of m/m erotica. There’s a sprinkling of f/m and f/f and even m/f/m in her repertoire, but her true love is man love. And there's a lot of love to go around.

Alpha Unit One, New York by Chris T Kat | Cat's Release day Review, Excerpt & #giveaway @Dreamspinners @TTCBooksandmore

The cat’s out of the bag….

At twenty-eight, Nick has just been accepted into New York’s Alpha Unit One—an elite law enforcement team, composed equally of humans and shifters, that specializes in drug crimes. It is Nick’s dream job. But if they find out what he’s hiding, his career could be destroyed.

Nick has always wanted to be a cop on one of the Alpha Units, but he had a secret that could keep him from being a cop of any kind.  To make matters worse once he gets stationed in Alpha Unit One he finds his mate in the team leader. Keeping his secret gets harder.

Sam can’t figure out why he picks up scent from the new member of his team since he is supposed to be human but it doesn’t take long to figure out they are mates. He fights it st first but gives in but can he  let his mate continue to work? Before it becomes an arguement a few hours after mating a big case cracks snd they are thrown into action and danger.

I really liked this story and the characters. I loved the uniqueness too. The premise of baby shifters is cool but I’d like a little backstory. Why are the grown men baby shifters? Will they always be or will they grow up? Why are small shifters and baby’s discriminated against.  Just a page of backstory would have made this good story even better. If you like shifters, cops, special units, baby animals, and some hot man-sex you will like this story!

Excerpt...

DEEP BREATHS. Just keep breathing in and out, in and out. Nothing to worry about. Nope, absolutely nothing. Except… well, except pretty much everything.
As I strode up the stairs of one of New York City’s Alpha Unit precinct buildings to start my first day as a detective in one of the city’s top-notch Alpha Units, doubts crowded my mind.
Why the fuck was I freaking out now? This was what I’d always dreamed about—to be part of an Alpha Unit, especially one so well-known and highly regarded. This particular unit consisted of equal parts humans and shifters, and it had one of the highest rates of solved crimes ever.
I showed my identification to the woman manning the front desk. She had to be in her seventies, judging from her wrinkles and her snow-white hair. Was she even allowed to work anymore at her age? Why the hell would they put such an old woman up here as the face of the department?
Sharp blue eyes considered my ID, then me. “Nicholas Reed. Hmm, you’re the new guy for Black’s unit. Human, right?”
Human. Yes, right. Totally human. I forced a smile onto my face, hoping it didn’t look strained. “Yup, that’s me.”
She handed me my card, along with a heavy envelope. “See to it you get all your paperwork filled in by tomorrow. And don’t be so nervous. Black and his goons might look like they’re going to eat you or beat you, depending on their mood, but rest assured they’re actually nice people.”
The smile slipped from my face. Nervous? I wasn’t nervous. Or at least no one was supposed to recognize that little tidbit of information because that could lead to unwanted attention, which could lead to me getting in trouble. Totally not acceptable.
“I’m not nervous.”
The badge she wore identified the woman as Clara Jones. Clara shook her head. “There’s one thing you should know about this station—and Black’s unit—up front. We don’t take bullshit, and we hate liars.”
UghGreat. Although I wasn’t a liar per se. I just liked to keep some things private. See, that sounded way better.
Clara Jones was still staring at me as I crumpled the envelope in my sweaty hands. I gave her a sheepish grin, making sure to widen my eyes and show off my dimples. If I had one thing going for me, it was the cuteness factor. When I covertly sniffed the air and detected curiosity, combined with a strong whiff of caring, instead of the slight hostility I’d noticed before, I knew my ploy had worked.
“I guess I am a little bit nervous. But you know, it’s totally uncool to admit that, and we humans thrive on being the coolest shit on earth.”
A small line formed between her eyebrows, but she smiled at me, so I probably hadn’t overstressed the fact of my humanity. My inner voice chided me for lying to her since I was a lot of things—human not being one of them—but I knocked that damn voice unconscious before it could ruin everything for me

Excerpt...

THE OLD lady clutched her shawl and gazed at me with watery eyes. “But I don’t have twenty briquets,” she said, voice quavering.
I spread my arms. “Then I can’t help you. I’m sorry.”
“But my granddaughter… she says the man was rich. He had fine clothing.”
Rich is a relative thing in the Low, and the locals are poor judges of wealth. They assume anyone who wears better than rags has untold treasures. But I didn’t say that, and the old woman wouldn’t have listened if I had.
“Look,” I said instead, “he may be rich, but I’m not. I have to pay rent for this place.” I waved my hands to indicate the entirety of my front room. “I have to pay for food.”
“When you find him, we’ll pay you. When he gives us money for the baby.”
“Yes, you’ll pay me another twenty then. But first you have to give me twenty now, or I’m not looking.” I’d likely find the fellow who’d impregnated the woman’s granddaughter, but even if he had some money, there was no guarantee he’d pay up. He might simply deny the child was his, and proof of paternity is damn hard to find. Or maybe he would pay and this poor old lady and her family would take the money and run, leaving me as hungry as before. That happened to me once or twice before I wised up.
“But it’s a baby, and they need so many things.”
“Bring me the twenty briquets and I’ll find your rich man—then the babe can have whatever it needs.”
I stood and gently urged her to her feet, then guided her by the elbow to the door. She gave me a final reproachful look before exiting into the afternoon crowds. In all likelihood she’d be back in a few days with ten or fifteen briquets, and I’d agree to take the job for that. I’d probably accept even less if no clients showed up in the interim. My cupboards had grown even barer in the month since I’d fucked Myghal, and my prospects had become no brighter.
Once she was gone, I carried her teacup to the dry sink that stood against one wall and gave the cup a quick scrub in the basin of water. Then I returned the cup to the shelf. I don’t own much, but I think more clearly with clean and tidy possessions.
My stomach rumbled, reminding me I hadn’t eaten, so I donned my cloak and headed to a food cart a few streets away. That was something I liked about being in my neighborhood—I knew where to get cheap food that wouldn’t poison me. I was wise enough not to ask what kind of meat roasted over the vendor’s small fire. Today I bought two skewers and ate them on the spot, following them with a tiny loaf of bread that tasted of sawdust.
My hunger staved, I considered going to the Weeping Wyvern for a pint of watery ale, but instead I returned home in case the old lady showed up with payment. Or maybe another client would appear. That, or the goddess Lyadra might materialize and shower me with gold coins from her basket.
As I stood at my door, fighting the recalcitrant lockspell, someone approached from behind. I whirled, hand on the hilt of one of the knives at my waist.
“Daveth Blyd?” The man did not hold a weapon. He was a decade older than me, medium height, and slightly built, his hair reduced to hardly more than a few wisps. He wore coarse workman’s attire, but it wasn’t his. His teeth were too good and his skin too fair, his carefully trimmed fingernails far too clean. He’d probably borrowed the clothes from a servant.
“Yes,” I said carefully.
“I’d like to employ you.”
Huh. Maybe Lyadra really would show up.
