Cat's Release day Review of Second Helpings by Brandon Witt @wittauthor @TTCBooksandmore

After escaping to New York City and building a successful career, food blogger Isaac Reynolds returns to his small Ozark hometown for his twenty-year high school reunion. But old ghosts and a charged family history surrounding his mixed-race identity emerge to threaten the emotional safety that time and distance once provided.

Grant Atkins never expected his long-lost love to make an appearance at the reunion—or to step foot in their hometown, for that matter—not after two decades in the big city. But the flames Isaac inspired in Grant have yet to cool, and while part of Grant wants to shove the past aside and live for the moment, the other part screams out a warning that the risk might shatter his heart and the peace he has finally found.

As Isaac explores the memories and flavors of childhood, he realizes what his soul has been craving all this time… And a second chance might be just within Grant’s reach.

I have missed Brandon Witt stories.  Though yes, it is a romance it is not fluffy, and it is full of angst. I plowed through this in one evening and all I can say is I wanted more!

The blurb tells you most of what you need to know but being raised in this area I can fully understand the characters and relate.

If you like interracial relationships, second chances, angst, food (yes us southerners like our soup and mayo in casseroles check out the recipe before judging lol) recipes and some hot man-sex this is for you.

Brandon Witt's outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he's got plenty to write about....
