Cat's Review of Do You Know What I Know (The Heart of the Holidays #7) @kristoffershane @TTCBooksandmore

He may be one of my bullies- but he’s also my secret boyfriend.

Archie- We used to be friends, but that changed when we went to middle school. He became the most popular boy and I became a target. It didn’t help that I enjoyed choir more than sports. It didn’t matter that I stayed hidden in the closet.

But one day, he knocked on my window- just like the old days and I let him in. Everything changed that night between us. We were safe hidden away from the world, exploring all the mysteries of life. That was a year ago. Things have changed. I have changed, and I am not sure that our secret relationship can survive. I am tired of hiding who I am. What will that do to us?

Hudson- I hate that being popular means so much to me. But as the quarterback and team captain of the football team, there are a ton of expectations set upon me. Not only from the school, my teammates and fans- but from my family. Being a preacher’s son makes being who I really am, even more difficult.

My life is lived in fear, and I have the ulcers to prove it. I love Archie and I need him more than he knows. Without him, this life would be dark and miserable. I wished I could be strong enough to do what he wishes. I want to hold his hand down the hallways and protect him from the others. I do. But life is never that simple. We’re seniors and we have a lot of decisions to make about the future. I just hope that we have one.

This book is YA coming out and very beautifully written. It is sweet and a touch sensual.

I adored Archie right from the beginning and felt sorry for him. At first, I didn’t care for Hudson but then I related to his dilemma. The story is pretty fast-paced and keeps you pulled in so you never get bored. I just couldn’t wait to see how their love story turned out.

If you like YA, coming out, bully/nerd, and a sweet holiday romance this is for you.

Cat's Review of Bad to Be Good by Andrew Grey @andrewgreybooks@TTCBooksandmore

Longboat Key, Florida, is about as far from the streets of Detroit as a group of gay former mobsters can get, but threats from within their own organization forced them into witness protection—and a new life.

Richard Marsden is making the best of his second chance, tending bar and learning who he is outside of organized crime… and flirting with the cute single dad, Daniel, who comes in every Wednesday. But much like Richard, Daniel hides dark secrets that could get him killed. When Daniel’s past as a hacker catches up to him, Richard has the skills to help Daniel out, but not without raising some serious questions and risking his own new identity and the friends who went into hiding with him.

Solving problems like Daniel’s is what Richard does best—and what he’s trying to escape. But finding a way to keep Daniel and his son safe without sacrificing the person he’s becoming will take some imagination, and the stakes have never been higher. This time it’s not just lives on the line—it’s his heart…

This book was so good. I am a huge Andrew Grey fan but this one surprised me. It is a little different in a way with his Main character and his two best friends being ex-mobsters in Wit-Sec. They have been moved from Detroit to Iowa to a tiny little island in the Florida Keys. Richard is a bartender and all three men are having it tough adjusting to their new jobs and life in the simple, quiet little town… until it's not so quiet anymore. It seems chaos follows them everywhere.

Daniel has a very quiet life almost a hermit working from home raising his young son. His sister comes on Wednesdays to give him a break. He goes to a local bar for a beer or two and a plate of fish and chips. But that isn’t the real reason he goes. The new bartender is gorgeous. He swore he wouldn’t get involved with a man because if things don’t work out it isn’t just him that gets hurt. Coby will too. Then his past catches up to him and he gets very confused about things. Is Richard really trying to help or is he involved?

I think this is one of my favorite books by Andrew Grey if I had to choose. (they are all amazing) It’s just the different characters, the touch of mystery and danger, and the story lines and plots.  Of course, there is a cute kid that steals your heart (and the book lol)

If you like mobsters (ex in this case) Wit-Sec, hackers, single dads, cute kids, and some hot sex you will love this book.

I have been waiting on this book since reading the first…A Heart Back Home. It is best to read book one first as those characters take a major part in this book as well and most of the story is on Clay’s Farm.

I was excited to get Alan’s story. It started out a little sad, but as Alan got better the sadness faded. I felt sorry for Haley having to deal with a father like his and just when you think things are all worked out there is a change.

I absolutely loved all of the characters, the plot, and the storyline was really good, then there was little Archie that stole the show again!

Andrew Grey has a way of making his books very sensual and sexy without a lot of graphic sex, so it is pretty hot.

If you like hurt/comfort, coming out, good friends, city boy/country boy, and cute kids with moderate heat, this is for you!

Praise for NOW BEFORE THE DARK

"With a lyrical tone and hilarious dialogue that do double duty with its world building, the novel continues the brilliant satire seen in the series’ earlier books...whimsical adventure, and frequent, humorous plays on words, spoofs of contemporary events, and clever reversals of expected dynamics make Now Before the Dark a delight." —C. Foster, Foreword Reviews

" Fans of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams will appreciate the farce and puns that are the hallmark of Hooker’s writing." —Dawn Kuczwara, Booklist

Time is running out for the Old Country.

How does one save a nation when the erstwhile gods are against the idea? In the finale of Terribly Serious Darkness, it's up to Sloot Peril--the world's greatest accountant and poorest everything else--to figure it out.

Unfortunately, he'll have help. A philosopher who'd sooner die (again) than do any real work, a bard who can't play his non-instrument, and a spooky wizard who's often mistaken for a vampire may not be ideal allies, but with any luck—which Sloot's never had—they'll occasionally get out of his way.

Does Sloot stand a chance against serpent cults, demons, dragons, and the most sinister financial report every written? Doubtful. If he's even going to survive the dance contest, he'll have to think of something now, before the Dark swallows everything up.

NOW BEFORE THE DARK BY SAM HOOKER EXCERPT

Consider this a warning: There is no understanding Infernal Bureaucracy. Even the executive bureaucrats on the 8th circle have no idea what’s going on beneath them, for the very reason that it is beneath them. You don’t get to where they are by wasting your time with hard work and expertise. It’s mostly schmoozing over cocktails or golf, which was invented on the 44th circle for the specific purpose of ruining large swaths of nature with minimal effort.

The largest Infernal bureaucratic system capable of being understood in the slightest is the delivery network. In a central bullpen on the 50th floor, a team of half-mad demons works as diligently as permitted to maintain the maximum allowed level of efficiency of interdepartmental communication, which is nearly half a percent. They managed the various pneumatic tubes, imp messengers, scheduled prophecies, tea leaf readings, etcetera which worked together—so to speak—in the worst example of symbiosis in the universe to deliver messages from one department to another. Occasionally.

An envelope that had originated in Requests decades ago had recently been fished out of sewage and placed on the desk of Barbarella Sarcophage, a middle management demon in Interments and Exhumations on the 23rd level.

“He says you have to sign for it,” said Ms. Sarcophage’s assistant, a well-dressed talent demon who was working his way up. As luck would have it, he spoke sewer imp.

“I’m not signing anything, Scabrot. Get that wretched thing out of here!”

The nerve! Asking a middle management demon to give the shape of her name to a piece of paper! Not one of the demons who’d spawned from her clutch had ever signed anything unless threats were involved, and she wasn’t about to be the first.

Scabrot adjusted his silk cravat, which he shouldn’t have been able to afford on his salary, which he didn’t have. Ms. Sarcophage suppressed a smile of approval for the young demon’s ingenuity, not that she approved of that sort of thing, but she thought fondly that it must have been embezzlement. All of the most sartorial demons are either cunning embezzlers or the Prime Evils, who embezzle better than any of them.

“It’s not that simple, ma’am,” said Scabrot.

Good, thought Ms. Sarcophage, considering herself a proud casualty in the righteous war on efficiency. “Why not?”

“You’re not going to like it.”

“When do I ever?”

Scabrot sighed. “He’s got a knife, ma’am.”

“What? No, he hasn’t!”

The imp cackled and said something that must have been a swear word.

“He insists that he does, ma’am.”

“Straight to threats, then?” Ms. Sarcophage threw up her hands in frustration. “I’m entitled to bribery before coercion, it’s in my contract!”

Windling (Midnight Sun series #2) Release blitz with Cat's Review @EJBookPromos @AuthorLynnBurke @TTCBooksandmore

Title: Wildling
Series: Midnight Sun Series #2
Author: Lynn Burke
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: December 17, 2020

A wildling, Ma always called me, born of nature, feral as a fox.

I made a promise to her on her deathbed to look after my heartless Pa, but eight years later, he brings another woman to our homestead in the wilds of Alaska, testing my determination to honor Ma’s memory.

Saige is timid. Beautiful. Unthreatening and desperate for affection, consuming my mind and drawing me in.

I should flee—for both our safety.

But I have nothing to my name, and leaving as winter approaches means certain death, no matter my survival skills.

Pa crosses a line, and the wildling inside me rises like a bear on its hind legs, instinctively needing to show dominance.

This time, I won’t fail to protect the one I love, no matter the cost—even if it means breaking my promise and shedding blood.

Cat gives this 5 Meows with a 5 purr heat index...

I read the warning and went into this with my eyes wide open expecting a very dark taboo story. Yes, there is a touch of light taboo but all and all this was a pretty light-dark romance so if you are wanting to delve into the dark side this is a good starter. You don't have to read book one, though it introduces Jesse and Brock, this book reads well on its own.

Saige is 24 and living at home supporting her addicted disabled parents that are hoarders. she works at the local supply store and last year met an older man that was nice to her and took her to coffee he treated her like a lady. Though he didn't make her stomach flutter. When he came back in spring and took her out on a few dates and talked she was impressed so when he asked her to marry him and get out of her abusive situation she agreed.

She didn't know the exciting adventure she thought was waiting ahead was her worst nightmare. Callan was on more than a supply expedition. Saige was just what he was looking for. Young, pretty, strong, gullible, and with a family that didn't care.

Flynn was so happy his dad was gone when he woke up. though it was his birthday and it would have been nice for a celebration he knew better since there had been none in ten years. When his dad arrived with Saige at first he was angry but then he started feeling things he shouldn't. He vowed to protect her where he failed his mom even though the monster was his dad.

I really liked the first book in this series so I jumped on this one. I think I even liked it better. The characters are well written, Callan is smooth and made a good villain, Flynn was that sexy dream of a wild an-beast to tame. Another thing I like about these books is the female leads though Saige sounded meek....she was no real pushover.  There is a lot of excitement, a gorgeous setting, nail-biting suspense, and hot sex. Normally I am not that big on lots of sex and after a couple of scenes but I read every word in this book!

The cabin and its outbuildings didn’t look like much from the air as Jessie took the plane overhead, but it would be mine. Mine and Callan’s.

Ours.

I glanced up to find my new husband’s profile still bland, hardly interested in turning around to see or ask me what I thought of my home in the wilderness. Not so much as a glance my way as Jessie landed, the floats dragging in the river’s water enough I grasped her seat in front of me, my heart flying near out of my chest.

“Bit bumpy,” she said in the earphones. “Sorry about that.”

I gulped and nodded, not having expected such a jar for landing in water. Not that I had any landing to compare it to. The flight to the homestead had been my first time in a plane.

The freedom of the skies had been liberating beyond anything I’d experienced, and even though Callan hadn’t said two words to me, acting as though I didn’t exist on the back seat, I took comfort in what awaited.

Freedom.

No bitter parents to support.

Planting my first garden.

Settling the chickens into their new home—and naming each and every one.

Settling myself into the cabin and making my first pot of coffee for my new husband in the morning.

And maybe someday, a swollen belly with a tiny heartbeat snuggled inside.

No butterflies lit with wings in my stomach, but definite excitement tipped my lips upward.

Jessie pulled in to dock, and I struggled to unlatch my seatbelt as she and Callan climbed out.

“Hey, Flynn! Hey, Dog! Want a Scooby snack?”

I jerked my head up at Jessie’s raised voice to find her waving at someone.

Leaning forward, I caught sight of a man moving down a worn path through waving grass toward the river, an old dog trotting ahead of him, tongue hanging out in a cute way.

Reddish brown hair pulled back into a ponytail at the man’s nape, his short beard a lighter auburn. Wide shoulders filled out a green flannel that appeared much too small for his tall frame. Old work pants, worn boots…

Another wilderness man. Neighbor, I assumed, tearing my focus off his steady gait as he drew closer, revealing him to be closer to my age than Callan’s.

A handsome neighbor, too, I couldn’t help but note.

My smile faded as a weird feeling moved through my chest, settling like a rock in my stomach. Brow furrowed, I hopped out of the plane onto the dock and busied myself gathering a few personal items from the floor of the plane, my back to the others.

Murmurs reached my ears as Jessie and the neighbor exchanged pleasantries. Callan didn’t speak a word, and every hair raised on my nape beneath the long braid swinging down my back.

Sucking oxygen into my lungs didn’t lessen the weighty feeling in my stomach, but I forced myself to turn, two bags in my hands, and move off the deck onto the shore. Focus on where I walked as usual, I stopped once Callan’s feet appeared in my periphery.

“Flynn,” he said with laughter in his voice, something I’d never heard.

I jerked my focus to his face.

Callan smirked at the man, but no jollity lit his eyes. If anything, he appeared angry, a contradiction to his smile. “I brought you a gift for your birthday,” he said and grasped my elbow, yanking me close.

A squeak flew past my lips. My brow furrowed over his words, and I stared at his profile, baffled.

“Callan…” Jessie’s voice filled with warning from his other side. She glared at my husband, lips pursed while straightening from feeding the dog a snack.

I dared a peek at Flynn. Eyes, green as dew-kissed moss, peered at me without a hint of emotion, bland as Callan’s had been throughout our flight.

My husband let out a dry chuckle. “Brought you a woman, son.”

Son.

“What?” I gasped out, the single word ripped from my throat.

Flynn didn’t twitch a muscle at the announcement, nor did he take his focus off his…father’s face.

Callan tossed back his head and laughed like a mad man, squeezing me tight against his hard body. “Fuck, Flynn!” He barked another laugh. “You should see your face right now.”

Flynn still looked as unmoved as he had two seconds earlier. No emotion showed on his face—he definitely inherited that ability from Callan. His father. My husband had a son and hadn’t felt the need to tell me.

“Saige here is my wife,” Callan continued.

Jessie cursed under her breath and stalked off toward the plane.

“My wife,” Callan repeated, his voice dropping as Jessie’s boots stomped on the wooden dock. Coldness gleamed in his eyes as he peered at his son, his tight hold on my arm starting to hurt. “Maybe I’ll share.”

My heart stalled out, and I clamped my eyes shut, my mind buzzing, yet unable to form a single thought.
