Cat's Review of Strong Wine (Sword Dance book 3) by A.J. Demas @ajdemaswriter @TTCBooksandmore

Retired soldier Damiskos and his lover Varazda have been living together in Boukos for a month, and their future is beginning to look bright. Then Damiskos receives a letter summoning him home to Pheme—where his parents are deeply in debt, his brother is being hunted by loan sharks, and an unwanted arranged marriage looms.

And that’s before Damiskos is charged with murder.

Fortunately, he’s not alone. Old friends are back in Pheme. And Varazda—eunuch, sword-dancer, and spy—has solved mysteries before. But saving his lover from execution and from marriage will take time, and with only days until Dami’s trial, time is running out.

Strong Wine is the third book in the Sword Dance trilogy, the conclusion of Dami and Varazda’s story from Sword Dance and Saffron Alley. This time with fake fortunetellers, real courtroom drama, and … fertilizer?

This is book three of a series and you do need to read in order but it’s so worth it!

In this book Dami and Varazda have been living together for a month. Dami was supposed to stay for a week on a trial basis, but hadn’t left and isn’t sure if Varazda really wants him to stay. Varazda isn’t sure how to ask Dami to stay and he does have a family to think of as well.  Then Dami’s family contacts him to come home so Dami decided this is good as any to close out his apartment and collect his horse. His parents have a surprise waiting for him that throws a monkey wrench in his plans. After a week of no word, Varazda goes to see what’s going on to find Dami under house arrest on murder charges.

Oh my was this good! There were so many twists and I just love Varazda and Dami. The characters are unique the story engaging and I the romance swoon worthy, plus there is the murder mystery. So much to enjoy about this book and the series and I just want more. Maybe Damaskas’s brother will get a story? One can hope!
