March Author of the Month Author Interview with Andrew Grey & #giveaway @AndrewGreyBooks @TTCBooksandmore

Hello TRIBE, can you believe it's almost spring? I'm so excited about this new feature on the blog, Author of the Month. We started a little late in February with a Valentine's day Guest post for Author of the Month, now I'm trying to elaborate and share more throughout the month with you guys. For March, I'm so happy to be hosting my good friend, Andrew Grey, starting with an Interview and a giveaway. I'll also be posting some throwbacks in the coming weeks of some of mine and Cat's favorite reads from Andrew's backlist including the links for the reviews.

NOTE: you can visit the Author of the Month profile anytime by clicking on the Author Central tab beneath the blog header.

Where are you from, and where do you call home? I grew up in western Michigan, but I have lived all over the country.   I call Carlisle PA home now and I love it.

What inspired you to start writing?  I wanted to lose weight and was reading a lot of Mm romance at the gym.  After a while I tried my hand at writing one and the rest is history.

How long have you been writing?  I started writing January of 2007 and I never looked back.

What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?  Write what you know and what you love.  Let your feelings and passions guide you.  With that you can’t go wrong.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?  I have from time to time, and I write harder.  I may end up changing or getting rid of what I wrote, but I keep plowing forward and eventually something clicks and I’m off to the races once again.

What Author’s in the genre do you read?   I read a lot.  Any Lame, Mary Calmes, Deanna Wadsworth just to name a few.  I have a wide range of interests and read just about anything.

What comes first, the plot or characters?  It varies for me.  It can be either one, but its when I get the characters in my head that I know I have something solid.

Are you working on anything at the present you would like to tell us about?  Only the Brightest Star.  I sort of started with the Star is Born trope and have veered off into a story line that fits me and what I love.  There will be a happy ending, but only after some pain.

Describe the perfect writing space.  I really don’t have one.  I have worked on planes, trains, in the back of cars, on busses.  You name it.  I once wrote in the Florence airport with a tour bus of people all around me.  Heck once I was on a plane and the lady next to me started looking over my shoulder.  So I switched to a little man on man action and she got an eyeful.  😊

Do you do research for your books? If so, what does that entail?   It varies a great deal from book to book.  Some things I have knowledge of and for others, I consult experts.  I don’t trust Google and other random sites.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?  I an approaching 200 titles at this point and I’m not really sure what my favorite is.  It changes as I work on things.  Love Means… No Shame has stuck in my head for more than a decade, so maybe its that one.

Do you hear from your readers much? What do they say?  I get wonderful noters from readers, and they warm my heart.  Hearing that I touched someone’s life with my work is the greatest thing ever.

Andrew Grey is the author of over 100 works of Contemporary Gay Romantic fiction. After twenty-seven years in corporate America, he has now settled down in Central Pennsylvania with his husband, Dominic, and his laptop. An interesting ménage. Andrew grew up in western Michigan with a father who loved to tell stories and a mother who loved to read them. Since then he has lived throughout the country and traveled throughout the world.

He is a recipient of the RWA Centennial Award, has a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and now writes full-time. Andrew’s hobbies include collecting antiques, gardening, and leaving his dirty dishes anywhere but in the sink (particularly when writing). He considers himself blessed with an accepting family, fantastic friends, and the world’s most supportive and loving partner. Andrew currently lives in beautiful, historic Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
