Sometimes the right answer is the part of yourself you are afraid to face.

Alpha Jay Russell’s broken engagement may just be the best thing that ever happened to him. His ex-fiancé’s twin, Bari, is much more his type and straightforward about his flirting and desire to unite their packs.

Jay returns home after his misadventures in Centrus City to a new prophecy, an unknown enemy, and tribal unrest over a series of racially-driven murders. Furious, Jay is determined to bring whoever’s responsible to justice… but the unrest upsets the fragile peace he’s been working to achieve, threatens his new lover’s life, and undermines his position as Alpha, which makes investigating a challenge.

Can Jay and Bari work together to fight their inner demons—and a strange adversary dead set on returning to the past—or will mistrust and political machinations tear them apart?

Blue Moon Rising is the second book in the Moonlight Prophecies series. Fans of shifters, soothsayers, and shadowy villains will fall under Amanda Meuwissen’s spell in this suspenseful, sexy urban fantasy romance.

Excerpt

“I’m not texting or calling with what went on in Centrus City. Those events need to be explained in person. What’s Ursula asking?” Jay added as an aside, curious if she’d heard anything from the rumor mill.

“She knows you well.” Maximus scrolled through some of the messages. “Wondering if you’re bringing home any strays with your new husband.”

Jay cringed. He wasn’t even technically bringing home a fiancé anymore. It was better things hadn’t worked out between him and Bashir, but that didn’t mean what happened didn’t hurt. Instead of breaking things off between them from the start, Bashir had slept with Ethan—twice—before Jay backed out of the marriage himself. Jay just wanted to be someone’s first choice, but being a hopeless romantic didn’t mean he had luck in love.

“You’re not still poring over pack reports, I hope.” Bari appeared as if summoned, depositing himself gracefully in the seat next to Jay with a dramatic crossing of one leg over the other and leaning toward him. Bashir smelled like sandalwood, but Bari smelled like jasmine, another sign Bari was more Jay’s type, because that smell made his insides quiver, and scent was a common factor in choosing a mate. “Even an Alpha needs to take breaks, darling. And we’re nearly home! Well, home for you. Speaking of….” He batted impossibly long lashes, and his exaggerated nature reminded Jay like a slap to the face how different he was from Bashir in every way. “Foolish little ol’ me forgot to look into any hotels. I hope everything won’t be booked.”

Maximus scoffed at the obvious lead-in, but Jay had already intended this offer.

“No hotel necessary,” Jay said, enjoying Bari’s scent but trying to stay focused and hopefully not look as red in the face as he felt. “Only Max and our Magister are mated, so we have plenty of spare rooms at our den. We’ll head there once the train arrives so you can get settled and I can address my circle about what’s gone on the past few weeks.”

“You haven’t told them anything?”

“Not yet, but I’m sure they’ve heard whispers. While I intend to tell my circle everything, I’ll make sure it’s understood that talk of Seers, Focuses, and Nulls needs to be kept as only gossip for everyone else.”

“My pack thanks you for that,” Bari said with a gentle touch to Jay’s arm. He was very casually physical, another contrast to his brother. “I know you were gone much longer than planned. I hope everything ran smoothly without you.”

“Smooth enough,” Maximus growled, reminding Jay that they weren’t alone. “Are you an ambassador or a spy?”

“Max,” Jay chided him.

“It’s okay,” Bari dismissed. “I was prying. I won’t pretend like Bash didn’t ask me to keep him informed of the state of your city. But allies should be honest with each other.” He looked squarely at Maximus and grinned. “When I spy, I’ll warn you first.”

Maximus turned away with another scoff.

“But before any espionage, I’m looking forward to a better meal than the train food we had for lunch.” Bari returned his attention to Jay. “Would you like to get dinner later?”

In an instant, Jay was a flustered teenager again because he couldn’t think of a response. He wasn’t used to anyone being so forward with him, especially someone who’d almost sort of already proposed.

“He’s been gone for weeks,” Maximus broke in, “and you think he’s going to immediately start playing tour guide just because—”

Max,” Jay chided again, which at least helped him find his voice. He knew his Second was only looking out for him, but being a good Alpha meant taking time for himself too, something he often forgot. “Pack business comes first, always,” he reassured Maximus, and then looked to Bari. “But I do have to eat. I’d love to take you to dinner tonight.”

There was that unique crinkle at the corners of Bari’s eyes that Jay had never seen on Bashir. “Marvelous. It’s a date. That is a very fetching shirt on you, by the way.” He lightly tugged Jay’s collar and stroked once more down his arm before getting up and heading back toward Theresa and William with a sly smirk.

It wasn’t that special of a shirt, Jay thought, just black with a few horizontal stripes in gray, but since he’d taken his jacket off during the ride, he supposed the short sleeves flattered his biceps well, which was where Bari had touched.

Jay realized he’d followed Bari’s retreat almost to the point of turning in his chair and quickly sat forward again.

Maximus stared at him deadpan.

“What? It’s just dinner.”

As soon as Maximus huffed and looked back out at the city, Jay couldn’t contain his smile. Just dinner—for now.

Stanley
I have life figured out—a good job, a nice car, and an ex-boyfriend whose heart I broke. But then my half-brother dies unexpectedly, and I go back to our hometown to settle his affairs. A quick trip before Christmas. Instead, I get the shock of my life. Do I face this new challenge or do what I’ve always done—run? Or will I stay and get to know the most amazing man I’ve ever met and take on a responsibility I've never dreamed of facing? This will be a holiday season like no other.

Justin

I’m a therapist who helps people deal with grief. My life is fulfilling. So what if I’ve been single for years? I have the kids I counsel and co-workers I adore. Maybe I’m tired of going home to an empty house and not looking forward to another Christmas alone. But I’m not going to be taken in by some slick city guy who can’t wait to leave town. I’m not going to upend my life just because I’ve met the man of my dreams. Right?

This is an 85K, opposites-attract, insta-love, mid-angst gay romance novel. Previously published in the charity anthology Secret Santa: A Romance Collection, the story has quadrupled in size with more love, laughs, and a touch of Christmas magic.

Cat gives this Audio 4 meows for story
5 meows performance
5 meows overall...

It’s Christmas Eve and Stanley finds himself back in a town he thought he’d never be in again after leaving his ex. But a call that his half brother has died brings him back to find he is left as guardian to an 8 year old nephew he didn’t know he had. One that lost his mom three years ago and found his father dead. On Christmas Eve.

Justin has been Angus councilor at healing Horse ranch since his mother died, hence, becoming friends with Hans, Angus’ dad. He was very close to Angus. Justin and Stanley become close quickly helping Angus get through the agonizing days before the funeral, but when it’s over will Stanley ho back to his high powered life in Vancouver since he never wanted children?

Oh my, what a lovely story. Yes, it’s very high in angst as poor 8 year old Angus has lost two parents and Stanley, his half brother, and struggling with not reconnecting with him when they were ripped apart as kids. Also with Justin wanting Angus and worrying what will happen. But there is so many heartwarming, beautiful moments and a very happy ending.

So why did I give it a 4 for story? I had a burning question/; if Stanley lived there so many years with his ex, how did he not know his brother was there, never met Justin, and not know he had a nephew or any of the other characters besides his ex?

Having said that… I absolutely swooned over this story and really didn’t notice that until I finished the book and it hit me. The narration is great. It’s soothing, there are two voices just enough distinction between characters, Angus voice is cute and not silly, and the emotions come through.

If you like a great age gap, angst with an HEA, lots of feels, and Christmas anytime you will love this! Highly recommend this book.

Alexei (Belles & Mobsters) by Eva Winners Release tour with Cat's Review @EJBookPromos @EvaWinners @TTCBooksandmore

Title: Alexei
Series: Belles & Mobsters #4
Author: Eva Winners
Genre: Steamy Mafia Romance
Release Date: May 25, 2022

Alexei Nikolaev.
Blessed with the face of Adonis.
Cursed with eyes colder than the Artic and a past he can’t escape.

His history is as tragic as a Dostoyevsky tale.
He’s been on the FBI’s radar for years but has managed to always stay a step ahead and just out of their grasp.

When I’m forced to work with him, fire ignites and things spiral out of control. Despite the desire felt from his mouthwatering body, covered in tattoos, distrust between us is deep.

But unless we learn to work together and trust each other, we’re both as good as dead.

Cat gives this book 4 Meows with a 5 purr heat index... It’s over the top hot!

Now I’m going to admit this was a climbing review. The prologue intrigued me and blurb did say you could read as a stand alone, though I recommend you read the other books in series first. I didn’t, and truly think I’d gone into it liking it better to start.

So, the prologue was good, then it goes back two weeks and when it catches up you basically get the prologue again just in reversed POV and it feels too repetitive. Most of the story is in two parts; one actual story and the other characters memories of the past as well as Auroras memories is repeated a bit. But once it started unraveling and you really learn more about Alexei it got really good. So I upgraded my 3 stars to 4 stars. A bit of tightening up, it could’ve been a 5.

I loved the characters, the action, suspense and since I like dark romance to violence, gore and talk of abuse and rape didn’t bother me. But be warned it’s there.

The killer has a crazy fan setting curses on key players in the upcoming trial. Ghosts from an old cold case suggest that someone got away with murder. Cat gives this book 5 Meows with 2 purr heat index...

Simon is a Has gifts. He had premonitions and also is a physic. He runs a ghost tour shop since he can actually see and talk to ghosts. He also helps the police since his fiancé is a cop.

Vic use to not believe in ghosts or hoodoo until a case made him a believer and he met Simon. They are both set to testify in a big trial of a serial killer (you need to read the last book for this case) things start happening to key players and they find a fanboy may be trying to derail the trial and they come across a cold case that could be connected.

Oh boy. I just love Morgan Brice. If you like supernatural stories with ghosts then you will love her too. This is just one of several of her series and you should read in order since it follows Vic and Simon. All of the characters are intriguing. The story is nail biting and suspenseful and you sort of get two in one. I love Vic and Simon and their romance is awesome;
I highly highly recommend this book.

Excerpt

“Since when do serial killers get fan mail?” Homicide detective Vic D’Amato fumed. “How fucked up is that?”
“They don’t just get fan letters; they get marriage proposals,” his

partner Ross Hamilton replied, shaking his head in disbelief. “I don’t get it, but that doesn’t stop it from being true.”

Vic took a slug of coffee from his stained mug and barely kept from grimacing at the bitter taste. Hospitals and police precincts always made the worst java. “I guess it’s like the people who follow all the true-crime podcasts. We get paid to be hip-deep in the worst humanity has to offer, but doing it for fun? People are weird.”

“You’ve been a cop for how long, and you’re just figuring that out now?” Ross teased.

Vic shrugged. “Every time I think that I’ve lowered my expectations too far, reality says—‘Here, hold my beer.’”

“Yeah, well. I’m right there with you on this one.” Ross chuck‐ led. “Have you heard whether you and Simon will have to testify at the trial?”

“Pretty certain. Of all the charges, Fischer shooting Simon is the most ironclad, with plenty of witnesses,” Vic replied. “I’m not in any hurry to be part of the media circus, but I don’t see a way to avoid it.”

“Lucky you—the Slitter trial is shaping up to be the biggest deal Myrtle Beach has had in a long time.”

Vic grew up in a family of cops back in Pittsburgh. For generations, D’Amatos had been proud to serve. His father, brothers, and other relatives were still on the force up north while his sister was studying criminology. But an encounter with something supernat‐ ural Vic couldn’t explain had made him unwelcome with the Pitts‐ burgh police. Vic had relocated, started over in Myrtle Beach—and met the love of his life.

“I don’t want to put Simon through what happened the last time,” Vic confided.

“Not sure you’re going to have much choice about it.” Ross finished his coffee and set the cup aside. “The closer we get to the trial date, the more reporters will be angling for a scoop. I’m surprised there haven’t been some camped out in front of the store already.”

“I suspect Simon boosted the wardings against nuisance as well as malice. I tried talking him into going down to Charleston to spend some time with his cousin, but he flat-out refused to leave me here alone during the run-up to the trial.”

“Alone—with me and the captain and the rest of the depart‐ ment, plus a squad of lawyers and witnesses?” Ross joked.

“And not one of you with any magic, in a trial where the killer used spells to help him get away with murder,” Vic answered. “Simon doesn’t want to be in the spotlight—or the crosshairs—but if it comes to that, I don’t doubt he and his friends will come up with ways to protect us.”

Simon Kincaide, Vic’s fiancé, ran Grand Strand Ghost Tours. The boardwalk shop also offered psychic readings and séances, showcasing Simon’s abilities as a psychic medium as well as his knowledge of the spooky side of local history and his background as a former folklore and mythology professor.

When an impasse in the hunt for the Strand Slitter brought the investigation to a standstill more than a year ago, Vic tamped down on his deep skepticism about the paranormal and asked for Simon’s help as a psychic. Their first encounters with each other were prickly, and Vic accepted much of the blame for that since he had doubted Simon’s abilities and hated needing his help.

Simon turned out to be the real deal, and his visions plus the ability to communicate with the ghosts of the Slitter’s victims cracked the case—nearly costing Simon his life. In the year since then, Simon became an official police consultant, working cases with Vic and Ross when a supernatural connection seemed likely. Vic and Simon fell in love and now had a wedding to plan.

Using Real Locations with a Twist

By Morgan Brice

I love using real places in my books. Sometimes I relocate places if the location is inconvenient but the thing itself it perfect.

Whenever I can use something real, I feel like it makes the story feel more rooted in reality. That’s why I also like to research local ghost stories, old scandals, haunted places and urban legends and weave them in wherever possible. Those elements tie a book to the location and make it so that the same story couldn’t happen anywhere else.

In No Surrender, I use a tourist attraction that is based on something that used to exist but hasn’t for a long time. I couldn’t believe my good luck when I found the defunct place—it was exactly what I needed! That’s one of the joys of research—discovering the perfect piece that you didn’t know how to look for.

If nothing bad happens at a place that exists, I’ll usually use the real name. If it’s going to be the site of a murder or finding a body or something unpleasant, I’ll call it something else, but if you know the area, you can usually figure out what inspired the location.

Slipping in those little ‘Easter eggs’ are part of the fun for me, both of writing and research. So don’t be afraid to Google things in my books—you might be surprised what turns up!

Salad on the Side by Karenna Colcroft Book tour with Cat's Review, Excerpt, Author guest post & #giveaway @TTCBooksandmore @OWI

Hey y'all! Karenna Colcroft has a new MM paranormal romance out, Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat book 1: Salad on the Side. We've got a lot to cover today including an exclusive guest post with the Author, and, there's a giveaway.

Salad on the Side - Karenna Colcroft

Since moving to Boston, Kyle Slidell has met only a few of his neighbors, including Tobias Rogan. Kyle is very interested in Tobias, and is ecstatic to learn that Tobias wants him, too.

But his neighbors have a secret: They're a werewolf pack, and Tobias is their Alpha. When one of the wolves attacks Kyle, he learns the truth in a hurry--and in the most painful way. Now he's a werewolf too, and as a vegan is at war with his wolf aspect, who craves meat.

With Tobias's help and love, Kyle must adjust to his new life. But can he protect the pack and his lover from a werewolf seeking revenge against Tobias?

Warnings: References to sexual assault.

This is a rerelease.

Get it On Amazon

Cat gives this book 4 Meows with a 3 purr heat index...

Kyle moves into an apartment with a great communal garden between two buildings. That’s one of the selling points since he’s Vegan. The neighbors, except for a couple, are standoffish. He sees the hot neighbor across the garden one night, the guy strips and then a wolf appears...  after that, things get strange.

Tobias feels a pull to the human neighbor, but tries to ignore him until he sees him in the garden one night. Then one of his pack mates attacks Kyle turning him causing even more problems.

This story is a fun, unusual take on werewolves. Especially with one that is vegan. I liked some of the characters, disliked others (in a good way). There was a good storyline, and then a surprise plot.

I don’t mind cliff hangers but you can tell this story moves on into another book.

Excerpt

No! Oh, God, anything but this!

That was the first conscious thought I’d had since the wolf had bitten down. I didn’t know what it meant at first.

Then I opened my eyes. Nothing looked right. Everything around me appeared flat and muted. I definitely wasn’t in the garden anymore, but since I couldn’t see things properly, I couldn’t tell where I was. Inside, somewhere. Not my apartment. I was lying on a floor; that much I could tell.

When I tried to stand, my legs didn’t want to cooperate. Then I caught a glimpse of my foot.

It was covered in fur.

Shit. Wolf bite. Wolves didn’t live in Boston.

Maybe werewolves did. Even though as far as I knew those didn’t exist.

I tried to see my body. Fur, check. Pretty off-white color, or at least I would have thought it was pretty if it didn’t cover me. Snout protruding out far enough to see, check. Four paws with claws sticking out from the end of each… finger? Toe? Didn’t know what to call them. Check, anyway.

Shit.

At least my head moved the way I wanted it to. I glanced around, trying to gain some sense of place. This time, I spotted two humans crouching nearby. One of them was Tobias. Even as a wolf, I recognized the regret and sadness in his expression.

Tobias was there, and that meant he knew what had happened to me. My brain refused to go any farther than that.

The other human… After a second, I recognized her too. The hair color gave it away, perfectly matching the color of the fur on the wolf that bit me.

Fucking Melia. She eyed me with a contemptuous smirk which vanished quickly when Tobias glanced at her over his shoulder. He turned back to me, and Melia glowered. “He should be dead.”

“Fortunately for you, he isn’t,” Tobias snapped. “I thought you’d learned better control than this, Melia. Clearly I overestimated you.”

Melia bowed her head. “I’ll do better in the future. He could have died.”

As a wolf, tone of voice wasn’t quite as obvious to me as it was when I was human. But something in the way Melia spoke caught my attention. She meant what she’d said. I should have been dead, because that had been her intention. Maybe I was wrong, but the fury and contempt in her eyes confirmed it.

I snarled and tried to stand, but I couldn’t quite figure out how to get those four legs under me. Tobias raised his hands and took a couple steps toward me. “Kyle, easy,” he said softly. “We aren’t going to hurt you.”

“I didn’t mean for this to happen,” Melia said. “Tobias, I didn’t mean—”

“Shut up, Melia,” Tobias ordered without taking his eyes off me. “You’re here to see the results of your poor control, not to make apologies. I don’t think Kyle will accept your apology easily.”

I managed to move my head in something resembling a nod. Fuck if I’d ever forgive the bitch! It hadn’t been my fault I’d wandered into the path of a frigging werewolf. Like I’d even known there would be a wolf in the garden. It wasn’t the sort of thing people usually considered when going out to pick strawberries. “Oh, I’d better be careful; there might be a werewolf out there.” Right. Not outside horror movies.

Hopefully they’d figure out soon how to change me back so I could get things ready for my dinner with Tobias the next night. I’d be sorely pissed if that had to be put on hold.

The next night. Except I didn’t think it was “next” anymore. I had no clue how long I’d been unconscious. The sunlight streaming through the window beside me pretty clearly told me that it wasn’t night any longer. But if it wasn’t night, why was I still a wolf? Didn’t werewolves only shift when it was dark?

I blinked at Tobias and he caught the question. “It’s your first shift, Kyle. You changed while you were out cold and it’s going to take your body and mind a little while to coordinate so you’ll go back to human. That’s how it works for all of us our first time. And we can shift whenever we want.”

All of us. Now I couldn’t prevent myself from grasping the truth. The truth Tobias and Mrs. Frelich had been so damned determined to keep from me. Tobias was one of the wolves. And he’d probably made sure none of the other neighbors would ever see anything he didn’t want them to. Tobias, the man I lusted after, was a fucking werewolf. I didn’t even know what to think about that.

“You have to eat something, Kyle,” Tobias said. He crouched low to look me in the eye. “You’ve been unconscious for three days, since Melia attacked you. You don’t know how sorry I am about this. I wanted to protect you from it.”

Even in my current form, my heart and a couple other things responded to his words. He did care about me. Maybe at our dinner he would have admitted all this to me. Though I certainly understood why he’d been reluctant. Without seeing it for myself, I probably wouldn’t have believed him.

He might have told me the truth, though, and if I’d believed him, if I hadn’t thrown him out, who knew where things might have ended up? I knew where I would have wanted them to end, whether Tobias was a werewolf or not.

Karenna Colcroft lives just north of Boston, Massachusetts, and has been in love with the city since childhood, though she has yet to encounter any werewolves, vampires, or other paranormal beings in her travels. At least none that she knows of. Though since in her non-writing life, under another name, she offers services as a channel and energy healing practitioner, it could be said that she herself is a paranormal being. The jury’s still out on that.

Karenna is a polyamorous, nonbinary human who splits time between the home she shares with her husband and the one she shares with her committed partner. She also has two adult children and a bonus son, three grandchildren, and two and a half cats. (Half in terms of time the cat lives with her, not in terms of the cat itself…)

Retcons and Revisions

In 2011, I introduced the world to Kyle Slidell, the world’s only gay vegan werewolf, and his mate Tobias Rogan, the pack Alpha. Over the next few years, four additional books featuring those books were published, along with two heterosexual romance novels set in the same world and paralleling the events of two of Kyle and Tobias’s books.

And then for various reasons, in 2016 I asked my publisher to pull the books off the market and return the rights to me.

For the next several years, “Karenna Colcroft” went dormant as I dealt with some personal life things. I didn’t write. Any books of mine that remained on the market were pulled. And I tried to make peace with not being an author anymore.

But then Kyle decided he was tired of being dormant. Figuratively speaking, of course.

During summer of 2021, mostly out of boredom with a side helping of curiosity, I decided to reread the books that had once been published. And I fell in love with Kyle and Tobias all over again. Those books were good! The characters were fun! And I decided they needed to be back out in the world.

Of course, it wasn’t quite as simple as just slapping on a new cover and putting the books up on Amazon. When I first wrote Salad on the Side, I wasn’t planning a series. I thought it was just going to be a one-off novel. It wasn’t until I saw the reception Salad got from readers and reviewers, and discussed it with my editors, that I decided to continue Kyle and Tobias’s story.

That meant that a few things in Salad were inconsistent with things in the later books. Mostly very minor plot points, but there were also aspects of my werewolf world that changed when I started actually building the world for the rest of the series. And there were a few inconsistencies and plot holes in the book itself. Salad on the Side was my first male/male romance, and I had only been writing for publication for a little over a year when I wrote it, so my skills were still evolving.

In addition to that, as the TV Tropes website puts it, “technology marches on.” I wrote Salad on the Side in 2010. Kyle and Tobias had flip phones. Tobias’s desktop computer had a clunky hard drive tower. And they took taxis around Boston.

All of those things needed to be addressed before I could release them back out into the world. Taxis still exist in Boston, of course, but people are more inclined to take Lyft or Uber. (Since I support my writing habit by working as a Lyft driver, I can attest that a LOT of Boston-area residents use rideshare services.) Since Kyle and Tobias both work in technology, they needed smart phones and top-of-the-line computers.

Those were fairly minor changes. To address the plot holes, inconsistences, and changes in worldbuilding, I had to do some retconning, and some of that went pretty in-depth. But it was fun. It had been a long time since writing was actually fun for me…but getting back into Kyle and Tobias’s world was fun!

And now I’m thrilled to reintroduce wise-ass Kyle and too-serious Tobias to the world!
