Now I’m going to admit this was a climbing review. The prologue intrigued me and blurb did say you could read as a stand alone, though I recommend you read the other books in series first. I didn’t, and truly think I’d gone into it liking it better to start. 

So, the prologue was good, then it goes back two weeks and when it catches up you basically get the prologue again just in reversed POV and it feels too repetitive. Most of the story is in two parts; one actual story and the other characters memories of the past as well as Auroras memories is repeated a bit. But once it started unraveling and you really learn more about Alexei it got really good. So I upgraded my 3 stars to 4 stars. A bit of tightening up, it could’ve been a 5. 

I loved the characters, the action, suspense and since I like dark romance to violence, gore and talk of abuse and rape didn’t bother me. But be warned it’s there.
