But now, with the future of the entire werewolf world at stake, Tobias must step further out of his comfort zone. The Anax, ruler of all werewolves in the United States, is no longer competent to rule. Only Tobias is dominant enough to defeat the Anax. And when Kyle’s life hangs in the balance, Tobias must choose: Challenge the Anax to claim the rank, or allow the Anax to declare war.

Warnings: Mentions past child abuse and sexual assault; depicts PTSD; some homophobia.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Kyle Slidell didn't move to Boston expecting to be changed into a werewolf. But that's what happened. He can't control whether he shifts at the full moon, but he can damn sure continue being vegan--even in wolf form.

Tobias Rogan, Alpha of Boston North Pack, never expected to fall in love with anyone, let alone a man. A male Alpha is not supposed to have a male partner. But when he meets Kyle, he's immediately attracted. And after Kyle is changed, Tobias realizes the truth: Kyle is not only his partner, but his mate.

The werewolf world isn't a simple place, and Kyle and Tobias are thrown into the middle of conflict within and among the packs of the United States--a conflict that extends all the way to the top of the werewolf hierarchy. Can they and their love survive what they face?

Cat gives this Book 5 Meows with a 3 Purr heat index...

Hi Y’all! Come in and grab some Tempeh and fruit while I tell you about this book I just read.

The title is Tempeh for Two by Karenna Colcroft is book 5 in the Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat series. You do need  to read in order as it picks up from last book.

The cover is hot,  Then I read the blurb and it really got my interest because saving the werewolf world or risk your mates death? Oooh but I'll admit I've been reading this from book one and couldn't wait for this.

Who’s my favorite main character? It's hard to choose between Tobias and Kyle. I love them both. But this story is told in Tobias perspective and I just really enjoyed it.

Was there another character I loved and why? Yes, a few, but I just love Zane. He really got my interest a few books back and I was thrilled to see him here. I also liked the new Ark on Paul a lot too.

The story has two settings, the first Tobias and Kyle's new home as Ark on in Pennsylvania. Then it moves to the Annex home in California.

The story is a PNR romance with suspense.i have to admit I love this world so much. It's up on my top list.

Were there significant plot twists and turns? There is a lot of twists from the very beginning with an attempted on Tobias life and just gets better from there. This story is quite a nile iter and page turner.

I loved the ending. It was HFN and tied up this story however let us know there is more to come.  I love continuing series, it just makes me want the next book.

If you like Werewolves, and a vegetarian one that hates conflict, established couples, friends, twists, suspense and a hot and steamy romance, you will like/ love this.

There are … trigger warnings mentioned so if ….bothers you, skip this one or read with caution.

The Story Continues…

In 2010, I created a character named Kyle Slidell. The world’s only(?) gay vegan werewolf. Kyle came about because of a question posed in an online group of writers and editors I belonged to, in answer to which I wrote a 1000-word scene depicting how a werewolf could be vegan. (Answer: He was vegan before he was changed, and he’s stubborn as hell.)

Kyle expanded to another scene with the Alpha of the pack who took him in after he was changed, Tobias Rogan. Kyle and Tobias, as it turned out, are mates. And the scene I wrote with the two of them together, which came about due to a writing challenge in the same online group, in turn grew into a novel, Salad on the Side, which was first released in June 2011.

That novel grew into a series, because readers seemed to really like Kyle and Tobias, and to be honest, so did I. The series, Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat, was originally published between 2011-2014. The five books in the series follow Kyle and Tobias throughout, with books 1-3 being from Kyle’s point of view, and books 4 and 5 being from Tobias’s because readers and my editor asked for Tobias’s point of view.

By 2016, due to personal life issues and major author burnout, I’d pulled all of my books from that publisher. That included Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat. For a few years, I toyed with the idea of self-publishing those books, because I wanted to delve back into Kyle and Tobias’s world, but I never quite managed to bring myself to do it.

That was, until the summer of 2021, when out of boredom, I started reading the Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat series. I hadn’t looked at the books since pulling them off the market five years earlier, and I was surprised at how good they were. (Admittedly, I am a bit biased, but five years’ distance made it a little easier to have an objective view of them.) I decided the time was right to bring Kyle and Tobias back into the world.

That took some doing. Having been written years—in two cases, over a decade!—earlier, there were some aspects of the books that needed to be changed or updated. Technology was the most obvious; in the original, Tobias, who is stated to work in tech, had a flip phone! But tech wasn’t the only thing I wanted to change. I also re-edited the books, changed some minor details, and in Salad on the Side, smoothed over some minor plot bumps that had been created by the fact that Salad was initially meant to be a one-off, not the first book of a series.

I also expanded two of the books. The first of those two, Hummus on Rye, is book 3 of the series, and back in the day I’d written a heterosexual romance which was a companion to Hummus. That book, Beta Block, included some major plot points that had a bearing on the rest of the Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat series. I’d gotten complaints about that when the books were originally published since readers of RWDEM weren’t as likely to read hetero romance. In rereleasing the books, I was able to expand Hummus on Rye to include the relevant parts of Beta Block, rewritten into Kyle’s point of view. That resulted in about 10,000 words of content entirely new to Hummus on Rye.

The other book I expanded was the one I’m promoting now, Tempeh for Two, which is book 5 of the series. A few things I’ve written in the past couple of years had a bearing on the plot and characters of Tempeh for Two, so I revised Tempeh to incorporate those. I did the same kind of updating I’ve done on the previous four books.

But, most noticeably, I wrote an entire new ending for Tempeh for Two. This book was originally written as the final-final book in Kyle and Tobias’s story. There were to be no more books with these characters. And therefore, the original version of Tempeh for Two ended with a projection-to-the-future epilogue that summed up Tobias and Kyle’s life after the events of the book. It was a happy—and probably not very realistic—ending to the saga.

While I was working on updating the five books of the series, the characters started whispering to me again. There was more to the story. More things to happen after the events of Tempeh for Two. The epilogue wasn’t going to work anymore.

So I wrote an entire new last chapter. In the new version of Tempeh for Two, while the last chapter (Chapter Thirteen) touches on a couple of things that were mentioned in the original epilogue, it continues the book’s story in more detail. Kyle and Tobias’s future after the events of the book is no longer mentioned at all… because their future will be detailed in future books.

Tempeh for Two, like the rest of the series, can be read as a standalone, but it helps to have some knowledge of the events of the previous books. The ending of the book is an ending, but it’s an open one. And Kyle and Tobias’s story will continue in July 2024 with the release of the first brand-new Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat novel since 2014, Take Some Tahini.

Just because an author thinks a story has ended doesn’t mean the characters agree!
