Hidden amongst our society, a secret and magical race of people known as ‘Leeches’, have been engaging in civil war for decades. Both sides are desperately searching for a weapon with unlimited power that will give them the advantage they need to rule their world. This wouldn’t mean anything to Caleo, except for one problem...He is that weapon!
Forget making it through High School. Caleo has bigger problems! As the search for him goes on, the world is quickly crumbling around him. He's now fighting for his life and the life of what little family he has left. With the help of new friends, he has little time to try and master his newly found powers as he tries to figure out who he can trust, who is trying to use him, and who just wants him dead. One wrong step and being the awkward pale outcast will be the LEAST of his worries.

Tam's review of Caleo
Every high school has it's social elite; the football players and cheerleaders ... you know, the popular crowd. At Butler High, Jack Barely was as close to the top as they came. Captain of the swim team, great hair, and abs that most would die for. However, that was all before the Leeches attacked, taking away everything: his popularity, his house, his grandmother, and even his best friend, Caleo, whom he secretly loved.
Now, living in a destroyed world, popularity means nothing as Jack struggles just to keep him and his twin sister, Jillian, alive. With attacks happening more frequently, Jack starts to wonder why they are even bothering to try and hold onto the past when it just reminds him of all they have lost. Just when he has given up hope, Jack hears a rumor that Caleo is still alive and sets out on a mission to find him. But will Jack make it to finally tell Caleo how he really feels?

Tam's review of Jack
I really do enjoy this series! It's interesting to see the author's writing grow from one book to the next as the characters and plot evolve as well. Crawford's concept that makes the basis of the Leech's storyline is somewhat unique also. And it is definitely refreshing to have more positive YA gay books for our young adults and teens to read.
I had the pleasure of a little one on one time with Caleo after reading these books. Here's a glimpse into the mind of my favorite Leech!
Tams: Good morning Caleo,
for those not familiar with you or your story, would you introduce yourself and
tell us a little about the book.
Caleo: I am Caleo Anima,
and My story is the classic social outcast turned hero. When the story
starts out I am the social outcast of my school. My only friend is my foster
brother Jack and even he seems to avoid me in school… anyway a mysterious man
appears out of nowhere telling me I’m not Only part of a secret magical race of
people called leeches who steal peoples’ life force to power their magic, but I
am a supposed king that everyone wants to control or kill.
Tams: Can I ask what it
was like for you? To find out the truth about your parents and who you are.
Caleo: Well I never really
knew my parents because they died whenever I was a baby, but finding out that I
was the one who killed them with my Powers…well it’s kind of a hard thing to
swallow.
Tams: Who in your life
would you say has influenced you the most?
Caleo: That would probably
have to be my grandmother. She taught me that family is the most important
thing in the world. She has always told me how much she loves me and how
important I am.
Tams: What's your
relationship with Jack like now, with everything that's happened?
Caleo: Jack and my relationship
is...different. He's still one of if not the most important people in my
life...and I'm positive that no matter what happens, he'll always be.
Tams: Let's talk about
some of your favorite things..favorite song? favorite movie? favorite TV show?
favorite author?
Caleo:
Song: Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas
Movie: Powder with Sean Patrick
Flanery
TV show: Roswell
Author: I’m not much
of a reader, but I used to love R.L Stine.
A few This OR That questions for Caleo!
Iron Man or Captain America
Caleo: Captain
America
Jack or Nolan
Caleo: That’s not a
fair question at all. Nolan is just amazing, he is the first one who accepted
me for who I was and showed an interest in me, not to mention that body, But
Jack is my best friend I loved him before I even knew I was gay. Plus his body
isn’t bad either.
Coke or Pepsi
Caleo: Coke
Hotdogs or Hamburgers
Caleo: Nothing better
than a Hotdog cooked over a campfire.
Day or Night
Caleo: Night, when I
am at home with my family and I don’t have to worry about anyone making fun of
me.
interesting storyline!
