Aubrie wrote in her junior high yearbook that she wanted to be "A concert flutist" when she grew up. When she made that happen, she decided one career was not enough and embarked as a fantasy, sci fi author. Two careers seems to keep her busy. For now.
Now for the professional bio:
Aubrie Dionne is an author and flutist in New England. Her writings have appeared in Mindflights, Niteblade, Silver Blade, Emerald Tales, Hazard Cat, Moon Drenched Fables, A Fly in Amber, and Aurora Wolf. Her books are published by Entangled Publishing, Lyrical Press, and Gypsy Shadow Publishing. She recently signed her YA sci fi novel with Inkspell Publishing titled: Colonization: Paradise Reclaimed, which will release in October 2012. When she's not writing, Aubrie teaches flute and plays in orchestras. She's a big Star Trek TNG fan, as well as Star Wars and Serenity.
*Hi Aubrie, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today. Let's start with where you're from.
I’ve lived in New Hampshire all my life. Although, I have traveled a lot to Hawaii, Italy, Florida, Jamaica- didn’t like it, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, New Mexico, Texas, and a bunch of other states.
*Tell us about the book, Reconnaissance.
This is book 2 in my Paradise Reclaimed trilogy. It does stand on its own, though. So, you can read it out of order. There are giant alien spiders which I think are really cool, and the main character is so flawed and beautiful. I loved writing about her.
*What are the pro's and con's to being a published author?
Bedsides the snarky reviews- which I haven’t been getting lately thank goodness- it’s really nice. I love being able to feel my book in my hands and have people tell me they enjoyed it. I LOVE it when people “get” it and totally understand what I was trying to portray.
*What are you reading right now?
I’m reading Game of Thrones by George Martin. It’s so dark- it’s like watching a train wreck. You can’t peel your eyes away, which makes for very good writing and reading.
*Who is your favorite author?
Patricia McKillip for contemporary and Jane Austen for the classics.
*Whom in your life would you say has influenced you the most?
My flute teacher taught me how to be professional, calm, and expressive. My dad taught me how to have a good work ethic. My mom supported me and gave me confidence when I needed it most.
*What's next for you?
I just started writing a contemporary YA sci fi about the end of the world. It’s very secret right now, so it will be awhile before it gets out there. I do have a YA sci fi coming out with Spencer Hill Press in the summer of 2014. And I have a ton of books on submission that I’m waiting to hear about.
