Meet Sebastian.
Hannah’s words flashed through my mind as I observed Sebastian’s profile. My gaze
traveled along his tall, lean frame, my pulse quickening in response to the raindrops sliding
down his chiseled arms. My eyes slid up to his face, gliding over his sharp, angular jaw and
high cheekbones to his glistening, dark locks. Embarrassed by my unexpected attraction to the
vampire in front of me, I looked away, thankful for the cool raindrops against my skin.
Sensing my presence, Sebastian’s tensed. He spun around, wrench in hand, poised for an
attack. The moment his eyes landed on me, he froze, a look of sheer terror seizing his face. He
stood gaping at me until the wrench slipped from his hand and crashed to the ground. The noise
seemed to break him from the spell he was under. He shook his head, propelling drops of water
from his hair, as the look of horror morphed into one of confusion.
“Sebastian?” I sputtered, unnerved by his peculiar reaction.
My heart hammered against my chest and my skin blazed where his eyes had touched,
but despite my uneasiness, I couldn’t bring myself to look away from the stranger in front of
me. He was both terrifying and thrilling, all at once. The wind tugged at my hair, frantically
trying to snap me out of my trance, but I simply stood there, locked in a staring contest with the
mysterious vampire. A deafening clap of thunder startled us both back to our senses.
“Who wants to know?” Sebastian finally said. There was a sharp edge to his smooth, velvety
“My name is Dawn.” I attempted a smile. Still unnerved by his gaze, my lips didn’t quite
deliver the cheerful gesture I intended. “I’m here on an assignment from the Vampire President
to train the new guardians of Angel Creek. Since you’re one of five resident vampires, I thought
you might want to know about the mission and take part—” I stopped abruptly, distracted by the
scowl forming across his face.
Another earsplitting roar of thunder sounded before he spoke. “Dawn, did you say?” He
sounded like he didn’t believe me. Which, of course, made no sense. I was starting to think that
my father had a good reason from keeping me away from Sebastian. The guy was clearly a bit
unhinged.
