I am a liar.
Not compulsive.
Simply required.
I am two people. Neither better than the other, no superpowers, no mystical destinies, no two-places-at-one-time mechanisim -- but two people.
Every day, without fail, it goes on...
That's all it took, those few lines to have me completely entranced in this book. This is a story about love, loss, hope and choices. Sometimes I think that we all live two lives. The life we live in public for everyone to see, and then the life we live behind closed doors. That is sort of how I saw Sabine, the girl that lives everyday twice. In one life she has wealth and means, and in the other she is poor and lowly. She realizes this dilemma must remain a secret and does quite well at keeping her two worlds separate, until Love enters the equation.
This was a very unique story for me, and I've read a lot of stories. The world building was fantastic, and although at times I didn't know where the story was going, I realized that neither did Sabine. Kudos to the author for allowing me to dive so completely into this character that I literally saw things through her eyes. For the romantic aspect of the story, there was an element of 'I know where this is going', but the journey to get there was so compelling that I didn't mind already knowing the destination.
There is some violence and heartache, if you are familiar with Shirvington's Violent Eden chapters, this is to be expected. She's not one to shy away from harsh realities. But the darkness in this story is balanced well with a strong female presence and a heartwarming love story between Sabine and Ethan. Sabine struggles with the choices she has to make, learning the difference between right and wrong, sometimes the hard way. The story itself and the characters are three dimensional and their flaws sort of validate them.
What I took away from this story was live your life to it's fullest, the grass may seem greener on the other side, but who is to say? Everyone is dealt a hand in life, it's what you make of it. You only get one chance at the crazy ferris wheel called life, make it count!
A great choice for young and older readers, I give it 5 stars *****
