It takes a pissed-off Brahma bull named Shockwave to show rodeo pickup man
Marty Fairgrave the cold hard truth about champion bull rider Tripp Colby:
Tripp will never leave the safety of his closet or acknowledge Marty in public.
Sometimes loving someone just isn’t enough, and after a year of hiding what
they are, Marty finally sees the light—and it’s no longer shining on Tripp.
Tripp Colby would do anything for Marty.
Well . . . almost. He’s never loved anyone before, and isn’t quite sure how to
handle it now. But he knows Marty is his everything, and in order to win him
back, Tripp will have to overcome his darkest fears and step into the light.
But no matter Tripp’s intentions, the
cost might be too high and the effort too late for these two cowboys to ride
off into the sunset.

Marty Fairgrave is an openly gay man in a world where it isn’t exactly welcomed
with open arms. He is comfortable in his own skin though, and he’s surrounded
by love and support from his family and friends. Everyone in his life is proud
to stand by him. That is everyone except his closeted long term boyfriend. After
Marty makes a split decision and puts himself in harm’s way during a ride, he
finally faces the dark, cold realization that Tripp will never be proud to
admit Marty is his lover.
Tripp Colby disguises the fact he is a
gay man by bedding random women and quietly agreeing with the homophobic slurs
his fellow Bull Riders sling at Marty. He knows deep down that it’s not right,
it’s not fair to Marty, but he was literally scared straight by his father when
he was younger. Fear of rejection and losing the thing he loves most his riding
career by losing sponsors and supporters if he comes out keep Marty locked so
far inside his closet, you’d think he spent his time in the wardrobe of Narnia.
Tripp soon realizes that there is one thing more important than the Rodeo, a
day late and a dollar short though.
Marty is sick of hiding and sick of
lying so he breaks off his ties to Tripp and tries to move forward with his
life. He’s caught the eye of a sexy New Yorker that is the paramedic for the
circuit, and his friends and family support his decision regardless. But he can’t
stop loving with all his heart, even if it is breaking. Tripp wants to be the
man that Marty needs him to be more than anything. He wants to shout out that
he loves this man! He wants to be out and proud to be with Marty. He just can’t
make himself take that step. And when he finally does, his worst fears are
realized and when his hopes and dreams are shattered.
How hard would you fight for love? Even
if you lost everything else in the process, would it be worth it to stand proud
next to him in the end? The connection between these two guys was a tragically
beautiful mess. Just when you start to think Marty is making some leeway and
getting Tripp to be honest about his feelings, they take three steps back. And
then the way Tripp pushes Marty away after the accident, it damn near broke my
heart. This story was an emotional roller coaster full of drama, angst and love.
My only complaint would be the two steps
forward, three steps back... gaining that ground back again, four steps back.
It wore on me after a while. But overall I absolutely loved this story, this
world that Chase has created with a diverse group of friends and family neck
deep in horses, ropes, wranglers and lust. I mean seriously... Hot men, tight
wranglers, roping, riding (more than just horses if you catch my drift) Stetsons,
and romance. What’s not to love?!
If you are a fan of cowboy romance
stories, then this is a must read for you. And can I just say, Cover Fucking LOVE!!
