Will’s family rejected him for being gay, and he’s closed off his heart. Even though meeting Dillon opens him to the possibility of love, he’s wary. They come from different worlds, and Will plans to volunteer for another stint overseas. But Will realizes what Dillon means to him when Dillon becomes ill, and they can no longer deny their feelings.
When Dillon’s soccer friends lose their parents and aunt to disease, Will and Dillon must work together to ensure that the boys aren’t cast adrift in a society that’s afraid they might be contagious. They must also decide if their feelings are real or just the result of proximity and hardship.

Tams 5 Star review *****
Dillon McDowell is an excellent physician with a great bedside manner. The problem is his stern and sometimes cold attitude towards his co-workers. A trip to Liberia with Doctor's without Border's will not only teach him humility and compassion, it will change his outlook on life drastically. Born to a wealthy and affluent family, Dillon has never wanted for any materialistic things, so it's quite the culture shock to see the way the people of this country are forced to live.
Will Scarlet has been a Doctor in Liberia for a
while. Having caught Ebola his first time there, he fought it, beat it and is
now immune to the disease so he is better equipped to handle the patients that
contract the disease. When Dillon joins the team, he is partnered with Will as
roommates and to learn the layout of the hospital, town and the people. At
first Dillon again comes across a bit cold, even a little pompous, but
eventually the two slide into a routine and become friends.
I think one of the best aspects of this story for me
was watching these two men, certain they'd never find love because they
couldn't get it from the people they deserved it from most, fall for each
other. That song by Rhianna, We Found Love in A Hopeless Place, it's the theme
song for this book I swear. But Will fears that Dillon is only latching onto
him because he's the only other gay man in a thousand mile radius. The
relationship can't possibly go anywhere past Dillon's three month stint. Can
it?
There is a lot of personal growth as well. Will came
to terms with not having his parents in his life long ago, being ostracized
because he's gay. Dillon's parents didn't shun him per say, they just blatantly
ignore it and continue to try and set him up with random women. So Will has to
learn how to coexist with Dillon, used to being a loner. While Dillon has to
decide what is more important. How he perceives himself, or how others do.
An emotional thrill ride with a lot of ups and
downs, this book shows how radically someone’s life can change when they are
forced to look at the world sans the rose colored glasses. And I especially
enjoyed the last few chapters, granpuppy… I laughed so hard! Absolutely a must
read especially fans of Grey’s many works. And if you like passionate romances
that are a little rough around the edges, this is a safe bet.
