Fighting His Fire
Rock Gods book #6
Ann Lister
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Locked-down at a Los Angeles intervention facility, everyone around Dante Dupont and his Black Ice band mate, Ashton Lane, thought this would fix the issues between them. Dante and Ashton knew differently. What made this a hundred times worse was the fact they were stuck in this room together. They hadn't shared space like this since the one afternoon they both wanted to forget. And, revisiting that nightmare was not an option . . . with or without the help of a therapist.
Two musicians. Same band. Afraid to admit their true feelings, being in close quarters again has them both at their breaking point. They say if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but neither of them can find a reason to leave, and fighting the fire is becoming more and more difficult to do.
Dante's baggage isn't pretty and his scars run deep, but Ashton might be the one to finally see beyond his past and help him find a way out from the smoke screen he's spent his life hiding behind. In order to get there, though, they'll both have to walk through the flames.
This is the 6th book in a series that
must be read in order.
At the end of ‘Meant for Me’ we saw the extent of
the hatred Dante and Ashton carried for each other. But sometimes the journey
from enemies to lovers can be a life changing experience. That’s what is about
to happen to Dante and Ashton.
Stuck in rehab for their severe anger management
issues by their boss, Dagger, Dante and Ashton have to face some traumatic
events from their pasts in an effort to move forward and develop a more
symbiotic working relationship. They are both stubborn to a fault, and to spite
their mutual attraction to each other, they fight it to the breaking point.
Dante was violated as a youth by someone close to
him and the scars on his psyche run deep. He can’t get past it because he
refuses to talk about it, much less deal with it. If he can’t find a way to
overcome that hurt and pain, he will never be able to be the man he wants to be
for Ashton.
Ashton is younger and has a hair trigger temper. He
also has horrid communication skills, unless you count yelling, jumping to
conclusions and throwing things as a communication skill. He wants Dante in the
worst kind of way, but getting what he wants would require him to bend and
flow, and it will take a lot of convincing for that to happen.
Volatile doesn’t even begin to describe their
relationship. For every two steps forward, they seem to take ten backwards.
Neither of them is the best at talking about their feelings on a good day. Add
to the already tenuous situation misunderstandings, ghosts of the past and a
crazy stalker and what you have is a recipe for disaster. These two will have
to find a way to channel all their hurt, frustration and anger into something
more positive if they stand a chance at a relationship. Not to mention the mass
of broken things they leave in their wake.
There is nothing better than a frenemies story that
blossoms into an electric love story. What I found that I enjoyed the most
about Dante and Ashton, aside from the earth shaking fucking sex they had, was
the way they had to grow together and learn to do things they weren’t
necessarily comfortable with in order to preserve their love for one another.
There were a lot of ups and downs, one minute Dante would be fucking Ashton
into the mattress while Ashton shouted enthusiastically at the top of his
lungs, and the next they would be trying to beat the living shit out of each
other for sometimes no apparent reason. It was emotional, volatile and amazing.
If you like the Assassin/Shifter series by SGD,
specifically the insane love affair of Devon Lyons and Andre Panchenko, you are
going to be so engrossed in this book; this Devon and Andre on fucking
steroids. I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading.
There were a couple times I wanted to lock them in a room and bang their
stubborn heads together, until I realized, Dagger already did that. You also
get a nice surprise at the end of the book, one that fans will be jumping for
joy over.
Definitely a must read series, but please read them
in order, you’ll lose a lot in translation if you don’t.
Excerpt {this is an adult novel intended for mature audiences only 18+}
Dante worked them through the gathered crowd in front of the Saint Andrews crosses and positioned them just to the side of Wheland and Rooster's platform. He maneuvered them in a way that kept them hidden behind another row of spectators and out of Wheland and Rooster's direct line of vision, but with an unobstructed view of the scene Wheland and Rooster were about to perform.
When Dante's gaze returned to the platform, Rooster had removed his shirt and his fingers worked at the button of his leather pants. He pulled down the zipper and his thumbs hooked into the waistband and began to push. This strip-tease seemed to happen in slow motion. The more skin Rooster revealed, the more mesmerized Dante and Ashton became with the show.
Dante heard Ashton's gasp when those leather pants cleared Rooster hips and the groan when they hit the floor. Rooster bent over to pick-up his pants, then handed them to Wheland to fold and pile them on the table with the rest of his discarded clothing.
Rooster's full frontal glory was now on display. His defined chest muscles were covered with a light dusting of dark chest hair, a near six-pack on his stomach, and the treasure trail that dragged the eye down to a set of narrow hips and tapered legs. He stood facing the audience with his arms down to his sides and rolled his shoulders to loosen any tension. Rooster's semi-hard cock slowly lifted when Wheland began to circle him like prey. His cock twitched higher with every brush of Wheland's fingertips across his skin.
After graduating art school, marrying, and raising two daughters, she established her own video production company. Her nearly two decades working in video production included work within the music industry and won her a coveted Telly Award. Her 'behind-the-scenes' exposure to the music world and her love of rock music is the inspiration for her erotic rock star romances.
The Rock Gods series gave her Bestselling Author status on Amazon. Fall For Me, Book One in the series was a Finalist in the 2013 Rainbow Award. Each book in this series brings her two favorite elements together: musicians and the love between two men. These stories focus on what it truly means to love; love unconditionally, love without restrictions or labels, love without fear or judgment - to just simply love.
'Rock Gods' Playlist
Since I write rock star romance, the first part is
obvious: I listen to rock music while I write.
But the way I choose a CD to listen to depends on the characters I am
writing on that given day. As I am
developing the physical details of a character in my head, I am also
fine-tuning how their voice sounds to me, too.
I am about to release Book 6 in the Rock Gods
series, "Fighting His Fire," which is Dante and Ashton's story. Dante has a head of thick wavy, dark hair and
tanned skin with gorgeous blue eyes. His
voice has what I feel is a sultry, brooding sound quality with a raspy
edge. I went through a few CD's in my
music collection before I felt I had matched Dante's sound with Chris Cornell
from Audioslave and Soundgarden. What
cinched it for me was when I googled photographs of Chris Cornell only to
discover the Dante I had created in my head looked almost exactly the same as
Chris! I stared at those photographs and
it was like looking into the eyes of Dante and I was blown away.
Dante falls in love with Ashton quietly and from
afar, and two songs that really worked for me was Audioslave's "Like A
Stone" and "Show Me How To Live." Dante is solid and strong and he's waiting
for Ashton to really see the man he is beneath the layers he covers himself up
with, and he wants Ashton to show him how to live and feel. Having said that, you can see why those two
songs in particular were perfect for this story. I listened to that Audioslave CD over and
over hearing Dante singing to me. The
humming sounds Chris makes in those songs gave me goosebumps, it was so real to
me.
So, the soundtrack to "Fighting His Fire"
quickly became equal parts Audioslave and Soundgarden, with a healthy dash of
Seether, Puddle of Mudd, and Metallica folded in to make one sexy pot of Dante
and Ashton brew. I simply couldn't get
enough of the sound, and I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to
Audioslave again without picturing Dante growling out those lyrics.
Tams: Great Playlist and descriptives Ann. I must add my two cents though. Ashton and Dante have a volatile relationship to say the least. They love and live with so much passion and depth and while they are having their issues, learning how to navigate the rocky waters that is their love story, this song kept playing in my mind for them.
Oh, and then there is this sexy little snippet that is so Dante and Ashton it's scary!
