Another month has come and gone and it's time to introduce you all to September's Author of the month. This month I'm spotlighting Thianna Durston, MM Romance Author with a side of spice!
Thianna Durston is a writer by day and supernova by
night. Or at least that’s what the faeries tell her. And who is she to deny
those pesky *cough* lovely little creatures?
She lives in the Pacific Northwest, though her heart
belongs elsewhere. In the meantime, until she can return to the place she calls
home, she happily lives in a city that still thinks it’s a small town.
Thankfully, it has given her muse lots of amusing places to start a story.
You can find her at:
This week the Spotlight is on A Good Family Man
Jack’s whole life was the job…until he lost it.
Now he wants the one thing that’s always eluded him.
To find love is one thing, becoming a good family man is something else entirely.
A Good Family Man
Corbin’s Bend, Season Three, Book Eight

Jack Carmichael’s natural instinct is to take care of
people. In his job as a U.S. Marshal, he has done that for 25 years.
Unfortunately, being married to his job has left his love life in tatters. Now
classified unfit for duty, he retires and comes home to Colorado to figure things
out. Dominant and used to taking control like his brother Brent, he has never
been interested in spanking. Until a cute Nurse Practitioner catches his
attention.
Josh Martin feels lucky. He's not only accepted into
Corbin's Bend, but he'll be working at the brand new Corbin's Bend Medical
Clinic as its only Nurse Practitioner. At thirty-two, he figures this is his
last-ditch attempt at finding a dominant partner who isn't abusive. He finds
more than his share of dominant men in Corbin's Bend, not the least of which
are the Carmichael brothers. Brent's dominance is both comforting and
unnerving, Jack's turns him on.
Josh is unlike any submissive male Jack has encountered and
when the younger man asks him out, he decides to give it a go. One day of fun turns
into two, three...until Jack, with more failed relationships than he can count
in his past and unsure he can be the head of house Josh needs, leaves, burying
himself once again in work. Forced to see the error of his decision, he puts
aside the worries that have plagued him for months and returns to Corbin’s
Bend. To become the good family man he wants to be, he has to earn back Josh’s
trust and truly take on a role he’s never considered before: head of a loving
discipline household.
Excerpt:
“Have anyone to help you move in?” Jonathon asked after
handing him his envelope full of paperwork.
“No, just me. But
I’ve got a dolly. I’ll be fine.”
“Not in Corbin’s Bend
you won’t,” Jonathon said with a laugh, picking up his phone. He dialed a
number and while Josh wondered if they were done and he should walk away,
Jonathon spoke. “Ben? Josh is about to go over to his house. He needs help
moving in… Perfect… Thanks.” He put the phone down and winked. “You’ll have
plenty of help.”
“Thanks.” Josh
chuckled somewhat discomfited, hoping to get used to the friendliness he had
kind of forgotten in the last few months. The people he’d met from here all
were genuinely welcoming.
A loud burst of laughter from somewhere else in the dome
made him jump as he stood up.
“Never mind them,”
Jonathon said, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture. “Brent’s brother came
up to visit today and, well, let’s just say they’re a lot alike.”
“Yes, we are,” Brent
said, walking in with a huge grin on his face. His gray eyes lit up as he
spotted Josh. “Josh Martin,” he said in a pleased voice, stepping forward with
his hand outstretched.
“Welcome to Corbin’s Bend. Glad you moved in this week.
The new doctors and nurses are all arriving next Monday. It’ll be bedlam. Have
you got someone to help you move in?”
Chuckling at the question that had now been asked twice,
Josh nodded as he shook Brent’s hand. A man just as imposing… no, even more
imposing than Brent stood in the doorway and he had a hard time not staring.
Whereas Brent was gorgeous, the man behind him was spectacular in a wonderfully
rugged way. Strong shoulders and a wide, tight chest made him take notice. Dark
blonde hair, gray-blue eyes, and a chin full of stubble made his heart speed
up. Tight abs added to the picture and Josh almost licked his lips, stopping
before he did so. He didn’t want Brent to think he was perving on his brother.
That would be embarrassing. After all, the guy was probably straight.
“Just called Ben,”
Jonathon explained as Josh realized he hadn’t said anything. “Josh, I’ll call
and let Marcus know you arrived. I don’t think he expects to see you until
Monday, though. Spend the next few days enjoying yourself.”
“All right,” Josh
said, turning toward the door and realizing he was going to have to walk by
this guy who could be a model for dominance – it practically shone from his
face.
“Need help?” The
voice startled him, though it shouldn’t have. The man had a deep baritone and
Josh gulped, shrugging.
“I’ll be fine.” After
all, he’d packed the van by himself. Surely he could unpack it.
He shrugged. “I’m here, might as well make use of me.
Brent’s leaving me high and dry to take his wife to the doctor’s office.” The
grin he shot at his brother made Josh’s heart leap. Fuck. He hoped most of the
men in Corbin’s Bend weren’t this good looking or he’d cream his pants like a
high schooler in no time.
I love chocolate. I mean, really.
What’s better than chocolate? Okay, so sex can be better than chocolate if you
both know what you’re doing, but I thought I would share with you a recipe I
created over *cough* years ago that is still one of my faves. Who wants a
Self-Frosted Chocolate Cupcake?
Frosting
6 oz cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1/3 c sugar
1/8 t salt
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
Cake
1 ½ c Flour
1 c sugar
¼ c baking cocoa
1 t baking soda
½ t salt
1 c water
½ c cooking oil
1 T vinegar (Rice vinegar is preferable, it isn’t as
intense as white vinegar)
1 t vanilla
Topping:
2 T Sugar + ½ c Pecans chopped
Cream Cheese Mix: Using a mixer, beat cream cheese
until creamy. Add egg, sugar, and salt. Stir in chocolate chips.
Cocoa Mixture: In separate bowl, mix flour, sugar,
cocoa, baking soda, & salt – Set aside. In a small bowl, beat oil, water,
vinegar, & vanilla. Add in Flour mixture and beat until well blended.
Fill cupcake holders 1/3 full with cocoa mixture.
Top with heaping teaspoon of cream cheese mixture.
Combine sugar and pecans. Sprinkle ½ t over each
cupcake.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or
until toothpick comes out clean.
Okay, so now that you have your
gooey cupcakes in hand, grab your copy of A
Good Family Man and munch and read. Mmmmmmmm.
Tams: I believe I have all these ingredients in the kitchen, time to make some tasty cupcakes!

Hello ahpg :) Yes, A Good Family Man can be read as a standalone. Each of the books in the Corbin's Bend series is about a different couple so you don't need to worry about not having read any of the others.

Sounds like a wonderful series, can't wait to read this book, but I think I need to go in order.... Yep, gonna get them all... Whoop whoop!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look most delightful, its just a shame that I am allergic to dairy, gluten and chocolate, life is so unfair :( I can put up without dairy and gluten, but life without chocolate, how did the world cope before it became part of the diet!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your latest release :) slholland22 {at} hotmail {dot} com
