This week I'm reviewing the first 3 books in the Sanctuary Series by @RJScott. There is also a pretty great giveaway to enter at the end of the post, as well as a 3 part Author Q&A.
Up next is The Only Easy Day...
One dead girl, one scared witness, and two men trained as Navy SEALs. Whether searching for justice or revenge, the final showdown between them is the same.... explosive!
Dale MacIntyre, former Navy SEAL, works for Sanctuary. He's the acting handler for a member of the Bullen familys inner circle. He is close to obtaining the evidence he needs to prove Elisabeth Costains death was ordered by them... until someone gets in his way.
Joseph Kinnon, active Navy SEAL, is back on US soil for the first time in months, and he is told the tragic news that his stepsister is dead, gunned down in an alley by an unknown assailant. He is determined to find out who murdered her... until someone gets in his way.
They both want the same thing but have different methods of accomplishing their goals. They both want the Bullen family brought to account, but one wants justice and the other wants revenge.
What happens between them, however, has nothing to do with either.

Joseph Kinnon returns home from active duty in Iraq to learn that his step sister has been murdered. The Navy Seal has one mission on his mind now, finding out who killed Elisabeth and making them pay. But first Joseph has to get past or get on the good side of former Navy Seal turned Sanctuary Operative, Dale MacIntyre.
Dale takes his job very seriously. As a former Seal, he knows how they operate, kick ass then take names, and the last thing he needs muddling up the investigation into the Bullen family is a Seal with a vendetta to settle. Not to mention it would put the lives of Morgan, the witness, and Robert Bullen, the son that is feeding information to Sanctuary, in mortal danger. Since Joseph refuses to back down, Dale has no other choice than to work with the man instead of against him.
Another action packed, fast paced story with a few new players added to the mix, while the reason behind Elisabeth's shooting becomes clearer. There is something about two strong willed, alpha male types coming together that is very sexy. You could see the attraction as each man became aware of it, slowly making advances until they came to a very climaxing ending. Pun totally intended.
Sean Crisden continues to steer and create the voices that bring RJ Scott's characters to life. I particularly enjoyed Joseph, how you could tell his mood as soon as he started talking by the tone or inflection. Dale wasn't very far removed, especially I'm pissed off and want you to know I'm a big, bad, former Navy Seal Dale. My favorite aspect to this story was how the intensity of both the storyline and the characters was evident in how the story was read.
This is the second installment of a series that must be read in order, think of it as a continuation of the first story. If you don't start with Guarding Morgan, you'll be somewhat lost in the story. Definitely worth the time to start at the beginning, a series worth listening to.

RJ Scott has been
writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an
infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of
paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader
herself, she can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror.
However, her first real true love will always be the world of romance where she
takes cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and writes
dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men.
With over seventy
titles to her name and counting, she is the author of the award winning book,
The Christmas Throwaway. She is also known for the Texas series charting the
lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the
Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
Her goal is to write
stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most
importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.
Q&A with RJ Scott Part two...
Do you ever suffer
from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?
Yes I guess I do, but not for lack of story or how to write
them. I think my writer’s block occurs with every chapter 1. I know exactly
where the story is going and what I want it to say, but getting that chapter
one right is a tricky one!
So, to get through it, I write a chapter 1, and go onto the
rest of the book, and I go back and edit C1 as I write the rest. Sometimes I
will delete C1 all together because there is too much telling and I show in the
rest of the book the things I told about in C1.
What Author’s in the
genre do you read?
So many… Jordan L Hawk, Eli Easton, Marie Sexton, Avery
Cockburn… I have a huge list of my favorite authors – you can find them on the
front screen of my website (rjscott.co.uk)
What comes first, the
plot or characters?
I couldn’t tell you that if I tried. Sometimes it’s the idea
of the plot. Sometimes I know I want to write about say, a soldier with PTSD,
and the story evolves with his character at the center of it. I have a million
ideas in my head, and sometimes they merge and become a story.
Are you working on
anything at the present you would like to tell us about?
At the moment I am working on Love’s Design, which I am
wrapping up this week to go to my editor. This is book 5 in the Bodyguards Inc
Series, and is my Christmas 2015 story.
