When they were teens, Castor McCormick was the bane of Blake Kowalski's existence. Their mutual animosity led to summers filled with rivalry. Now, nearly two decades later, Cas is moving back into the neighborhood to live in his grandmother's old house. Blake tells himself he isn't interested in seeing how snarky little Cas grew up, but when his mother dupes him into visiting his former nemesis, he finds out "pretty" can evolve into "sexy as hell" on the right man.
Cas didn't think he wanted to see Blake again. No one has ever pushed his buttons like the arrogant boy he remembers from their youth. Turns out, the adult version of Blake still gets him hot under the collar - and everywhere else. With Blake on leave from work to nurse an injured leg and Cas taking time to move and unpack, they form a tentative friendship that turns into a sexual affair neither man can deny. But when Cas's job sends him out of state to deal with a difficult client, their new relationship will be tested, and if they fail, Blake's broken leg might not be the only thing to end up scarred.

(Spoilers in this review)
"Loved the story... until the end."
Would you try another book from Piper Vaughn and/or Jack Fleming?
Piper Vaughn, yes, read several of hers and loved them. Jack Fleming, probably not.
If you’ve listened to books by Piper Vaughn before, how does this one compare?
Wood, Screws and Nails is probably one of my favorite MM reads. This one was really good until the last couple of chapters.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Maybe use a distinctively different tone for the male leads at the very least. Seriously, he sat down and read this book very monotone and made it difficult, at times, to know which guy was talking or thinking.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe.
Any additional comments?
Spoilers ahead, you've been warned.
Okay, I thoroughly enjoyed the idea of this book. Teenage rivals of a sort coming together and making a go of it later in life. The intense connection from the start, the passion they shared was amazing. I think Blake's mom and Cas's grandmother were sneaky, and rightfully so, and had they not meddled, these two may not have gotten past their own bull headedness long enough to realize they were made for each other.
This easily could have been 5 stars, let me tell you why it's not. Again, spoilers....
First, as mentioned above, the narrator. Seriously, he read both men with the same monotone voice that made it quite difficult at times to know which character he was reading. Second, that "fight" or disagreement at the end of the book. Okay, Blake flies out to visit Cas after they haven't seen each other in 2 months. At the club, Cas is basically ignoring Blake and one of his friends licks his neck seductively while they are dancing, Blake still being ignored at the table nursing his beer. And then Cas gets pissed at Blake when he calls him out on it? This pissed me right off. Overall, it was an okay read and still would have been 4 stars even with the narration. This crap right here took off another star, it was ridiculous and had I not been 15 minutes from the end of the audio, I would have stopped right then and dnf'd it.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Piper Vaughn wrote her first love story at eleven and never looked back. Since then, she’s known that writing in some form was exactly what she wanted to do. A reader at the core, Piper loves nothing more than getting lost in a great book—fantasy, young adult, romance, she loves them all (and has a two-thousand-book library to prove it!). She grew up in Chicago, in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, and loves to put faces and characters of every ethnicity in her stories, so her fictional worlds are as colorful as the real one. Above all, she believes that everyone needs a little true love in their life…even if it’s only in a book.
