Secrets. Sometimes keeping them in confidence is a good thing. Other times secrets can slowly allow a woman’s soul to rot.
Whitney Beaupré has been hiding a big secret for years, one that’s beginning to wear her down both on and off the ice. Pretending to be something she’s not is exhausting. Wanting to be free but afraid to break out of her prison is terrifying. Seeking love but then hiding from it is crushing to the spirit, yet Whitney feels compelled to keep living the lie. Until the night Hannah Kym appears in her life. Whitney’s attraction to Hannah is deep, fierce, and instantaneous. The Temple art major is everything Whitney has dreamed of and more. But those old fears keep clawing at the Venom center, keeping her locked in the closet despite the passion and affection she feels for Hannah.
Can love finally break the shackles holding Whitney’s heart and soul captive?

Playmaker is a F/F spinoff of the Venom series. So That makes it a book 4.5 or 5. I think it can stand alone pretty well, but there is a lot of characters from the series in the story too. So you may want to read them all so you know the other characters and because they are fun, awesome reads. Also, I want to say you don't have to be a big hockey or sports fan to enjoy the story either. It is a great romance and focuses around that.
Whitney has been hiding her sexuality from her teammates. She has even gone as far as trying to come off as a player and acting as she had slept with lots of the hockey players. She finally gave that up and began hanging in the background pushing people away. Except for Stephanie and Helen. She meets a cute college student that couldn't be more her opposite, and they bond quickly, but Hannah is not in the closet and refuses to be a dirty little secret, so will Whitney stay in the closet or will love win? I will let you read and find out.
I love V. L. Locey's way with characters and every book she writes surprises me and makes me deliriously happy. I love the opposites attract theme of the story and the LGTBQ story line. I also like how the comradery fits in with her teammates as well. V>L. Has a way to mix her characters, a great storyline, and hockey to tell a great story and come across with a powerful life lesson as well.
My only issue was I wish the story was just a little longer. I felt like it came to a sudden end, though it was a good ending I would have liked to seen more. I cannot wait for the next venom book to see who is next on the love roster. If you like hockey, F/F stories, opposites attract, coming out, and a steamy romance this is for you.
V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, two Jersey steers and a flock of assorted domestic fowl.
When not writing lusty tales, she can be found enjoying her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in hand.

Congrats and thanks for the post, and good review. I like the premise around secrets, b/c I can relate. I didn't come out b/c of someone in particular, but b/c I came out, I found the love of my life. - Purple Reader,
