The book is excellent for a first book. The story is fast paced and interesting.

The Guns Above is well written and had lots of humor. The action sequences are very detailed. The only real problem was it needed more backstory for the characters. You were thrown right in the middle of a war without much background telling you where you were or why it was going on.

It would have been good made into two books adding in all the background needed to help understand all the action. Granted there was some backstory, but a little more would be a five-star book. If it had a little more depth, this is one of the best books I had read in a while.

Robyn Bennis is a scientist living in Mountain View, California, where she works in biotech but dreams of airships. She has done research and development involving human gene expression, neural connectomics, cancer diagnostics, rapid flu testing, gene synthesis, genome sequencing, being so preoccupied with whether she could that she never stopped to think if she should, and systems integration.

Her apartment is within sight of Hangar One at Moffett Airfield, which was once the West Coast home to one of America's largest airships, the USS Macon.
