Kevin Bivanti's dream is to open a wedding dress shop, a place with the stunning gowns to make every bride-to-be feel adored. At 38, he quits a successful advertising career to buy an old brownstone in a trendy Boston neighborhood and to make his dream a reality. When one of his cosigners drops out, fate intervenes, ushering in Casper James, who hopes to open his own bakery. With Casper willing to take the risk, their ambitions meld into a wedding dress and wedding cake boutique.
Extensive renovations to the brownstone, an affair with his ex-husband, family drama with his mothers, and the anxiety of significant life changes push Kevin to the brink of a nervous breakdown. In the midst of stress and uncertainty, Casper becomes more than a business partner, a mutual attraction that adds another layer of intensity and risk.
With their dreams on the verge of reality, Kevin and Casper must find the courage to face the stress of managing their attraction, the gamble of a new business venture, and the resurgence of Kevin's personal demons.

"An emotional story I can relate to"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Brandon has written a story that could touch and perhaps help someone in the same position as Kevin. I know it touched me.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Imperfection of Swans?
When Kieth is in the Gym and see the other woman that comes all the time and it hits him he could be her, may be on the way to being her. It was a very dramatic, emotional scene. It ht me hard because I was once that woman.
Which character – as performed by Kirt Graves – was your favorite?
That's a three-way tie between Casper, Kevin, and Noel.
I loved how The contrast between Casper and Kevin is perfect. I love Noel, one of Kevin's mom's and how she loved Christmas and would go overboard.

If you could take any character from The Imperfection of Swans out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Kevin. We had so much in common.
Any additional comments?
The Imperfection of Swans is a sweet, heartfelt story of a man wit a secret. He dreams of having a wedding dress store, finds the perfect location and with the help of his family he jumps to start his dream.
Casper has a dream of a bakery, and when he finds out, Kevin needs an investor and has the perfect space for his shop in the brownstone they become, partners and friends.
I love characters, and I love how Kevin's family is so tight and helps Kieth so much. I love each of his mom's, and I also fell in love with Casper. I liked how there was some romance mixed in with the emotional topic, yet the sex was sweet and mostly off page so that t did not overpower the story but expressed the feelings of the two men,
Brandon wrote such a beautiful, heartfelt story. I liked at the end how it had the dedication to his inspiration and told us it was based on his best friend. That made it more real and inspirational.Brandon shows that self-image is very real and also something men deal with too. I hope this story reaches some men and women dealing with eating disorders and shows there is hope and help.

Brandon Witt resides in Denver, Colorado. When not snuggled on the couch with his two Corgis, Dunkyn and Dolan, he is more than likely in front of his computer, nose inches from the screen, fingers pounding they keys. When he manages to tear himself away from his writing addiction, he passionately take on the role of a special education teacher during the daylight hours. I grew up in El Dorado Springs, Missouri for the first 18 years of my life. The day of my 18th birthday my mom, dad, brother, and I loaded up the cars and moved to Estes Park, Colorado. I now live in Denver with my two perfect corgis, Dunkyn and Dolan. Growing up in an ultraconservative, Christian environment, then moving on to get my bachelors in Youth Ministry, I struggled with being gay for most of my life. This included five years in reparative therapy (ex-gay therapy), meeting one to three times a week. At the age of twenty-six, I finally accepted who God make me to be and never looked back, and have never been happier. Each struggle, whether it be church, fearing damnation, heart shattering break-ups, and losing family to cancer and accidents, seems to make it’s way into everything I write, as well as a core of loving being alive. Life is hard, but man, is it ever wonderful! I’ve worked with children (ages 8-18) with emotional disabilities since 2000, first as a counselor in a residential treatment facility, and now as a special education teacher. During my sophomore year in high school, Ms. Hungerford introduced me to creative writing, and since that day, I’ve dreamed of being an author. Having Elizabeth North offering a publishing contract was one of the most life-changing days of my existence. I now dream of being a writer full-time. My boyfriend, Stephen, is hoping for that as well, as he wants to tag alone on a world tour. Big dreams. Big dreams. Though my writing seems polarizing to many readers, both positive and negative, regardless of which of my books you choose, I pray that in its pages you find both the struggle and immense joy of life. I am humbled and honored by each person that reads my books. Thank you so much for making my dreams come true!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your review. I agree about the scene at the gym where Kevin sees the woman working out & has a meltdown. It was performed perfectly. Kirt Graves did a beautiful job on the narration for this story.
