All I can say is Wow! This isn't your normal, fluffy, Cinderella romance. Aj's Burden is a darker read so if topics dealing with addiction isn't your thing or is a trigger this may not be for you. Ths is also book 4 but my first in the series and It stands alone perfectly.
Lost Soul: Aj's Burden is about two men struggling with drug addiction. Trystain has been clean for 5 years but still struggles and works hard to stay that way. AJ literally lands on Trystan's doorstep, inches from death. Trystain sees himself in AJ and wants to help, but is AJ ready for that?
I loved both of these men and felt like I was getting two stories in one how Trys's story slowly unravels as he helps AJ, and Aj tells his slowly as he is ready for help. I bit my nails, set on the edge of my seat, chomped at the bit, you name it as I turned each page for more. I was up late because I could not put this down.
The actual story is as compelling as the characters. I applaud Nicky James in her dealing with a touchy topic in such a straightforward, no holds barred yet touching way.
If you like serious subject matter, stories dealing with addiction, some mild loving and a very touching story I highly recommend this. I very seldom reread stories but this will go in my will read again list.
Nicky has always had two profound dreams in life; to fall back hundreds of years in time and live in a simpler world and to write novels. Since only one of those dreams was a possibility, she decided to make the other come alive on paper.
