Hometown hero. Hockey superstar. Perfect boyfriend?
When hockey star Caleb Carter returns to his hometown to recover from an injury, the only thing he’s interested in is a little R&R. He never expects to run into his onetime crush at a grade school fund-raiser. Seeing Aaron Price hits him hard, like being checked into the boards. The attraction is still there, even after all these years, and Caleb decides to make a play for the schoolteacher. You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take, right?
Aaron has been burned by love before and can’t imagine what a celebrity like Caleb could possibly see in a guy like him. Their differences are just too great. But as Aaron spends more time with Caleb, he begins to wonder if he might have what it takes to win the hockey player’s heart.

Tams gives this one 5 Stars...
Where does The Hockey Player's Heart rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
At the top for sure. I loved everything about this book. The writing, the narration, the slow burning love story rooted in decades of friendship.
What other book might you compare The Hockey Player's Heart to and why?
Wade Kelly's Jocks series, the writing styles and angst are similar.
What does Finn Sterling bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He gives the characters a voice, each their own definable voice, makes them more than just words on paper.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, actually.
Any additional comments?
This book was a breath of fresh air for me, the perfect mixture of love, life and angst. Sterling did such a great job bringing Caleb and Aaron to life and giving each of them their own distinct personalty in addition to the differing characteristics already in place from the written version.
Caleb is the hot, openly gay, confident hockey star while Aaron, who is successful in his own right, lacks some of the confidence due to a past boyfriend that didn't appreciate the beautiful, smart man he had. That is a huge part of the story when going back and forth from each man's POV. Aaron knows what he wants, he has since he was a teenager, but there's the constant niggle in the back of his mind.... am I good enough? I think my favorite aspect of this book, aside from the smoking hot chemistry, was the fact that the story was built on a foundation of friendship and love long before anything else. It really does give the story roots that just continue to grow throughout.
This is the first book that husbands, Jeff Adams and Will Knauss, co-wrote and I seriously hope it is not the last. I could feel each one of them in the story while listening. There was a push and pull between Caleb and Aaron that gave the story depth and kept me intrigued throughout, little bread crumbs dropped here and there that came together at the end and made me smile. I highly recommend this one, especially if you're a hopeless romantic, like myself.

Jeff Adams... Jeff's written stories since he was in middle school and became a gay romance writer in 2009 when his first short stories were published. Since then he's written several more shorts and novels, including some in the young adult genre, and he plans to keep writing as long as wonderful readers keeping picking up his books. Jeff lives in rural Northern California with his husband of twenty years, Will. Some of his favorite things include the musicals Rent and [title of show], the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey teams, and the reality TV competition "So You Think You Can Dance." If forced to pick his favorite book it would be a tie between Michael Chabon's "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" and David Levithan's "Every Day." Jeff is also the co-host of "Jeff & Will's Big Gay Fiction Podcast"
Will Knauss is a child of the seventies. When he wasn’t twirling around on the playground (like Lynda Carter from Wonder Woman), he wrote stories and performed plays for family members. Enthusiasm for his theatrical presentations varied. Before becoming an author, Will’s work experience ranged from hotel housekeeper to retail clerk. While living in New York, he even worked as a Wax Museum tour guide.
In 1995 he asked the man who would eventually become his husband on a date. No Netflix and chill for them, though, remember, this was the Dark Ages (aka the midnineties). They went to an actual theater to see the John Carpenter remake of Village of the Damned. They have been inseparable ever since.
Each week, Will shares his love of gay romance fiction with the listeners of the Big Gay Fiction Podcast, a show he co-created with his husband and fellow author, Jeff Adams.
Other random facts: He loves Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls and Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City. He can answer any question about Bette Davis (he’s that obsessed) and has an ever-growing collection of Wonder Woman ephemera (see Lynda Carter reference above).

Thanks for the good review, Tams. Sounds like a good couple for writing, and good narrator too. - Purple Reader,
