Killian Marks is a third-generation hitman. After hunting monsters for over twenty years, he lives under no illusions of happily ever afters and fairy tales. Until he meets a man who threatens to disarm him, by giving him hope for a future and showing him there’s more to life than just death.
For Nick, living in shadows is second nature. He’s all too familiar with the dark side of humanity and knows how delicate life can be. Each new day is a gift, even though it means doing it alone. But he’ll risk his survival for the one man who awakens something deep within and leaves him yearning for more.
Nick wants to solve the mystery behind the dark, brooding man, while Killian craves the life and light emanating from Nick. They soon discover they have more in common than either could have anticipated. With both their lives and hearts at stake, they must confront the ghost from Nick’s past intent on tying up a loose end. Only then will they truly find peace, and discover the shades of life in between.
Cat gives this one 5 Meows with a 1 Purr heat index (mostly off-page sex)...
Cover Love. I loved this cover. This is how I see Killian/Ian, Dark, ruggedly handsome and sex...not some pretty boy. I didn't quite get the title... Shadows maybe but never understood where Shades came in. The blurb hooked me and reeled me in. I love a good story about hitmen, bad boys, and this is also May/December another of my favorite tropes.
Killian is in his mid-forties and ready to get out of the business. He and his one partner have a plan. But he meets a sexy young waiter that awakens things in him he never felt or wanted before. When he is in Nicks presence he wants things he never dreamed he could have.
Nick is on the run and has lots of secrets. He is happy with his job and life now but knows it can change any moment. The big man that he met six months ago makes him want things he can no longer have. He has to be able to run at a moments notice.
All I can say about this story is WOW. Both men have one heck of a back story and we get it in slow dribbles just enough to make you keep reading for more. The actual storyline is also good. We also get some of Killian's jobs that shows us his skills, loyalty and moral code. There is lots of action and build up. The relationship is a slow burn and when we get it it is mostly off screen but I loved it. It is perfect to the storyline, darkness and man oh man is there lots of twists. I figured it would take me about 4 nights to read this since its long... but its one of those you can't put down, so I finished it in two! I highly recommend this if you like dark characters, suspense, slow burn, hitmen, a fabulous romance and a satisfying ending.
Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.
congrats..love all jaimes stories
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good review, Cat. Sounds good, and I like suspense, but usually not hitmen as the heros (personal principles). - Purple Reader, TheWrote [at] aol [dot] com
