On a tiny island in a ramshackle beach house, Meg, an heiress, is hiding from her family's dubious past. Her true love, Evan, died 30 years ago in a storm at sea, or so she thought. Did her father really have her lover killed, and if so, does everyone on the island know about it but Meg?
Alex is determined to win Meg over, and if that means befriending her son, Jon, he's game. Although, with his past history with women, he wonders why he even tries. After all, he's just a starving artist with little to offer her.
Now that Alex has warmed her heart again, Meg realizes she has friends who care and a life outside her garden. But in order to enjoy it, she must first figure out who is blackmailing her.

Secrets of Sandhill Island is a good mystery suspense. I loved all of the characters and the man following her actually gave me the creeps. I adored Alex and even Sam. I loved how Alex didn't give up and kept pressing Meg until she gave in. I usually don't bond with the female leads, but I loved Meg. She was a strong woman and knew what she wanted. I love gardening so I really connected with her.
The storyline is good. Actually, you have three stories. You have The building romance with Meg and Alex, Some conflict with Jon and the mystery surrounding Evan and who is after Meg and why. There are several twists and turns and the story is page turning. The sex is off the page which fits with the story.
I hate to say I didn't like the narration at all. the pacing was bad and it was choppy. You could tell someone was just reading the book and at times there were spaces with odd background sounds.

I do recommend this story if you like suspense, budding romance, strong women and twists and turns.
