Dirty Dozen Q&A with Deanna Wadsworth…
Thanks for hosting me Tams! I’m happy to answer all the Dirty Dozen’s questions. And I am looking forward to seeing all of you at Gay Rom Lit 2018!
Amy Wasp: What is your favorite trope to write and why?
Deanna: Currently it’s mermen, LOL I shouldn’t have to explain that one! It’s mermen after all!
Jeff Adams: What’s your favorite part of the writing process and why?
Deanna: Brainstorming for sure. Then those ah-ha moments where it all just clicks and starts to come together
TM Smith: What inspires you to write?
Deanna: Anything and everything around me. Conversations with friends, TV, whisky, yoga, movies, nature. Literally anything can inspire me!
AE Via: What career would you have if you never would've published your first book?
Deanna: Same one I still have, LOL I’m a hairstylist and nail tech, I heart what I do for a living.
Lynn Michaels: How do you balance being original and giving the readers what they expect/want?
Deanna: I probably don’t, but that’s what my awesome editor Desi Chapman at Dreamspinner does for me. She’s always making sure I don’t push readers away when I push the envelope.
JR Barten: What have you done as a writer that you are most proud of?
Deanna: All of it. I mean, I’ve published almost 25 books and novellas. I’m so proud of every word I’ve written, and I still can’t believe I get paid for it LOL. And I’ve been president of Rainbow Romance Writers, which has enabled me to reach out to so many other writers, and lead fun events at GRL too.
Morningstar Ashley: What genre and trope would you like you write that you haven't yet?
Deanna: I would love to write Sci-fi. I have one started, hopefully I finish it in the near future
Alexa Land: What are you working on now, and when can your readers expect it?
Deanna: My latest book The Boyfriend Cruise (think gay The Love Boat meets toe good seasons of Supernatural) and it’s coming out Dec 25th this year. It’s now available for preorder!
I am also working on a three book murder mystery gay romance with Hank Edwards—Murder Most Lovely, Lacetown Murder Mysteries: Case One will be coming early this spring. It has so much going on: murder, deceit, cat-nappings, kinky sex, fingers falling out of the sky and dropping in guacamole, cranky sheriff’s, bumbling drug dealers….You won’t wanna miss it!
My question for the Dirty Dozen: How do you come up with your character's names?
Deanna: I heard Marie Celsete say once to use one complicated name and one simple name and I loved that tidbit. So I kinda just pick one at random and play around with the other. Sometimes I change them mid-way, other times it’s a sequel character and I have no choice.
K-Lee Klein: Do you usually have only one project on the go or do you multitask between stories?
Deanna: Multi tasker! That’s why I’ll have three novels come out in two months, than zip for a year lol
Jessie Gin: What do you think makes a good story?
Deanna: Reality. Even if it’s fantasy, I need real life character motivation. Why are they in love? Is it realistic that they make this mistake/choice or is it contrived? Did they just crawl through the duct work? Um, no, unless you’re a ghost ninja, you can’t do that. LOL
Hmmmm…. Now I wanna write about ghost ninjas
Wade Kelly: What is your suggestion or piece of advice to new and upcoming authors?
Deanna: Join a writing group like Rainbow Romance Writers. It’s a great place to find trusted industry folks who have been where you are and are willing to help. They will help you navigate the publishing world and also help you from being scammed. Also, read the genre. See what’s out there, what’s selling and what’s hot
Deanna Wadsworth might be a bestselling erotica author, but she leads a pretty vanilla life in Ohio with her wonderful husband, a clown fish, and an adorable cocker spaniel. She has been spinning tales and penning stories since childhood, and her first erotic novella was published in 2010. She has served multiple board positions for different RWA chapters, including President of the Rainbow Romance Writers in 2017. When she isn’t writing books or brainstorming with friends, you can find her making people gorgeous in a beauty salon. An avid reader, she also loves gardening, cooking, music, and dancing. Often she can be seen hanging out on the sandbar in the muddy Maumee River or chilling with her hubby and a cocktail in their basement bar. In between all that fun, Deanna cherishes the quiet times when she can let her wildly active imagination have the full run of her mind. Her fascination with people and the interworkings of their relationships have always inspired her to write romance with spice and love without boundaries.

A Pride of the Caribbean Getaway
The Pride of the Caribbean is a cruise ship unlike any other. Paranormals working on board the enchanted ship hide in plain sight, under the benevolent protection of a demigod captain and his fairy husband.
And this is a shipboard romance unlike any other.
Josh Gilbert’s well-meaning family booked a gay-friendly cruise for Christmas in order to find Josh a boyfriend. Hoping to escape the constant parade of bachelors—and the collapsible fishing rod dangling mistletoe his mom keeps in her purse—Josh takes solace in a growing friendship with the ship’s photographer, Nathan. Though Josh is falling for Nathan, he worries it will never be more than a shipboard fling.
Nathan recently became aware of his incubus heritage and has finally learned how to control his demon side. But Josh has awakened more than just the demon’s need for orgasms—Josh has awakened Nathan’s heart. What’s developing between them is the real thing, but can Josh ever accept Nathan’s promiscuous past… and love a sex demon?
Amid lush tropical settings, family hilarity, holiday costume parties, sexy snorkeling adventures, gingerbread martinis, and mythical creatures, will Josh get his Christmas wish and finally find the true love he’s wanted for so long?
