Title: Always Been You
Series: Cedar Lake Series #1
Author: Sadie Allen
Genre: Romantic Suspense/Second Chance Romance
Emma Taylor thought she left Cedar Lake behind and the boy who broke her heart along with it but…
Fate had other ideas.
Emma:
Tragedy has brought me back to this small Texas town where everything and nothing has changed. The nothing being I still find myself attracted to the boy, now man, who ruined me all those years ago.
I shouldn’t want him. I know what it’s like to be burned by him, but… I can’t deny the pull of Braz Huntswell, especially now that I’m his daughter’s teacher.
—
Brazos Huntswell’s life didn’t turn out how he planned in high school. He was supposed to leave Cedar Lake and chase his college baseball dreams before coming home to take over his family’s cattle ranch.
Two pink lines on a piece of plastic was the fly ball out of nowhere.
Braz:
Being a single dad is tough. Being a single dad to a hormonal teenage daughter should qualify me for sainthood. Not only that, I’m trying to keep my family’s legacy alive.
I gave up on love after my ex-wife left me to shoulder everything on my own. But that all changed when I hear her voice on the other end of the phone… The one who got away, well, the one I pushed away—Emma Taylor, my Red.
—
Cedar Lake isn’t the town they once knew, and people are turning up dead. Someone doesn’t want Braz and Emma together, and they’d do anything to keep them apart… permanently.
Cat gives this 4 Meows with a 2 Purr heat index...
My feelings on this changed a lot as the story went on. It begins with two seniors in high school about to graduate and the girl thinking she can sway her crush of forever from his girlfriend of forever. (how many of us have thought the same?) Then she is crushed when he tells her he is marrying his girlfriend, he got her pregnant and is doing the right thing by her. (gotta give him a little credit for that). She runs to Vegas to her aunts and avoids everyone in the town until push ahead for 16 years, her mother dies and her dad is drinking himself away so she moves back, gets a job in the school and winds up her ex crushes daughter's teacher. A teen that is acting out.
Braz is losing his mind over how Sky is acting and can't figure out the sudden changes, plus he worries about her slipping away with all the major changes in town with more crime and now they have no police force working his brother the Sheriff to death. Then he finds a dead man in his field. One he would have loved to have killed many years ago but didn't.
But I liked the sub-characters especially Braz's mom and Em's dad, Bridgette and Brandt as well and I cannot wait for the next story. So all in all this is very good suspense and pretty lifelike since romance isn't all perfect.
There begins to be a lot of action and more on the crime making this a bit of mystery suspense which I liked. I think just on the romance itself I may have given it a three and here is why. Braz publicly humiliated Emma in high school then the day he shows up n her office about his daughter when that should have been the main motive he was like a dog in heat and orders her to go out with him not asks. Emma is like no that melts like ice cream in July right away and does. It seems they are all over each other right away.. If this part of the story had been more slow burn as the two worked there way back helping Sky it would have been a five.

Sadie Allen is the author of three novels and has several more trapped inside her head. Her dreams of becoming an author started in fourth grade when she wrote a story about a disastrous Thanksgiving where a cat jumped inside the turkey.
She currently lives in Texas with her husband and three small children but is still hopeful her Hogwarts acceptance letter will be in the mail but will settle for Camp Half-Blood. When she's not pretending to write, she's chasing children around the house or store or ballfield, or helping her husband do something on the farm.
