Bacchanal is a depression-era carnival that is comprised of various characters with unique abilities that promise an escape. What you might miss in the fine print of the event poster is that there's an evil, demonic force at the root of this circus intent on taking your soul... enter at your own peril.

I dove into this book anxiously excited as I've been wanting to read it for a while. The world that the Author created was vivid and imaginative, the characters both endearing and infuriating at times, the storyline a bit different and unique and yet, sometimes confusing. So, yes, I'm torn on this one. There were aspects of the book I absolutely loved and Eliza is a strong, determined character. But there were also times I was confused by some wording and events, jumps in the story without cohesion, and the abrupt ending. Overall, I liked it and thought it was an okay read.

The story, characters and world are somewhat reminiscent of The Night Circus, which was one of my favorite books. If you enjoyed that book, wonderful world building and a story that is a bit different and unique, you'll probably enjoy Bacchanal.
